This is a visual representation of Luke Balstad’s fun, welcoming, bright presence that continues to live so vividly and prevalently in my mind. I made this video last year but wanted to make it public for anyone else who just wants to hear Luke’s laugh. 🧡 Harvard article that talks about Luke: www.thecrimson.com/article/2022/12/1/luke-balstad-obit/ and here are some memories I shared about him ...

Madooonna che bello 😍😍😍
You all are pretty pretty!
well, as a Chinese who are going to study at UCC in less than 3 months, really glad to see that in Ireland and in your video people are celebrating our Chinese New Year!
My flatmate brought us everything to celebrate! He was also from China! :) I hope you have an awesome time at UCC-please let me know if you have any questions for me!!
Hi! Is there designated parking available?
Hey! There’s not :( super easy to live downtown without a car though! None of my intern friends brought their cars; we just used the public transit! :)
Where is that shoe organizer from in the closet? I like it!
Thanks! It saved lots of space! I think I found mine at a store called At Home, but here’s one on Amazon that looks similar: www.amazon.com/Whitmor-Over-Door-Shoe-Shelves/dp/B00HGMAL36/ref=mp_s_a_1_18?crid=OFX3QXSQSSIC&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.6zGjm0CCqYUyWY1ZWeed-LIf6Uyi4d3MZAipQypkQBuWjb49zgrXpCjTwa_VkYid1L_7LKFJIovZpc68g6JHyHgQvZXyAwPzIZfCQ44P8WEHcTL-olS7DW5YMp-8N1Ci2FPd2kK-PyJmRLBIQF8PBrWHaSCvdazpNLjrd-Nssf5tyD-8GsNGaOvGGJ-D46Ekxyzguc_q9El0bwXz5GlA8g.CspuavK9V2MPnaO3kBDna62Xc66T-b-hrL72ySaZTCw&dib_tag=se&keywords=closet+door+shoe+organizer+hanging&qid=1712325196&sprefix=shoe+organizer+for+closet+han%2Caps%2C219&sr=8-18

What a wonderful vlog
i'm ur biggest fan
hi! I am looking for summer housing for an internship I have this summer. is there any way we can get in contact to talk about it more? :)
Hi! Of course! Here's my email :) erin.olaughlin@hotmail.com
Which rooms did u say were bigger
A and D!
Thanks for the video, it's was very informative.. can you tell me how much is the rent for such a place? I'm excited to go to UCC, but I'm afraid of the cost of living, and I have to live on a budget.
Of course! I'm glad it was helpful. Here's the link to where I lived, which also shows costs: scholarlee.ie/Magazine-road.html I think there are cheaper places to live in Cork. I chose Scholarlee because I only wanted a 4 month lease. I'd also recommend looking into subleasing from people to find cheaper options!
@@ErinOLaughlin_ Thanks
So wholesome and sweet. I love it
Hey I’m interning in Chicago this summer! When did you sign and how much do you pay a month, if you don’t mind me asking
Hi!! I think I signed in late December/early January. I’d recommend calling them when you fill out your application to ensure they put your application at the top of the list. And I think it was 379 a week! I paid for 11 weeks
This video was so helpful,I’ll be moving in here soon! How easy is it for packages to be delivered to the building?
Hey! I'm so glad it helped. It's super easy to have packages delivered -- there's an office where packages go, and you'll get an email when you have a package for pick-up!
My fav RUclipsr is back!!!
This means a lot coming from my favorite RUclipsr!!!!
hi i am going to move in to the Arc next semester and this apartment looks really nice! Do you have any recommendations for me to bring or buy?? Is Chicago dangerous to go out at night by myself? Btw thanks for the video I was looking for some real reviews about the Arc!
Hi! Definitely bring a Roku or hdmi cord for the TV, shower curtain (unless you have the room with its own bathroom), and other than the normal expected things, I can’t think of much else! It doesn’t come with a dining table if that affects what you pack. I feel safe in the Loop during the day to roam around by myself, but I personally wouldn’t risk it at night. I feel safe enough on the trains and walking at night as long as I have a friend or two with me Let me know if this doesn’t fully answer your questions, and I’m happy to give more details!!!
This is great! How was your experience at the ARC? Did you or any friends ever feel unsafe? We walked the area last week and wanted to ask some people who have had first hand experience living in the area. Thank you 😊
I have enjoyed living at Arc! I feel safe living here (within reason). I am never out at night by myself, so I can’t speak to that, but the apartment has 24/7 security… I always feel safe within the apartment. There is an area across the street where there’s a constant group of people cat calling and stuff like that, but I feel safe enough that’d I’d recommend Arc for student housing to others!
Thank you
Cool rooms loved it!
Thank you!!!
What are size of bedroom curtains and rods?
Hi! I replied on your other comment :) let me know if you have any other questions!
What size curtains and rods did you get for bedroom?
I think the curtains were 84 inches? And I do not remember for the rod, but I got one that was adjustable since I wasn’t sure how long I’d want it. I bet you can find the dimensions of the window if you search for Ridgecrest South on UA’s website!
Thanks!
I miss your energy Erin !!!
I miss you!!!
I want to live here!
Hey, I’m going to be working there this summer! Do you have any advice for a first time seasonal worker there?
Hey!! That’s so exciting. The first thing I can think of is just to go into it with the understanding that the job probably won’t always be the most fun, but the experience and the people you come across will make it worth it. Sometimes you might need to remind yourself of this haha because I know I definitely lost sight of that for a while and regret it now! I miss that summer all the time and only remember the positives now :)
@@ErinOLaughlin_ Thank you so much for the advice! I could definitely see that happening, so its great to know that going into it! I am so excited to be in the Tetons and meet so many new people!
