The last flight of 2023 Another beautiful morning in Rockingham Australia. Today's flight was around Garden Island. Federica's second flight after the crash onto the reef. She is still very nervous but getting better. As we went over the first reef instinctively she lifted her legs further away from the reef! I have such an amazing partner to continue to trust me.

Well, what a crazy 8 weeks. Elevator cable snaping lead to crashing and sinking on a reef, hurting my lovely girlfriend. I proposed the next day and luckily she said yes. the mudskipper suffered substantial damage but after 6 weeks of hard work it is serviceable. Today was Federicas first flight since the mishap, she was rightfully nervous as you can see with her lack of facial expressions and ...

Do you have build plans you can share?
I don't sorry
Thanks, this one answered my question re build. Incredible project.
Fascinating set up. I recall an individual, or business, doing trial tests for a commercial ground affect vessel in Cairns, about 10 years ago. It never 'got off the ground' so to speak, which is a pity. I do a bit of kite surfing/foiling where I live so I can understand the value in getting above the chop.
Awesome build & video, thanks for sharing. How does it bank & turn? It does not seem to have ailerons/elevator, guessing the rudder does it all.
Thanks very much. It used rudder eland elevator. The secondary effect of yaw is roll
@@Ground-Effect Yeh true. I'm in Bali, I miss flying as no airstrips here, but this rig has me captivated. Excuse my question if you've been asked many times before, but did you build the craft? Does it come as a kit?
What’s New Mr. Skipper ???? 😊
you rock buddy, you are a total inspiration, mine is about 80 percent done, same colour too, except i have aluminum wings (a little bit heavy at 60 lbs each) are you selling plans? I'm intrigued how you are steering without ailerons??
Thanks, I appreciate the kind words. Have you got any photos of yours? Aluminium will be my next choice of material. No I'm not sadly. I am using rudder for roll. The secondary effect of yaw is roll!
you rock buddy!! im about 80 percent done mine...same colour too! lol
Brilliant Video EXCEPT for the music. I was expecting actual engine, wind sound etc not a band video
Thanks. If you want to hear the loud annoying static sound of wind passing over the microphone and the sound of a loud engine at a continuous RPM for 4 continuous minutes then there are several raw videos on my channel for your ears to enjoy. I'm sure you will appreciate the tunes after you hear it for 20 seconds 😜
@@Ground-Effectexactly and thanks for the music I really liked it and added to that real cruisy feeling of flying around just above the water. And the sound of the engine and the wind was in the start of vid anyway. Looked like heaps of fun
I wouldn't tell people if I won the lottery But there would be signs
Hahaha, I built it cheaper than you would think
@@Ground-Effect what are the chances of you emailing me any build plans you have so the mud skipper can someday have a baby brother
I know shock when I see it, elevating her legs did the trick
She was freaking out about sharks and seaweed😜
@@Ground-Effect hahahaha good to know, I was really racking my brain on the existential crisis that was unfolding
We had an ag pilot auger in and die recently nearby. Makes me ponder more survivable flying machines. If it goes bad you still high enough to murder yourself eh?
If you look at one of my other videos you will see an incident that I had. We walked/swam away with minor cuts and bruises
This is just the coolest thing I have ever seen.
Thanks! On holidays for 3 months now but when I'm back I will fly it again!
Supercool interpretation of the Ektoplan. Would this need a pilot license - that would be the deciding factor I think.
Thanks. No only a skippers ticket is required
It's boat not a plane. I have one in Barbados, 90% complete 90% to go!
I think this would really take-off if it was done on the scale of a Jet Ski.
I'm working on a smaller version!
So, how many guns do you think HMAS Stirliing had pointed at you as you flew towards the island?
Haha, I'm sure they know me now. Have a look at the video where I fly close to a submarine under tow into Stirling
What motor and prop are you using ? Performs very well
It's a 13hp 4 stroke Honda copy. The prop is homemade. 36 inch
So is this classified as a boat or a plane? I was waiting to see if you got pulled over!
