How To Build a Camera Car on a Budget in 2024
This is an in-depth guide on how to build a camera car on a budget. While it's not dirt cheap, it is the safest professional way to build a chase car.
Using my 2015 Porsche Macan S, I mounted speedrail to my thule wingbar, and then mounted a camera stabilizer to my car to create my camera car rig. This has been a great way to solve the question, "how to film cars while driving?"

    You can simplify your rear hitch connection mounting bars by just drilling a new hitch pin hole that is 90 degrees from the original hole so that it makes the trailer ball flange 90 degrees from normal and that means that your bar clamp will be vertical just like your front. That means that you don't have to have all the additional cross bars to make it vertical

    • @Robert.DeCorah
      @Robert.DeCorah Месяц назад

      You really want the horizontal bar first so that there is a secondary bar there to create a triangle partially up the vertical speed rail. This is because if the single vertical rail works loose and slips, the other rail is keeping it in place. This actually happened to Jacob from Golden Peaks Productions and his rig hit the pavement. More times it’s about having a fail safe than simplicity.

    Thank you for your extensive review! My frequent use case is to photograph hundreds of specimens in showcases in exhibitions and museums. Since the specimens are on shelves at different heights using a tripod is really tedious and so the StandPlus seems a good solution for this, right? Unfortunately these showcases have shelves from 0 to 70“ and the standplus max height is 60.2“ and the specimens should often be photographed from a higher position. How could the height of the StandPlus be increased? What would you recommend? Thank you for your time and expertise!

    • @Robert.DeCorah
      @Robert.DeCorah 4 месяца назад

      Anything you do to increase the camera height for the taller specimens, will subtract that same amount from how low it can go. So if thet are 70", and you want to shoot them from slightly higher, than you would want to add 14-18" to the stands height. This means that if you put the standplus as it's lowest setting, add 14-18" to that number. Would it still work for what you do if that were to be the happen?

I believe the connection to gimbal for power is essentially the same deal so I was curious about the power up sequence that you follow now. Are you plugging all things on the gimbal into the gimbal first and then sending power to the gimbal with the lemo to d-tap cable? For context, I have the v-mount plate for the rs2 that replaces the original mounting plate on the gimbal itself. I usually power my camera via the 2 pin lemo on that v-mount mounting plate but it seems like there are possible points of failure with various devices and their power draw.

      @@AndresArosemena Its nice, bit heavy, but works well. I'm not too happy about the steel balls on the bottom of the unit because they don't allow for good smooth movement. Other-than-that, it's an impressive piece of kit.

    This is awesome. I have a bad habbit of buying stuff then watching reviews but I was essentialy looking for a quick deployment tripod and they are a pretty penny. This popped up and knew it was the one. I do videos of cars I work on so I need to get quick B roll shots since I also dont want to sabotage deadlines. Usually I'll have my employee hold my gimbal but then I pull him from the job. Im just hoping it works well on my floor since i have that ribbed Racedeck flooring. If anything will hold it more in place.

    This is so true. I feel like people are under the impression that if the content doesn’t get millions of views or viral, that it underperforms. I don’t see it that way. I’ve never gone “viral” but as I am more consistent, my engagement and following has definitely increased.

    Just ordered it, can you suggest a GOOD PADDED case for it? Also any idea on maybe some rubber FEET COVERS? 🤷🏻‍♂️

      I haven't traveled with it, so I don't have anything in particular I can recommend. I just fold it up and put it in the corner.
