The 2nd lens (mentioned at 4:50) that was tested was the Nikon 70-180. That portion got cut due to an editing error...So I found the 70-180 quite okay, but the focal range didn't cover enough for me beyond what the 24-120 already does- Thanks for joining us & you have my invitation to subscribe to the channel!

I collect mechanical pencils from all time periods. We have a supply house near me, so I have Derwent drawing plus colored and pastels. Garage sales are my friends. Even brought back a brief case full of oils and pencils etc. inexpensive from Canada. A good thing we were pulling a trailer with the motorcycle. Pastels are great for coloring wood burnings. I use Winsor & Newton "Liquine" to blend it in on the wood.
@robertsaunders5740 I had to stop doing yard sales years ago, too addictive. Thanks for the comment!
Cool Hat. Looking forward to new digs for the show.
@rdphoto2 Thanks!
I had a Sirui Ballhead once and hated it. It was constantly freezing up and it was hard to use. I was not impressed. I do have a Sirui AM223 Mini Desktop Tripod that I use when Live Stream. I agree about the Z50ii. I have the Z50. No need to update. Waiting on the D500 replacement.
@rdphoto2 Agreed! Nikon at least has something shiny and new to sell at Christmas this year. Zero interest here with me as well.
I am in the right classroom. I enjoy your videos and your style. Keep doing what you do.
@rdphoto2 Thanks! Having a channel yourself you know coming up with the ideas for a weekly show ain't always easy...
I purchased a similar cart from Bass Pro for about the same price range. It’s a great tool to have when you have more gear than your back can carry. I use it for my Astro gear when i can’t drive to the location I want.
@Speed-Cecil We've been leaving this cart in the back of our vehicle. So it's earned a spot where space is at a premium. Thanks for the comment!
I agree that the 600 is a bit sharper than the 400 w/TC, however I would most likely pick the 400 w/TC as it provides a great degree of flexibility and range. Great pics!!
I agree that the 600 is a bit sharper than the 400 w/TC, however I would most likely pick the 400 w/TC as it provides a great degree of flexibility and range. Great pics!!
@Quinn4124 Yep, the 400 is my pick also, but after this latest field test I've moved the TC over to the 100-400 to try it there for a while. Thanks for the comment!
Those "articulating" screens, '80s camcorder's screens, are just plain terrible... Z6III is ruined by that.
@lukakoprivica Correct! I have recently sold the Zf, in large part due to the screen setup. Thanks for the comment.
For other art program recommendations you can try Infinity Painter or Krita
I would recommend you look into Leofoto tripod legs. They are better IMO than Really Right Stuff and Gitzo and much more affordable. WAY better than Sirui and I am a fan of Sirui's products and have owned tripods and heads and many other accessories from them. Sirui is pronounced (SU-Ray) btw ( I was personally scolded for MY mispronunciation) so I figured that I would pass that on. The reason I comment is because I have been through ALL the best tripod and head companies out there and the best that I have seen so far are Leofoto. They make a systematic leveling base to go between tripod and ANY head for seamless leveling even if you are shooting from uneven ground. There tripods are bombproof just like RRS or Gitzo. If you take my comment seriously and try one, I am confident that you will never go back. I sold all other tripods and now have 4 Leofoto tripods of different sizes all with the leveling bases (LB-75 or LB-75S) and different head some ball heads some fluid heads. I hope that you will hear me out and thank me later.
Core club content!
thanks!
My experience - I had a Suriu Ballhead once. it kept freezing up when you try to loosen the adjustments, I don’t know why, but I ended up getting rid of it. The Leofoto products are a solid piece of kit. I have just about the same Leofoto stuff that you have. I am really interested in your complete Manfroto Fluid Head set up. I would love to see a video segment just on that you using it in the field and in the studio I had 500ah but I feel like it was too lightweight for my Z8 with the 180-600 so I would be interested and your set up. So I got rid of it. Also still looking for a fluid head for video work.
@rdphoto2 My experience with Sirui only spans a few months, so time will tell. We'll see how it holds up... As for fluid heads, had the Manfrotto 500 and got rid of it. The 502 with Kirk plate installed is what was on the show. Correct counterbalance weight for Z9 with 600 lens. I recently re-shopped all the options for fluid heads and came up with no new possibles to try out. Thanks for the comment!