It's classified as a boat. I got it all approved with the authoritys
Autopilot. Stay tuned. 🤞🏽👍🏽😉
Mission accomplished. Fantastic
The Pillow Panther
Dying to know how she felt even a meter above ge
I'm impressed 👏🏽
Takes an amazing person to take it to completion. Congratulations Mr Amazing 👏🏽
Thanks very much!
Should have seating for ten, I'm sure it can handle it. Sure not sure ;]
Oops…that could have been serious. Shows it does have an inherent safety. The foam construction is like a giant crash helmet. That said, do you wear crash helmets? Seat belts? Out of interest, what speed?
Hello. Yes it held up well considering and we were not badly hurt. No we don't use seatbelts or helmets. Max speed so far is 120kph
...because your cool.
hay James what your C/L .. Lift coefficient .8 .5 ?
Volkwagon motor too to keep expenses down
Im building one using a jon boat /tinney for the hull with lifting wings
Great view of the ultra low altitude flying. Must be thrilling machine to fly.
Is it able to carry any cargo?
You can tell she was scared, but she was there with you, brother. Outstanding, proformance from the both of you,it takes big balls and a lot of courage to do these things. Big smiles from the USA are coming at you! Best of luck, bro.
Beautiful machine, great videos! Does the Mudskipper stay IGE "Hands Off" or does it need constant corrections to fly this close to the surface?
Such a cool project!
Appreciate it!
Glad to see you both back on the horse. How about seat belts Captain???
Thanks! Still don't believe having seatbelts is any safer that not having seatbelts so I won't be adding them at this stage
Amazing craft, you truly are living the dream. What is the estimated fuel consumption and range? I know somewhere before you said airspeed is 100kph.
Thanks mate! I get about 150km out of 40L at 100kph
Please take my money
Cool! Are use the ailevon control surface for roll?
The control surfaces are elevator for pitch and rudder for roll
What's the angle of the wings? Wing area?
They are at about 5 degrees. 18m2
How did you get it back to land?
Good question!! A long story very short, found two people with small boats to put under each wingtip and then used differential power to steer back to shore
hi James r u flying much in the winter ?? or do u even have a winter ? its cold and wet in nz im in the cockpit. controls and wiring and fun fiddly bits a nice change from fiberglass
Hey Trou! No I haven't had a chance due to the weather sadly and now I am on a 3 months holiday around the world. October I hope to be flying again after a good inspection. How far off do you think you are?
@@Ground-Effect WEEELL i m more than half way to do yet is wings/cuting sowing .canard . rudders 2 .. wing tips/end plates . i may be in the water half way through summer .
That was a cool video
Thanks!
Hope you answer this. I read where you had somewhat of a bad experience. I'm really sorry to hear that happened. I would like to ask if I may what happened to cause a mechanical failure. Did the wing strut let go or did the fabric collapse from a top side down draft. Might be a good idea to put some loading inside the cockpit on the walls and alike. Hard surfaces hurt when you hit them. I worked for a Aero-light company and we made fabric wings and tedlar skinnen wings
Hi Ray. The elevator cable snapped so I lost all pitch control. Larger cables and dual cables have fixed the issue now
What's the engine, how many hp? Whats the crash stop distance, in case you need to stop immediately? Guess it halts fast once you pull the throttle?
120hp, about 50-100m
Is there plans for sale to build one
Sadly not at the moment
@@Ground-EffectAny help on hull,??? At least to get me started building. Mechanical Engineer retired
So cool! What is the highest altitude above the water you've ever flown or is capable of?
I've been to about 20m but 2m is the sweet spot
Genius build! Would sure like to know what kind of speed this can attain? And what speed does it need to lift out of the water?
Thanks mate. It lifts off at 60kph. Max is 120kph
@@Ground-Effect Fuel burn rate.???
Very cool; and an amazing build. How fast will this thing fly at and what kind of height could it attain?
Great Thanks.
Beutifull craft ,love wathing your videos. Just wonder, hove do you keep it stabile since you have no ailerons like Ordinary aircraft?
Thanks mate. I use the secondary effect of yaw which is roll. So only rudder control
