If you are planning to hunt in a tree, take some practice shots from the tree. If you can get a 3d target that helps too to practice broadside and quartering away shots. Good luck. Hoping to get my first this season too.

Congratz on the journey! Been here almost from day one watching and rooting for you. Just remember in the end don't worry about getting a deer. Enjoy the process, enjoy Gods creation, enjoy the time without being on electronics. One week from opening day in my neck of the woods. What I find the most fun is when I get to take my sisters kids out hunting, or sitting with my Dad (66 years old). Take some time to enjoy the little things in the woods with those you love or those who you feel will enjoy the time together. Pack a good book to keep yourself occupied when you find ourself not wanting to sit still. Just take a second to say thank you in this fast moving world. Sight that react at 20/60 on a big bail target and it will really dial in your 30/40/50. You have done AWESOME for a quick sight in at 20/30😮!!!!

Happy for your first hunt. Keep us in the loop. Two tips: 1) on the long hold, you don’t need your finger over the trigger, just above. Easier to hold and won’t have an unwanted release. 2) train longer than your max effective range. I like to shoot at 60-80. Makes 30-40 seem like a chip shot.

Don’t take shot over 40 yards in my opinion it’s reckless because you don’t see little branches that can deflect your arrow at that distance and make a good shot into a wounded shot. Just personal preference from my personal experience. You can be dead on at 100 yards but doesn’t mean you can see stuff in your way. Also the further out less chance of a pass through. Started my season on August 17. One thing I like to do is first thing in the morning when it's just light enough to see your target, go straight outside no stretching or warmups. Go to a spot range it or have it marked from the day before and shoot completely cold.

My hunting season started August 31 for elk and deer archery

Practice letting down slow and quiet too. Stopping halfway then continuing both ways drawing and letting down.

Started my journey into traditional archery with a longbow this year. I’ve killed many deer but this will be my first year with a simple longbow

Deer season in Ohio starts September 28th

Just to let you know, the weight difference between a lighted nock and non is approx 8" at 50 yards for reference for me pulling 70 # so adjust when shooting those lighter arrows..... good luck

Youth season started yesterday here in Kansas. Kiddo missed one at 38 yards. Wrong pin and shot right over it! Deer fever is real. Practice shootin while shaking thats all I can say! Good luck man!

👍 drawing and holding is a great exercise for several reasons. Maybe not even firing. Follow up videos on what you learned about using the different gear you took with you. Maybe cleaning the deer etc. Gotta tell the story of the shot etc. Show us what flashlights,knives, etc you took. Remember, take a deep breath and let the adrenaline burn off if you have the time. Add a few seconds to your shot cycle to steady up on the spot you need to hit.👍👍👍👀

Not sure how long your season will be this year, my suggestion is to find a cool morning before season starts and practice then. Never know how you'll shoot when you're cold and shivering if you don't practice before season as well. I always see people practicing when the weather is nice,but the weather isn't always going to be good while hunting. Just my humble and worthless thoughts.

Three years ago, I started the same journey. I was a long time, Deer Hunter with firearms and now I’m an archery Hunter. I blame it on my wife as she wanted a bow and I told her I knew nothing about them, but after getting her fit and set up, I had to get one myself and the addiction is real. After watching this video, I went back and watched all your others. Your enthusiasm and excitement is so awesome. I wish you the best of luck on your very first time but don’t get discouraged as I know many archery hunters that didnt get their first deer until about their third year. I’ve been very fortunate and I’ve taken two with my Bow so far. This year will be my third season and I’m counting the days. I can’t wait till your next video. Keep shooting.

Try and have your arrow already knocked and bow hung so you jus gotta grab it. Also try and have certain/ geographical features so you KNOW where your 20, 30 etc. Yards are at so you don't have to range.. less movement is BEST!!! LOOKIN GOOD THO BROTHA!

Hell yeah man, it’s always good to practice, whether you’re in season or not. Since you just got your hunting safety, it would be worth your time to also get some basic first aid training (if you don’t already have it) and carry a kit with you. Even if you plan to hunt in a large group, it’s better to have more trained folks than not if there’s an incident.