Hello! Leofoto head on a Gitzo! Blasphemy!!! 😮 😝 Well, glad You are liking the LH 40. It’s a good head. If You step up one model, You would be even better served, especially with heavier equipment. Check out some of Leofoto geared heads, as they offer great value and serviceability. You will be hard to find a better Warranty and Customer Service, than Leofoto. I used Sirui in the past, and whilst their heads are good, I grew to dislike some of their leg offerings. Of course, YOU, have to go with what works for You. But I would encourage You to check out one of the newer Leofoto tripods, with the waterproof leg locks, especially for your region and climate. Alright, I am done now with my ‘promotions.’ 😊 Always enjoy your Video clips. Stay safe and Happy Shooting!
the white nibs give you a better experience when writing/drawing feeling more like paper on the screen, but each one wears out in about a month and a half in my case, but if you're already used to the black ones it's better to stick with them and if you want a better pen you can use any X3pro pen and maybe the X3pro slim pen will better suit your needs and I think it fits in the back like the original. Also, all X3 pro pens have certain features (tilt, eraser, or the second button, roller) that will not be available on the tablet
@arkiostu Thanks for the comment & for the info!

Really -- more and more got the feeling how little this all actually matters ! Such "first world problem" -- really just a no issue !
@andretim75 Not a 'problem' really for me since I don't mind buying & having things.
I very patiently buy used. Very seldom get stuck with something that I can't use or get my investment back.
@timothykieper Yep. Used is a VERY competitive market though... I've had a couple good deals evaporate while I went to fetch the credit card to put in order. Thanks for the comment!
I have this lens and it is an awesome lens. My landscape kit, should I carry it all, is the 14-30, 24-70 f/4, and 70-200 on a Z7 II. Depending on what I think I may be photographing (no video) I will carry the 24-70 and the macro lens. If not at a location that I am not anticipating landscape, I will carry just one lens...this macro. Going back many years, Ive tried other lenses like a 50 macro, but invariably I go back to the 100 or 105 macro. Carrying all four lenses is too much for walking/hiking. The 70-200 is great handheld and can generally replace the macro. So I guess what I am saying, it is generally not used when doing all landscape purposes, and is somewhat niche, but I simply cannot do without the lens at times. While a bit big, it is light, but saves 2 lbs. and a lot of bulk if I can get away without using the 70-200. Of course the wisest thing to do is just one lens...the 24-120. Still, for a good portion of my landscape photos, the 70-200 is great.
@kerrygrim7934 Wish I'd discovered this lens sooner... I also have the 14-30. Great output. Thanks for the comment!
@@folkartandcamera Two other things I like about the lens...it is often just the right focal length and the 2.8 aperture is excellent for background blur.
The best way to see if you like the gear is to rent. I always rent, use it, then I make my decision.
@ele4853 Thanks for the comment! Rentals can work, but also can be kinda pricey too-
Is the DX lens considered the top of the line? I only have the D70s DSLR. from a thrift store. Lenses from my FE auto body still fits.
@robertsaunders5740 Dx lenses refers to sizing and are made specifically for the APSC bodies, such as Z30 and Z50. Generally Nikon taught buyers that their 'S' line lenses were top of the line, but last 1-2 years they've released some really good lenses that are not 'S'. Just mentioned DX in passing as I don't do DX/APSC anymore. thanks for the comment!
anyone figure out how to capture compass headings on pics and review them..
The top of my Christmas wishlist from Nikon would be a Z-mount version of the 180-400 f/4 with built-in 1.4TC. That would greatly simplify any decision regarding which wildlife-specific lens I should buy!
@Quinn4124 Noted! For a lot of people, Nikon hit a true home run with the 180-600, but it's simply too weighty for many of us. Thanks for the comment!
24-120 is a fantastic lens! 😎👍
@Speed-Cecil Yep. It's the 1st lens I'd tell someone to buy when entering the Nikon Z universe. Thanks for the comment!
How the 600 + 1.4 compares to the 400 + 2.0??
