Great video. Kill the music.
The Lefel company that made the turbine is still in business and my Company had three pumps made by them .
Hangar. Not "Hanger".
Interesting, and sad too. I graduated from Ferris State (a few miles south) in the 1970s and remember people talking about it.
Near Reed City.
How much $ is scrap aluminum going for these days?
Growing up by an airport and working on aircraft most of my working years, I find abandoned airports to be depressing.
Very interesting video, also of note the wind sock looked fairly new, I wonder why?
Very interesting thx. So weird to see such a mixed use airport building. Do you know who the architect was? Love the steel, aluminum, ribbed glass and color panels-so 60’s. Wouldn’t it be nice if someone would just take a weed wacker to it and re-paint and light it up? It would look really cool. Cheers.
No ticket counters or baggage drop off because the airport was essentially a private airport for Miller Industries. The airport was used to fly Miller Industry's customers to visit the company. The passenger terminal includes a 1,200-person auditorium to host company and social events. Pretty sure Miller's wife was not part of the discussion, more likely a strategic dialog in a corporate boardroom.
Why do so many posters ruin their videos with obtrusive music? Had to mute...
Dogman country
The video is great, but the music is like nails on a chalkboard. Reduce your background music volume by 1/3. Your voice over should never compete with the music to be heard.. Let it be "Background" music and not the feature.
This kind of remind me of Mirabel Airport, Québec, Canada. 🐾 _Montréal 🇨🇦_
the show expedition x used this place as a "werewolf hotel" saying this is where werewolfs were congregating and living. they went to explore in the night and did some really bad fake acting saying they found evidence of werewolfs and recorded sounds and trying to track some down... LMFAOOOO lame show!
Very Annoying music so much so I just quickly skipped through the vid. I Wont be Subscribing.
Can't watch this with the annoying music.
I restored a 1939-40 former military hangar in Everett WA about 20 years ago and ran it for 10 years. But there I had airline storage contracts and customers to store their planes. I would love to restore this place but I no longer have that kind of money or energy. There is nothing there that would support it.
That heck of a lot of scrap Aluminum!
Looks like my school when i was a kid 60 years ago
Second building was used to hanger GA aircraft. I landed a couple of times at RCT during the late 90's early 2000's. Take my bicycle alone and pedaled into town.
I remember Miller Field well, my grandparents lived in Reed City. Great place to go for the summers and cold winters. Snow was very deep, of course I was only 6 years old and no more then 4 feet tall. Sad to see the decline of Reed City. Soda fountain at Bonzal Drug store, watched Viva Las Vegas at the movie theater, going down to the Dairy Queen for a ten cent cone and jumping on the trampoline's. Wish I was a Elon Musk I would help bring the city back. I do stop once, twice a year and have lunch at the Pere Marquette. Very good food and great asset for the city. Thanks for the video.
There were no bathroom stalls because the stalls were removed by vandals.
Currently the airport code is MI31 with a 4500 foot paved asphalt runway. It is still operational, but it’s listed as a private airport with no services and no instrument approach procedures. There are no operable runway lights, so this would be the only airport if you choose to fly in there
As always when exploring places, some brainless idiots have been before you, scribbling trash on walls.
I am absolutely not subscribing or watching the rest of this video or any others because of the background music, just make a good video and leave out the gay music! What’s with content creators adding music?
No need to bring the gays into this. We definitely wouldn’t use this music. 😂
,1 mile
The CIA used this background music for sleep deprivation torture.
Love the building, but FYI, stage left is the left side as seen by the director (and audience) and is the right side from the pov of the performers.
Renovate maybe find someone with a liquor license and turn it into a HUGE live music venue. Couple hundred grand - handicap upgrades and you have a new place for Concerts.
Just say no to the background music
Kill the background music. Sucks. Watch on mute with CC
You need to buy this thing. Find out who owns it. Many investors are out there if location, market is right.
I like this video and the one about the terminal as well. I don’t think this building is from the 1970s though I’d say the terminal is probably early 1950s and this separate building may be later in a decade or around 1960. It looks as if it may have been used as a office into the 1970s
Some people overproduce their videos, concentrating more on technical aspects than relevant content. This is one of those videos. This music was obnoxious, didn't fit well, too loud, etc. Btw, it's not called a "flight tower." There's no such name. It's called a CONTROL TOWER. There's so much information that is available online and in other, better, more informative videos. Wasted opportunity here.
I wonder if the auditorium had an inner shell. With all those hard surfaces and glass, the acoustics would have been terrible. And the glass would mean no controlled theater lighting during the day - or any motion picture projection for that matter.
Apparently, when he built this, the town had a population of only about 2,000. How on Earth he thought an airport this large/expensive would work in a town this small is beyond me. But, he had vision and guts/confidence... that is for certain.
Interesting find, would love to see it back in its prime. Too bad about the music: unnecessary and obnoxious.
Wsp twin!
Someone at one time had a dream and plenty of cash to throw at that dream. Any idea of the length of the runway or even the location?
Was about 4000'.
PLEASE DELETE THE UNNEEDED and silly background "music."
If that was a Hanger attached to the lounge and main terminal, not very big airplanes could fit in there, if they could get in... I didn't see any hanger doors. BTW- going up the spiral stairs is where the "actual" control tower room was. hence the slanted windows. The Beacon would have been outside on top of that room, someone just threw it in that room. One more thing, that's really irritating music.... major ear sore.
*The awful 'music' & garrulous narration are distracting. Thankful for mute.*
So you walk to the front door and can see through the clear glass, the ladies in the shitter ??? Different times is right 👍 lol 😂😆
Well I love the music, and I had to look it up so I can listen to more of it. It hits a little bit like reggae, and has a good feel. Thanks for sharing. As for the building, it has a bit of a “yeah, you could build it, but should you?” afterthought quality. Then again, I imagine it wasn’t too expensive to build in the first place.
Very interesting! The background music adds nothing, it's actually annoying. Consider eliminating it in future videos.
The background music is annoying.
Even when this building was built the men’s room and ladies room had stalls. You can see evidence of the mounting holes in the tile between the toilets.
Agreed. It is unlikely that the toilets were exposed since they can be seen from the door and nobody would use them if they were exposed when the door was opened.
at a guess, maybe the stalls were made of aluminium which got 'recycled' because it was 'nickable' !
I was looking for the holes in the tile but didn't see them. Like others they just had to have them. Not so much the urinals but everywhere else.
As a kid in the early 1960's, our family would drive past this airport, coming from up north, on our way to Grandpa and Grandma's for Thanksgiving and other times. My moms folks lived 5 mile sw of town. My mom was a cheer leader in HS for the Reed City coyotes, in the 1940's
Did you stop to use the bathroom with no stalls
All I picture is Jonathan Winters and Mickey Rooney buzzing the Control Tower! If you know, you know 😏
Buddy Hacket
@@nicknordmann5171 My bad, it's been awhile😔
Be careful. You wouldn’t want to make him mad, mad, mad, mad, mad..
