    Canada and Russia might have more or less the same harsh winters (and Moscow and St. Petersburg are as cold as Montreal and Toronto), but Canada has a standard of living and rule of law much more like Australia. In this more exact sense, Canada is more similar to the Nordic countries than to Russia.

    5:44 "The only international vehicular tunnel in the world" Really??? When I was in France, near Menton, I missed the exist to the French city. I entered a tunnel and when I exited I was in Italy. On the French side, it was the Autoroute La Provançale (A8) and in Italy Autostrada dei Fiori (A10). In fact, between France and Italy, there are many international vehicular tunnels.

      Canada's immigration rate has grown in recent years at an even faster rate than Australia's. So much so that, when combined with lagging infrastructure investment, it has led Canada into a "population trap" unparalleled in the developed world.

    If they held the population growth still, these developments would be helpful. As long as we're letting in enormous numbers (and probably selling the new homes as offshore presales, as is our practice) - this isn't going to be an improvement.

    The picture of the slave working in the field was not the case in PEI where most were in servitude as maids and other labour looking after the house of their master and mistress. Their were no farm plantations in PEI. If any people were in near servitude it was the Acadians, the Irish and the Scottish. The indigenous people were simply trying to survive!

  • @lucforand8527
    @lucforand8527 Месяц назад

    The British didn't suddenly change the name of Acadie to Nova Scotia. In fact King James of England gave a Royal Charter to what he referred to as Nova Scotia in 1629. The French and English then fought over it for about 80 years until the issue was settled in 1713; at least with respect to mainland Nova Scotia.

  • @lucforand8527

    Maritimers have their own history that is different from that of Central (Quebec and Ontario) and Western Canada (Manitoba west). The sad fact is that most Canadians don't have a clue about this history unless their ancestors come from their; thankfully, their are quite a few of them as one of the great exports from the Maritimes are its people!

  • @lucforand8527
    @lucforand8527 Месяц назад

    You skipped over a few things a bit quick. Louisbourg on Cape Breton Island only became the capital of Acadie after 1713 when what is now mainland Nova Scotia was ceded to England. Until this time, the capital was at Port Royale at the mouth of today's Annapolis River.

    No one calls the downtown eastside DTES ... no one. Thats just not a real thing away from City Hall. And a lot of people who live in that rather large geographic community would argue about it being generalized as 'squalor'. Yes, the homeless / drug populations is large in population when compared to other cities, , but they are very centralized into a pretty small area. And the entire way you discussed the safe injection site drips with the obviousness that not only do you not approve, but don't really know anything about it at all. Its not just heroin and the staff dont 'assist people to inject' ... thats not exactly how it works and everyone knows that ... but you are giving the impression that medical professionals are actually holding needles and injecting. Thats just inaccurate. These days, its far more about pills ... Fentanyl ... and keeping people alive by testing it before they take it. Beyond that, much of the Eastside and even parts of the downtown eastside are cultural hubs with very vibrant and well regarded centers of culture and community focused life, but your angle is as if the entire region is a slum. Thats also just inaccurate. I dont even live there or in Vancouver at all ... and I know that.

    So much of this is so badly research. What. You're PEI video was great but in this one you've clearly only read the english side of the story. No mention of "La grande paix" de montréal. You refer to the french canadians as "rebels" a few times. French canadians did NOT "enjoy" the church. The british always had the catholic church in their pockets. You made it sound like they were happy about it in order to hide from the english speakers.

      @GeoPerspectiveCanada-fr4tj Re-reading my comment, sorry I if was a bit harsh there. I mean the literal swear words in QC are based in hatred for the church haha. But yeah great work on P.E.I :) I'll watch more vids for sure :) If you want something challenging to research and write about, do one about Quebec! You'll need to do a lot of translation work but if you try to understand the POV of QC separatism, you'll reveal the full understanding of the whole Canadian federation as well. It's def one of my fav Canadian history topics as the story of QC is the full picture of the story of canada (new france -> (7 yrs war) -> province of quebec -> (american revolution) -> lower canada -> (durham report) -> province of canada / qc). hot topics to look up online: - charles de gaule speech in 1967 - 24 juin 1968 - trudeau (dad) provocation in mtl - 16th 1970 - "just watch me", FLQ (look up that vid of FLQ training with palestinians in the 70s) - 1980 first works for canadian (non-british) constitution, first referendum - 1982 - "Nuit des long couteaux" canadian independence from UK without QC - 1987 - lac Meech accord (failed attempt at getting QC in the constitution) - 1995 - 2nd referendum - everyone deciding to stop giving a fuck - "Le confort et l'indifférence", (my own interpretation being that neo-liberalism and capitalism takes over everything, putting cultural issues aside)

The only similarity between Australia and Canada is that they’re both English speaking countries that’s really where the similarities end. I’ve lived in both the us and Canada, day to day life is virtually indistinguishable. Australia’s definitely pretty different