@Skye_the_toller I comprehensively tested the Z 2.0 TC (in the field / owning it for several months) on the 600 6.3, 400 4.5, and 100-400. Sold the 2.0 TC after that as I wasn't really satisfied with it enough to use on any of these lenses. I suppose if I had to say which lens the the 2.0 did best on, probably the 400 4.5(?) We prefer the output from the 1.4 TC. Thanks for the comment!
400 4.5 / 500 pf 5.6 / 600 6.3 which one you recommend for wildlife and small birds?
@blueandwhiteeighttwo I prefer 400 4.5 & for extra reach use a 1.4 TC. Thanks for the comment!
@@folkartandcamera thanks
Great, concise update. What viewfinder eyecup are you using? Is it rotating for left-eye dominant folks like me? Thanks!
@swebsurf Hoodman brand. It rotates whichever direction needed. Thanks!
Thank you for the update. Could you please let me know what the make / model of the bottom plate your wife is using on her Z9. I like the idea of being able to attach the Peak anchor's there. Thank you!
@scubabrit8865 it's Really Right Stuff(RRS). We like Kirk plates (KES) a lot also. Thanks!
@@folkartandcamera Thank you! 👍
I’m another fan of not buying tripods with center columns. I’ve bought them with the column but never use them. I make sure the height of the tripod is eye level without ball head and camera.
@Speed-Cecil Now and again after I've gotten the leg heights set, the column comes in handy for just getting another couple inches height if it's needed. It's also handy if you want to hook on a weighted sack. Thanks for the comment!
You need to buy the right height tripod for your eye WITHOUT a center column. They are a point of weakness and instability. Get a tripod from a company like leofoto who have plenty of choices for high angle shooting or if you want to spend more for NO reason get a Really Right Stuff. Just my opinion don't ask me how I know this to be true. Leofoto LMP-324CL. This tripod is a dream come true for me. I urge you to take a look at these tripods. So much better. I used to shoot on a top of the line Sirui. Try one and tell me that I am wrong.
Hello! Congrats and appreciate the purchase of the Leofoto monopod. I have to say, I will be surprised if it does not work out for You. Of course only You can judge that for yourself. B&H of course will take care of You, but buying direct from Leofoto affords One a generous return policy, as well as Stellar Customer Support. Looking forward to the footage from the ReoLink. The Hummers in my area are pretty much migrated on. I will miss them! Always enjoy your footage, but the two clips of ‘Rocky,’ were great! Loved it! Enjoyed the birds as well. Take care and looking forward to your feedback on the Monopod. A ,or of people seem to ‘brush off’ the use of a monopod, but it can be very versatile, and you touched on a few things here. I have used one at chest height for added stability, and of course, if contact with the ground as intended, can work very well, especially with longer lenses, in lees light conditions. Stay safe!
@georgdavall9449 Thanks for the comment! So far the setup on the live cam not as straightforward as we thought it'd be. More to follow, eventually.
@@folkartandcamera You’re Welcome! Please keep in mind your Monopod now carries a ‘Lifetime Warranty!’ And there is a 20% off sale going on now, through Leofoto USA, on all products! Take care
I still use a older (maybe 25 year old) Manfrotto Monopod (AL). I keep it in my truck with me also since I mostly just use it when I am out in the field and not necessarily at home. That LeoFoto one looks nice. LeoFoto makes some great Tripods and I am very happy with my LS-Ranger series that I use.
@rdphoto2 Thanks for the comment! It'll do until something better comes along, being very lightweight is a great advantage.
Hey Ron, is that the aluminum model with the leg locks that have that big side mounted twist knob? That was my first monopod, and I still have it. Good idea for keeping it in your truck, as it is nearly indestructible. I’ve used it as self defense once out in the wilds, against a predator! Appreciate the comments and support of Leofoto. 👍 Take care and stay safe!
I have both lenses, I am KEEPING both :D
thanks!
Matt Shannon just did a tour across the pond from you with the 400 4.5 and 1,4 tele. Still a lighter setup than the 180-600. ruclips.net/video/60UAVwlB8Mg/видео.htmlsi=3TA72F5Zeouuo_YH
How about a deeper discussion on why you would bring both the 100-400mm zoom and the 400mm f/4.5? The difference in speed is minimal between the two, seems like unnecessary overlap in lenses.
