3D Printed Shoes: Foamy and Customizable Clogs
After a few attempts at 3D printed shoes, I've finally developed something I actually really like wearing. They are clogs, and I'm not talking about the kind that jam up your nozzle. I like them so much that I've made 3D models of them available for anyone to order on 3DShoemaker.com. The key to these 3D printed clogs is the high degree of customization as well as the soft and foamy TPU I used that should print easily on just about any desktop 3D printer, whether at home or in a clinic. The orientation and support material approach I used is also helpful. I'll get into all of this in this 3DShoemaker video.

In this 3DShoemaker tutorial, I'm going to show you how to 3D print foamy orthotic insoles using models from 3DShoemaker.com and filament that should work on pretty much any modern desktop 3D printer. The results are quite impressive, and the cost is similar to buying off-the-shelf insoles and far cheaper than getting anything custom done. I really think that with this approach it is now truly ...

I broke my ankle and have been through pure hell. ive lost several jobs. I need some help I have tried to 3d print a support boot that is thin enough to fit into my shoe and strong enough to give support to my ankle. it needs to be able to lace up or tightened with velcro or something? I really need your help.
That sounds awful... Definitely sounds like you should try to see a local pedorthist or similar... Currently a fully custom should we be the best option. I hope to eventually have some more substantial 3D printed shoes that could help with something like this, but they are still a ways off. You could always experiment designing something with Rhino/3DShoemaker plugin and printing it with a similar technique as I've shown in this video...
Any recommendations for 3D modeling footwear? I’ve tried shaper3d and nomad. Wanted a recommendation before I commit to learning a new software
I want to build around my stl last file. I think tpu could be used for many different components in hand made shoes besides inserts ect, very exciting, not just fully 3D printed shoes
@@cowboyismm7027 Rhino
What filament brand do you recommend.
See links in description
I'm super happy I came across your channel. I'm working with my team to get our printer working with foaming TPU and it looks like you've got the perfect settings. Thanks a lot for sharing and being so thorough!
Glad you found it helpful!
Looks like you’ve put a lot of effort into these and they look quite good! I’m surprised at how expensive the model is. On top of the already expensive TPU, this puts a pair of shoes at close to $60. I recently ordered some clogs from China for $5 all in for comparison.
Ability to customize is the biggest benefit here I think.
@@3DShoemaker That would be a big benefit... if one could play with it without having to pull the $$ out for each adjustment. Love the concept! Love to support your work, don't love how you've ended up monetizing it (the hard part)
@@ejh237 I definitely see your point. With the customer doing the printing and covering that cost, they shouldn't have to pay yet again if they need adjustments. I'll have to figure out how best to manage this... In the meantime, if you want to give it a try, you can ask for free revisions, within reason.
Also would a resin printer be suitable? If its printed solid?
Not sure, I've never used a resin printer...
I got the same filament when I got my 3D printer ( 12 months ish ) but did not try it till recently ( My next video ) its expensive but very good. I wonder haw well a unit would hold up !
I first heard of it a couple years ago, but just wrote it off as some finicky filament. Glad I finally tried it.
Where can I get the metal rods?

Can you make an actual video like step by step?? That would be really helpful 🤓
Gonna make a new type, probably in a couple months or so, will try to be more detailed
How do you make one for a leg length discrepancy? what filament do i need
from the level of customization drop down choose advanced. And choose the option for L/R being different. Then you can set the overall thickness differently for the left and right. TPU is good for orthotics.
This looks excellent! I'm guessing your going for the medical footwear market ? this looks perfect for that. but I'm more 'Rock and Roll' LOL ... I'm perplexed Y Rhino 🦏 🦏?? """seems""" not the best choice for a big audience?? IMO Blender may be a better choice?? its free & lots if support on line. you may find a new market in blender & make it easier for new adopters. I love your software. ied grab it but I'm sort of stuck in my 3ds Max rut LOL although max is nowhere near perfect for footwear, it dus do all the stuff needed. it even has a pritty good cloth sim that is very useful to see the forces on the upper on the last.
How do you print the left shoe last once you have your stl file?
Slicers have a mirroring option. For instance, in Bambulab, you just right click the object and choose the option to mirror.
There is no measurement listed for the heel height. Is variable heel height a feature you’ll be adding?
Heel height is controlled by the last the component is associated with.
What is a good filament for a shoe outsole? I am only interested in printing and outsole and do the rest in fabric x)
at the moment, all I've tried is TPU. will try other stuff later

How much filament does it take to make an average shoe last?🤔
1kg
Why did you go with 95A? Wouldn’t 70A work better?
It's what I had on hand, and it's easier to print.

Heels are usually attached with screws. Have you done a version like that?
@@dorirenelus5507 No, but with 5mm wall thickness it could likely hold screws
Why not using pva as support material ?
Would need a dual extruder printer for that, as TPU won't go through multi material systems, at least not easily
Have you looked into experimenting with nonplanar printing? It seems quite complicated.
Not yet...
Can you make these for flip flops?
In the design adjustments section of the ordering form, you can toggle the fit to get a slip on. And then you can also add thong slot if you want.

That's a really clever way of supporting stuff, correct me if I'm wrong, Is your heat bed fixed in place? I've got a sovol 4 and it's a "bed Slinger", I've tried similar support concepts to this but mine failed because the "bed Slinger" introduces too many vibrations at the top of the Z axis. im looking at this for a better printing solution but its not reedy yet. ruclips.net/video/f0rVNFXp9IA/видео.htmlsi=wnd4vOuj7p6MoNw5
Thanks. Heat bed goes up and down, that's it
@@3DShoemaker Yer... so bed slingers as i have look a bit more common to me & the vibration is a problem as it goes up it gets worse. but its an ease fix whith a few more supports.
Smart! It seems it is a relatively stiff filament - probably stiffness > 90. I'm not sure it will function with stiffness of 85 or less. What do you say? Thanks!
Softer would be better I agree
@@3DShoemaker but it will be possible?
@@pedorthicart1201 I think so
@@3DShoemakerI'm not sure but it will be great to be true!
Looks like the smart supports should go higher up the Orthotic. I'm seeing print artifacts due to the orthotic flexing in the example print time-lapse.
Possibly, they will be adjusted if necessary
omg by any chance do you have a plugin for Solidworks
No, only Rhino...
wait i have to ask, is this something people do. How do you get into it and do people just send you jobs. I've never knew this was a thing
