This is one step above phrenology. It's not that it's completely impossible to deduce any intent or hidden meaning from body language, but to claim that the way a person raises his or her hand when taking an oath tells you whether or not their testimony is honest is absurd. It is frightening that "experts" who peddle this nonsense are brought in to help select juries or to consult on the veracity of witnesses. It is also culturally ignorant. People raised in, for example, the U.S., Japan, India, Italy, and England will have developed body motions during conversation that are unique to their cultures. A gesture that is claimed to signify intent to hide the truth in the United States may very well be a gesture in Japan that shows respect for the other person.

Is body language foolproof? I mean can it be applied universally? Can different conditions and cultures lead to different types of body languages? Just wondering. Any thoughts, ideas or videos to substantiate this?

Okay, a good portion of her ideas are pseudo science. She's interpreting things to be too general. For example, the hand bent backward meaning "they'll bend over backwards to get you to believe them but will tell a lie." Come on, just give me one in-depth study showing this. That's absurd.

I think it's about meta-communication. i e not the actual message conveyed, but extra information on the speaker. If you're telling me where you've been this morning, I learn about the place from what you say. 100% of it. But I will know if you are happy about being there, if you disliked it, if you would go again etc from your body language. In this case, 7% is the tone of your voice and the other 93 your body language... At least that's how I interpret it.

Dear Jan.. The statement you are saying about the 93% is not correct. The percentage is from the mehrabian study in the 1950`s and was about emotions and attitudes. You need to read the study. Even Mister Mehrabian says that a lot of body language experts interpreted the study all wrong. If 93% is nonverbal....why should we learn to speak other languages?
