Hand-feeding a rainbow trout
I've tried to hand-feed rainbow trout lots of times, I've been super successful 3 times in about 30 years!
Do I get bitten? Yes!
Does it hurt? Nope.
Any difference between feeding a rainbow trout and a smallmouth bass?
Yes! Watch the video to see how!!!!

so freakin cool i love your work on these!
Looks like lake sturgeon are extinct now???
The large triangle sinkers from pinegrove park area😊
I caught one of these guys yesterday in my creek... It's beautiful. I keep him in my freshwater tank. These have got to be the most colorful freshwater fish. I swear it's like the freshwater equivalent to a clownfish. And I got lucky because usually these guys are super hard to catch but luckily I caught him off - guard and it even turned out to be SUPER colorful. I know I'm ranting so much but it's awesome because it's like catching a tropical fish in a little creek.
For anyone interested, look up the previous NYS smallmouth record from the st. Lawrence. That's a result of eating goby, the things girth almost matches it's length
Leave it to humans to ruin everything they touch
Super cool!
Loved this!
We seem to have opposite issues. I never have issues with smallmouths taking food from me but trout never give me the chance. Personal preference I guess. Makes you wonder if the fish recognize individual divers and have “opinions” about all of us
Sorry for not wording that better. By proportionally, I meant that we see lots (like 1-2 dozen) smallmouth on every dive and one or two of the smaller ones will often feed. So, that's like a ratio of 2:24 (on every dive.). But my lifetime record with rainbows is like 3:5. In that way, I've been more successful with rainbows 😀 But interestingly, there was a controlled study done to see if fish can recognize individuals and the answer was yes! For example, captive fish do react differently to different caretakers.
Amazing! I'd never think the first fish you'd hand feed would be a rainbow since they spook so easy. Awesome video
it's a really clever spawning behavior and an effective way to protect the nest! seal it up! lots of work though!
very cool!
thanks!
That’s so cool! Those are steelhead right? Migratory rainbows!
They're pretty small so they are still rainbows. They don't switch over to being steelhead until they're bigger/older. Thanks for commenting!!
lmao this is awesome
Cool video! I like the music that goes with it? How deep of water is that? Can you jig for them in that area as well??
It's anywhere from 20 to 50 feet deep. We're not anglers but we know guys that do jig for walleye here.
Wow thanks for the well delivered info this is very insightful into the underwater world I only see from the surface
is that a tree trunk?
what is the camera orientation here? in which direction is the St Clair River inlet?
The river connects Lake Huron to Lake St. Clair. It flows south and the camera faces southeast
@@PolkaDotPerch ah very cool
Yeah look up what a sieche is! Involves quite a bit of wind
So cool to have so many friends ! What therapy
Best therapy in the world!
Must have been extremely windy
Those bass fish protecting their spawning beads are hilarious!
Cool concept tho btw
It's crazy to see how much current is down there honestly. Yes I know there would be just being a lake and seeing it are completely different
Guess the bass weren’t hungry.
We see them strike every once in a while and it's always cool to see!
I laughed at the finger wiggle towards the fish at around 3:15, I do exact same thing!
Cool Beans
loved the vid cool much love
Thank you for showing! Love
Much deserved! We're currently working on a gathering video and a net sinker stone piece...coming soon! Miigwech 🥰
@@PolkaDotPerch Great, keep it up! Much love
Squash the gobi
lol
“Secret alloy” ?!?!? Nope!
lol...he's definitely the sponge bob of u/w welders
I heard bass were really friendly and they will follow you around and claim you, fighting off other bass
It's true that they follow us around! I like to think it's cuz they enjoy our company but really it's because we kick over rocks and other stuff and they are hoping a crayfish or goby will pop out!! Friends with benefits?!
How can a perch that small possibly break someones line? He must've took them into a snag
It's amazing how strong fish are even the little ones!
that was really cool, very informative, most underwater videos arent this detailed i love ur passion
Thanks, We do love fish! And we appreciate you watching and commenting!!
Great Job on this new video. Amazing how many different kinds of fish and creatures pass in front of this camera. What can us viewers do to help spot fishes?
Where exactly is this? I'd like to visit 👍
The upper St. Clair River. If you're not familiar it's a great dive area but, like many great dive sites, there are some significant hazards that need to be acknowledged and respected. Anchor Bay Scuba is the closest dive shop for more info on diving the area.
Wow! That is awesome. I'm a Fisherman and my cousin is too. But he also is a Scuba Diver. Now I need to tell him about feeding fish. I think he will just love the idea of feeding fish.
It's one of our favorite things to do underwater! Hope your cousin gives it a try!
Absolutely insane. Why is lake michigans water so clear compared to lake erie. Is this the real reason for ohio v michigans fued?
Could be! It's certainly another way Michigan excels, lol
Lovely video, ugly fish.
1,000 Subscribers Yahooo. Thank you to all you fish watchers. The fish activityhas been picking up real fast this spring as the water warms up. Has anybody counted how many different kinds of fish and birds and creatures that have been seen on camera?🎥🐟
Awesome video thank you for doing this.
Our pleasure! Thanks for watching and commenting!
Nice video! I've only fished Huron (Drummond Island) once in my life, and the walleye bite was excellent. Great underwater video!
Thanks so much! We appreciate you taking the time to comment!! Good luck out there.
Great vid. Dig the underwater footage
Thanks 👍Appreciate you watching and commenting!!
How many identifiable individual fish, if any, do you see? Can a cormorant digest a whole corn cob?
So far we've seen 28 different species!! We'll be posting a video shortly with a shot of most (there's a couple we saw but didn't record!) As for the corn cob 🤷♂ Cormorants swallow fish whole so the size and shape shouldn't be a problem. They also digest the whole fish bones and all so perhaps they could break down a corn cob. We asked two biologists and neither had a clue since it's not something they had ever heard of happening!?! Thanks for commenting!
Very nice!
Thanks! We love seeing our native fish owning the invasives!
Where have all the flowers gone? Long time passing...😢
Right?! We're sooooo looking forward to the return of the FISH!!!! Should be starting to see more action in the next few weeks 👍
2 fish at 3:31:39 as well