@Quinn4124 Thanks for the comment! Last winter when we bought the 600 6.3 for the wife, the 400 4.5 was kicked out of her kit into mine. I already had the 100-400.
Good master thank you 👍🙏
Thanks!
Thanks for showing your RV! If you do decide to sell her please let me know! Have a 1973 Brave that I may eventually graduate from in a few years so I can do longer trips to National Parks.
Great location! Is this shot with your GoProHero12 ?
Yes, GoPro Hero 12. Thanks for the comment!
@@folkartandcamera I think this is my new favorite camera, might have to get one some day☺
I have a Synology NAS. It was a great addition to my storage problems.
@rdphoto2 Here also! Already solving a lot of problems. Thanks for the comment!
It's Sunday!
Both are right on lens selection. As you both have different shooting needs. On your NAS I take it she went with raid 0 witch has no redundancy.
@terrillcockeram8472 not sure on the Synology setup...it's the wife's swim lane. Thanks for the comment!
Steller jays are so beautiful - love this setup!
@MyaYard It's an easy setup, but requires good light. Thanks!
The fully-articulated monitor has at least two advantages over the Z8 monitor: It folds inward against the camera back for screen protection and its more flexible for those of us who primarily shoot in portrait mode, high and low angle.
@garythebadger First off, thanks for the comment! Second, incorrect, no advantages! The Z8 will do flip high and low angle, better than Zf because it is aligned with the viewfinder AND can hinge outward. (I own both and have tried it.) Also, I used to think the folding-in aspect was an 'advantage', but now I know it is inconsequential. The Zf is a lower tier camera in every aspect. I do still like it though. You have my invitation to subscribe to the channel, however, since your comment passes the threshold for reasonable discussion.
really cool
Good Evening! Congrats on the Leofoto, and appreciate your support. You can buy direct from Leofoto USA, and we offer discounts quite frequently. The MT-02 is a good unit, but You might look into one of the beefier table top models, as they will support heavier rigs, and be more stable out in the wilds. I had a feeling You would part with the 24-200. I suspect You will be looking into one of the newer mega zooms that have been released recently? Ron Durant is a good photographer and a stand up guy. I am Subscribed to his Channel also. I like to see fellow Photographers support each other. 😊 Loved the footage at the end. You will have to do a follow up on how the little Leofoto performs for you! Happy Shooting!
@georgedavall9449 it was kinda impulsive parting with the 24-200, already miss it a little.
I would use the 24-120 f4 >> Super Sharp
Admitting your addiction to Tripods is the first step to recovery. 😊. Thanks for the shout out.
That is funny Ron! I like to see fellow Photographers shout out and support each other!
@rdphoto2 seems easier to buy a tripod now and again than suffer thru a multi-step recovery...
It's only Tuesday!
@donrogan2812 Yep! It's easy for a mostly retired guy to loose track of the calendar. Thanks for the comment!
What in the hell did i just watch? Title is completely misleading, you're reading from a piece of paper and can't even memorize a simple X100 VI, 5 minutes talk about 6 vs VI ... don't have anything in hand to showcase for it and mentions ZF but shows pics from different thing altogether... The problem is that technology evolved but camera world stuck 10years behind and the people who owns them 20years behind that. I had X100VI and returned it, the problem is not bashing X100VI but the fact that this video was one of the non-content things that i've watched in YT history...
How have you liked it (or not liked it) since posting this?
@rebecaj6045 It was returned. Mentioned reasons in a later video. Using a GoPro 12 now in place of it. Thanks!
I went with the DJI Action cameras. I have two of them. They do get hot 4k/30 but never have them shut down. I have filmed for over almost an hour at a time over at my other channel. www.RUclips.com/@windrocktv.
@rdphoto2 I bought this one on their last big sale and figure an under $300 camera is going to have some limitations. Not sure how people in hotter climates contend with it? Overall pleased enough, but may take another look at the DJIs... Thanks for the comment!
