Trans-Galactic Express Trains
Добавлен 24 июн 2015
Hello! I am a railfan who captures trains from various places around New England, primarily along the CSX Portland Subdivision. I am also an electronic music composer and producer. I've got a few of my tracks uploaded here, and you can find links to my music pages as well. On my channel, however, you’ll find mostly train videos, as well as several SketchUp animations from ages past (perhaps I’ll make more sometime in the future). I've been uploading fairly regularly as I have loads of footage stockpiled over the last year, but once that runs out, the videos probably won't come as often as they used to.
New Year Special! My Best Railroad Catches of 2024
In this video are some of the most interesting trains I've caught over the course of 2024. It's hard to believe it's already 2025, I remember the beginning of 2024 like it was yesterday.
Regardless, enjoy, and Happy New Year!

Another Great Day in Ayer, MA! Berkshire & Eastern District 3 Action on October 14th, 2024
Просмотров 120Месяц назад
It was another wonderful day by the eastern terminus of the Berkshire & Eastern District 3. I got word of there being a second grain train of the month, led by all BERX power. While the foreign power was nice to see for a while, I hadn't had a chance to see a lot of the Dash 8s working around the system. Most of the engines on this train were ex. Pan Am Railways, but it was still a unique sight...
The Most Trains I've Ever Seen in Ayer! Railfanning B&E District 3 on October 3rd, 2024 AD
Просмотров 155Месяц назад
It started when I heard that 46A was on its way to Ayer, MA on Sunday, September 29th. When I saw the post, the engine that everybody was going nuts over was BNSF 9776, an ex. Burlington Northern SD70MAC painted in BN Executive colors, also known as "Grinstein Green". I decided to take the next Thursday off to hopefully catch when it became 47A for its westbound trip. However, this trip turned ...
MBTA 1129 visits the Fitchburg Line! October 3rd, 2024
Просмотров 1032 месяца назад
Here are a few shots of the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA)'s new heritage unit, 1129! This locomotive is a GP40MC, which is an AMF rebuild of GP40-2L locomotives. These locomotives were rebuilt again and designated GP40MC-3, and 1129 was given a maroon and gray with gold pinstriping, a scheme worn on MBTA's early fleet of ex. GM&O EMD F3 locomotives. This was just one of many...
CSX L063 Hauls Relay Rail to Portsmouth, NH on October 28th, 2024
Просмотров 3542 месяца назад
The Portsmouth local once again brought another welded rail train to the namesake branch on the morning of October 28th, 2024. The rail loaded is 120 lb/yard relay rail which came off of the Chesapeake & Ohio railway. This is the third shipment of rail to the branch thus far, and appears to be the last. This video was captured at the crossing on Eileen Dondero Foley Ave. in Portsmouth, NH. The ...
CSX L063 Delivers Nuclear Waste Cars to the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard on October 15th, 2024

It's been three years since I've seen this train, and once again it has made its appearance in my hometown. CSX train L063 (Formerly known as Pan Am Railways DO-1), a local freight job which works the industries along the Piscataqua River in Portsmouth and Newington, NH, delivered the cars on the PNSY branch. Locomotives MEC 503 and 515, a GP40-2L and GP40-2W respectively, headed the train, wit...
Seashore Trolley Museum Visit on September 29th, 2024
Просмотров 602 месяца назад
It was a quiet Sunday afternoon when I decided to visit the Seashore Trolley Museum in Kennebunkport, ME. It was a pretty normal day there with two Connecticut trolleys doing rounds on the stretch of track once owned by the Atlantic Shore Line Railway. Since this trip was rather spontaneous, I didn't take much advantage of the filming and photography opportunities I had there (which is why this...
Some Trains on the Portland Subdivision September 2024
Просмотров 1753 месяца назад
I thought I'd still be doing this like I did earlier this year, but with trains coming at all the wrong times for me to catch them, I don't see a point in going trackside locally anymore. You might see the occasional M426 from me here and there, but my patience for this railfanning hobby has been depleted (and I have other responsibilities). Regardless of all that, I did manage to see a couple ...
A Quiet Day in Ayer on September 22nd, 2024
Просмотров 773 месяца назад
This trip to Ayer was rather unplanned. I didn't catch anything particularly good that weekend I hoped to at least catch M426 and B101, but I saw neither of those trains. To start, I got to Ayer at about 1:00 in the afternoon where I caught a couple of commuter trains. I got word that M426 got permission to go to Still River from Worcester. Since nothing was going on at the north end of Hill Ya...
Pan Am Power on CSX Trains on June 14th 2024

