    So awesome! The footwork in Class Act and Tap Tap. just…wow! And Dule Hill as a kid, adorable! What was the name of the number with all the props? So creative, and difficult! What I wouldn’t give to see some of those numbers from the end of the show.

    Thanks for uploading! I read the book in three languages, saw the three movies, a Canadian amateur movie "made for RUclips", the 1988 musical, the 2012 revival and numerous student musical productions of Carrie. And, of course, I went through a Carrie-like youth myself (having autism in the 1980s when hardly anyone knew how to deal with it). Of all the Carrie musicals I came across, this one comes closest to the book and the 1976 movie (my favourites). - 5:14 Carrie prays to her mother, while in the 1988 musical, she prays to the Lord Almighty. I prefer the latter approach. Carrie does not really love her mother, but she has nobody else to love (until Tommy comes along). + 9:10 the period scene, much like the 1976 movie, even with physical abuse and Miss Gardner urging everyone to get out. Greatly done. + 10:19 MISS GARDNER I'M BLEEDING TO DEATH !! She nailed it. I wish Sissy Spacek would have used that line in the 1976 movie. 16:02 the scene with the boys. I like the fact that Billy Nolan is missing; in the book, he is not part of Ewen High. However, I miss a TK scene like the "Creepy Carrie" scene in the book and the movies. 21:36 Carrie getting thrown in the closet by her mother. One of the most convincing renditions of that scene. + 22:54 no "Don't Waste The Moon". It's a great song but it does not add much to the story. The revival does a better job with "The World According To Chris" (this is also where you could introduce Billy Nolan). + 23:09 yes, the roll call and the punishment dialogue from the 1976 movie! Always loved that one. I prefer it to the other musical in which the girls have to say sorry, and the revival in which the girls are working out before the verdict. + 25:42 yes, the book and movie ending of that scene ("this isn't over by a long shot"). + 31:55 the Kelly Fruit scene! I always loved that one, and I regret it from being missing or amended in the movies and other musicals. This is such a key scene because after it, Sue and Chris, who used to be best friends, have become arch enemies. - I would like to see Tommy saying "Scary White" and Sue replying "Don't call her that!", followed by Tommy: "She's used to it Sue!" + 38:52 I like the failed first attempt of Tommy asking Carrie, flowing into the "Unsuspecting Hearts" scene. Just like in the 1976 movie. In the revival, the order of events (Sue being sorry, the punishment, Carrie and Miss Gardner) seems less logical to me. - 43:46 Chris coming up with her plan. Why now? Carrie did not accept yet. I would move that further up, so it remains a mystery what Chris has in mind. In the revival, it is revealed at the beginning of act 2. I would place it at the end of act 1 and change the dialogue as follows: Billy: "What did that gym teacher say to you? I guess you can take your pig?" Chris: "Yes, she said that... Hey, that's it... That's it, Billy, that's it!" Billy: "What?" Chris: "Pig's blood for a pig!" (merciless reverb on the mic so the line will stick with the audience having a break) + 44:20 I like Tommy's second attempt set as a reprise of "Do me a favour". However, I would leave Chris out of the scene. Her favour was already fulfilled, because if Carrie said no, then Sue would be Chris's target. - 49:16 Margaret reveals the details of Carrie's conception. I prefer this to be at the end, just like in the book and the movies. - 51:06 the "Crackerjack" scene is too long. I prefer the revival's approach. I also think the revival outlined the prom night, the destruction and the aftermath better than the original musical. All in all, this is a great rendition of the musical and I enjoyed it very much.

    This was an insanely brilliant production that I saw 4 times. The cast was phenomenal (and look at how far so many of them came from this - Tony nomination for Derek, major Broadway leading roles for Christy and Jeanna), and then of course there’s beautiful Marin who the most known cast member at the time. She gave Margaret a heart and soul, which is no easy task. RIP. 💔 Her “When There’s No One” broke me. This production was so special and made me weep at the end. So beautifully staged. Thank you so much for posting and bringing back this incredible theatrical memory!

    Best use of this material yet and perfect casting, without a doubt. And there’s never been a better Destruction (was never quite a fan of the group choreographed dance interpretation seen in most other productions) barring one thing: I wish it was clearer what happened to Tommy. Maybe it’s just the videography, but he just suddenly falls to the ground and no one reacts. I’m certain it will always be tough to outdo this production.

    It’s so odd the hear the audience laughing so much. It’s a very tragic story, especially Birdie’s revelation. Stapleton certainly didn’t play it for laughs, but the public found it funny for whatever reason.

    • @atimelesswindow3629
      @atimelesswindow3629 Месяц назад

      I couldn’t agree more, her performance brought tears to my eyes yet the audience laughed… I suppose out of context certain lines could have been interpreted as quippy or silly, as Birdie is believed to be “silly” by the Hubbards and it shows. If anything the audience should be distraught at learning Birdie isn’t just a silly woman who talks too much, but a fully fledged human being with complex emotions and feelings who has suffered extreme abuse and a life full of hardships. She lives in the past mentally and always talks about it because it’s literally her only escape! It was the only part of her life she remembers being happy!! The audience reaction was very confusing. I’m sure I’m preaching to the choir lol, but that moment is my favorite scene in every single adaptation (with the opening being the second), and it makes my heart swell every time. Birdie is my favorite character, and it makes me sad to think that people find her situation comedic or something worth laughing at in any capacity. Since you pointed it out and thought the same thing, I had to share my agreement with a likeminded individual 😂
