I still have to find the answer, but I want to live in a 1984 GMC 3500 motorhome. I can’t really find out how much BTU each item uses. However, I am assuming the heater in the motorhome will be a lot higher than 20,000 BTU?

I have an Attwood GE16EXT combo GAS/Electric water heater. I believe there is a design problem on the controller board that causes infant mortality (some might call it a retroactive abortion) of the PCB's transistor that sends 12VDC to energize the Relay mounted behind the heater that sends 120VAC to the heating element. I have had to replace the potted controller TWICE in a 3-year period because the yellow wire was not getting energized. Otherwise, a $0.25 transistor is all that would be necessary. The Propane portion of the heater was working. It is good engineering practice to add a DIODE (1N4001) to clamp the back EMF produced when the relay is deenergized. I soldered the Cathode to the yellow wire and the Anode to the Green wire in position #6 of the connector. This way the new controller's transistor will not be damaged in the future. The PCB's relay that sends power to the Gas Valve may very well have a similar issue but there is no way to add a protection diode due to the potting compound.

I had a pair of Fantastic vent fans in my truck sleeper and really enjoyed having the air come in from the cab and out the roof. Mine had all the controls on the fan and no remote. I do like the idea of being able to use it as a ceiling fan but that's not a deal breaker. I often ran them on opposite flows, at lower speeds to keep the sound level down. If I bought one of the two brands you showed, it would be the MaxxFan for the build quality.

I didn’t want to be “that guy” on the internet, but at 2:09 what you are pointing at as the heating element is not the heating element. On an Atwood/Dometic the 110 heating element is on the back side, bottom edge, along with its power control relay. The control board will send +12v on the yellow wire when calling for heat from the 110 element. That yellow wire runs to the power relay at the back that closes to energizes the heating element. In most applications the water heater has to be removed to change the 110 element on an Atwood. What you are pointing to are the ECO (emergency cut off) on the left, and the thermostat on the right. The thermostat should have continuity only when below its set temperature. The ECO is a safety and will shut the unit down if the thermostat fails closed and temperatures exceed normal range. Generally they come as a set that includes the foam cover, ECO and Thermostat. Once the foam is peeled off the thermostat and eco just twist to align tabs with slots to pull out. I’d also mention the silver thing in clear tubing on the right lug of the thermostat is also a safety/thermo cutoff. It’s above the burner assembly for a reason. If a person leaves the propane side on while traveling, wind can draw the flame out of the burner, and (don’t bet on it) that safety might open and prevent a disaster.

Add a transfer relay to your system so you can plug in a shore cord and not blow yourself up or burn down the camper. I use the 80A double pole double throw from Amazon. You wire the coil to the shore power. Now add some solar panels and a charge controller to the mix to charge your batteries.

There's an adapter that is 2 15amp connectors at one end and a 50amp connector at the other end. The 50amp connectors connects to the trailers's 50amp power cord and the 2 15amp plugs use 2 15amp outlets on the inverter. I only have a 3000watt inverter so I will only get about 25amps thru out my trailer to manage. I can run everything including my A/C. There only restriction will be how much battery ah's and solar I have.

I have a toy hauler and I did a very similar hook up seven years ago. I installed roof solar and then I have some secondary solar that I hang from my slide out and from the back garage door I have a huge underbelly compartments that’s where I put some additional batteries and my inverter And because my power cord is right there, it was an easy connect, for me as long as I have my coffee pot that’s all I needed the RV house battery is a WEIZE 200 amp hour Matt battery that’s what I chose for the house battery the last battery I had like that lasted me 17 years For my inverter, I bought some lithium ion batteries and I made a box under the belly where I did all the connection still going strong. The only difference that I did is I ran power cords throughout the RV which took some doing. I ran one to the front where the bed is Where my computer is there are two in the kitchen and there are two in the garage so I could run my inverter one of two ways I could plug-in those cords that I have isolated specifically for the task or I could continue with the plug-in method which I prefer That gives me 110 adaptability in the coach battery runs all the 12 V DEF battery will last pretty much a month of running all the 12 V accessories my fridge of course runs on propane. I’m glad the algorithm sent me to your video. I’ll have to watch your others. Seems like we think similar though I’m significantly older than you. Good luck.

I have an old truck and Lance camper (80s) I added a 200ah lithium battery, two 100w solar panels with a charge controller, and a 3000w inverter. When I travel long distances with my fridge running off the inverter, it kills my battery. I'd like to add my truck's charging system while towing through the existing 7-pin connection that has a 10awg wire available in the engine compartment. It has a 120-amp alternator and dual AGM batteries. It needs to disconnect automatically when the truck is off. What do I need?