@@josiefoss8382 of course!! So happy for you! Please let me know if you have any other questions as the summer gets closer :)
Super cute rooms!! Did you all submit before the priority housing deadline? I didn’t and now I’m scared I’m not going to get a suite :(
Thank you!! We did, but I also know some people who didn’t and still ended up in a suite!
Hey! Im an international student am cmg in next step intake , i just wanted to ask accommodation process nd how much it will cost ?
Hi! It depends on where you decide to live. My apartment was a little expensive compared to others just because I was struggling to find anything at the time. I think it was around 250 euros a week or something. I just googled short term housing in cork!
What was your favorite restaurant in Jackson? We're heading back this year, working at Lizard Creek campground.
I love Teton Thai, Liberty Burger, and pizza in Dornan’s! On a Monday night, the hootenanny is really fun in Dornan’s with live music and food :)
How wide is the desk? I want to put a hutch on top. Thanks
How wide is the desk? I want to put a hutch on top. Thanks
If you google Ridgecrest South, the dimensions for everything are on their website! Here’s what I found for the desk: “Desk (2 pieces)(desk, 30” W x 24” D x 30” H) (storage unit, 18” W x 24” D x 30”H)”
You should have showed a tour of marina market
I should’ve!! Was a fun place!
I have so many questions! Is there a way I could private email or message you! This college is where I would want to apply as an international student!
Do you have Instagram? You can dm me @erin.olaughlin. :) otherwise, no worries and I can send over my email!
@@ErinOLaughlin_ Thank you so much for getting back to me! :)
@@ErinOLaughlin_ I only have email
Hi!! Do you know if you are allowed to have a small crockpot in the dorms? Also has anyone every hung their microwave over th sink on a shelf to free up counter space? It would also be so helpful to know which specific room you each have (like “this is room A”, this is room “B”)
Hey Alison! I don’t remember what the exact rules are on dorms anymore. I’m guessing that TECHNICALLY you’re not supposed to have a crockpot, but I don’t know that it actually matters. I’ve never known anyone to put the microwave anywhere else, but I’m sure you could! We made another dorm tour a few months before this one that walks through each person’s room and we say which room letter we have in that video :) Let me know if you have any other questions!
Hi - Did Cork organize these excursions for the students - or did you have to coordinate on your own?
Hey James - these types of trips I coordinated on my own with friends I met at UCC! One of my friends is from Italy so she planned this trip :)
I loved how the rooms were decorated. My favorite part was seeing the 🥑 squish mellow. It made my day. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you!!
How did you select your living accommodation? Were you able to walk to campus from your apartment?
I had a hard time finding short term accommodation, so this was one of the options I found. I saw Scholarlee and the Hatch and ended up picking Scholarlee because it was so close to campus. Campus was maybe a five minute walk which was so nice!! Walking to the city took like 30 minutes, but I liked being close to campus because it motivated me to go to class
Ireland already feels like such a long time ago 🥲🍀
I miss it 😢😢
Very nice video :)
Hey! I just wanted to ask: what documents were required from you in order to get the accommodation?
Hi Alexandra - I honestly don’t remember which documents I needed at this point. Sorry, wish I could help!
does college provide u with a student accommodation themselves ? i plan on coming to cork for my undergrad i have a lot of doubts about the fee structure and living expenses and all
UCC doesn’t provide the accommodation, but there are a lot of student accommodation options around the city!
Do you like it?? I’m an international student and I think that I’m gonna chiede Cork as my Study Abroad program!
I loved it! UCC had a great international program, and I had an awesome experience. I miss it! Have so much fun if you end up going :)
I have put Cork as my first choice of university if they have caught me I will know on September 8 I really want to go now! could you give me recommendations for the suitcase or types in general
Nice! I think my suitcases are Travelpro brand but I could be wrong. Is that what you mean?
@@ErinOLaughlin_ I meen what to bring with me
Like essentials
Ohh, I see. I would recommend bringing comfortable shoes you can wear all the time (lots of walking… I had white reeboks), a rain jacket/rain boots, travel-sized toiletries in case you decide to go on trips during the semester, a lock for hostels, a journal, a waterbottle, etc. You can buy bedding from Penney’s when you get here, so I wouldn’t worry about anything like that! I was sure to pack lots of warm clothes too since it was generally pretty cold
Helpful! I’m moving in this fall. Does the hall kitchen already have pots and pans to use or do I have to bring my own?
I’m glad! You’ll have to bring your own pots and pans for the communal kitchens
Awesome video. Well done. I love the Tetons.
Thank you!! I do too :)
How did you hang curtains in bedroom?? Nails or command hooks?? Thanks
I used nails but my roommate used command hooks. She said that the hooks WILL rip the paint off the wall and you’ll be charged $50, so she suggests using nails. In Ridgecrest South, you get 10 nail holes allowed before being charged I am pretty sure
You are so cute! I really admire how naturally you took this adventure in lol. Meeting new people and doing new things, I love that. My plan is to study abroad in Limerick at one point during my college years.
Haha thank you!!! That’s so fun - I hope that works out for you!
Were you staying at Scholarlee? I think potentially magazine Road? I will be staying with Scholarlee this coming school year! How was your experience?
Haha yeah I was! I was very happy with my experience with Scholarlee. They were very accommodating and also had a cleaning service every other week to clean our kitchen and living room which was super nice. I liked how close it was to UCC as well. And Sicilian Delights across the street is 👌🏻