This footage should've made it into my June 2024 video but somehow didn't. This was another couple of shots I grabbed from around Rockingham County on the former Pan Am Railways District 2. Immediately after work, I went to Portsmouth to catch the train there. Then later that night I went to Dover to catch a meet of two freights. Trains caught: 0:04 CSX L063 (Former DO-1) with MEC 504 (GMDD GP4...
Track Speeders on the Cotton Valley Rail Trail "Railfan Style", September 14th, 2024
Просмотров 933 месяца назад
I decided to do something different that weekend. My friend has a railroad track speeder and he invited me to ride at the Cotton Valley Rail Trail. He also informed me that they were doing an open house and other people would be running their cars as well. I have to say, the Cotton Valley Rail Trail is one of the coolest trails and events I've seen yet. They did a total of three runs to the end...
Some CSX Freight Action on the Portland Subdivision, August 2024
Просмотров 2023 месяца назад
I'm gonna lay it straight, I liked it better when the trains ran in the evening. CSX started running M426 and M427 in the daylight hours again following the commencement of construction on the Wells siding extension, essentially turning the clock back to 2022 when trains ran in the middle of the day (with the only exception of L080 basically replacing former EDPO/POED). But because I have a job...
More Trains on the CSAO Lehigh Line in Union, NJ on August 15th, 2024

The second time I went to Union, I met with @V_Negroponte for some more CSAO Lehigh Line action, with many of CSX and Norfolk Southern trains. It was pretty busy in mid morning and late afternoon, but in the middle of the day the action was pretty dead. (I see all these other railfans get tons of action on this line, what day of the week should I have gone?) I would've stayed on the platform fo...
Big Railroad Action on the CSAO Lehigh Line at Union, NJ on August 14th, 2024

While I was staying in New Jersey, I decided to take a couple trips to Union NJ for some big freight train action. The CSAO (Conrail Shared Assets Operations) line runs between Croxton and Manville, and is used by both CSX and Norfolk Southern. NJ Transit's Raritan Valley Line service shares the tracks with CSX and Norfolk Southern from Valley Bridge in Newark to Aldene in Roselle. Freight Trai...
Random NJ Transit and Amtrak Shots from My August 2024 Trip to New Jersey

A compilation of random, miscellaneous videos from my trip to New Jersey during the week of August 12th, 2024. I figured I would lump all these videos into one since I didn't spend very much time at any of these locations at one time (with the exceptions of the two nights I got stranded at Secaucus Junction). Speaking of that, my first trip after work, I decided to take the train back home to S...

best tacos in the area right there!
Those are dummies.. Not the real thing
Is the containment bit in the middle part of the car or does that whole pill come out of there? also, I bet they don't need to clean the snow off the full ones in the winter with that many cooling fins on there lol
That feeling when knee surgery is tomorrow.
What?? You're too young for knee surgery Jokes aside, I hope all goes well
I've wanted to see the Sarah Long bridge in the rail travel position. It's unique because the tracks are on the same deck that vehicles travel over. Transporting by rail into the shipyard is to my knowledge the only time that the automotive deck goes down to track level.
Glad we don't have those come around where I live. I don't give a damn how safe they claim they are. Surprised they even let you get that close.
moron walking between rails in front of the move
I've seen the Portsmouth Ship Yard , it is an island , wondering how they get these railcars on the island
There are tracks across the Gate 1 bridge.
6:34 What is the light gray thing between the couplers (bottom right of the screen)?
I believe those are empties for the spent reactors that are to be removed from the ships. The reason I say that is that there is a very special car missing that carries armed security personnel when nuclear fuel is present and being moved.
I thought pan am was bought out by CSX.
It was. CSX still uses Pan Am's former locomotives on former Pan Am trackage for the time being.
HELL YEAH ❗️❗️❗️❗️❗️❗️❗️
That Mexican place is not bad.
One hell of a day.
Good ol’ Pan Am Railways 🥲
A very, very interesting catch,I'd like to see this in action one day,Thanks for sharing this with the audience.
How many rods go into a ship and submarine !
Sorry that is classified.
How do they get the containers off the island where the yard is? I see 2 bridges but no rail tracks
There is a sub level to the Walker St. bridge that is all rail.
Are the thin fins along the radius of the flasks to radiate heat from the tasty radioactive innards?
believe it or not, the fins are structural in nature.
The fins serve three purposes. They remove heat, support the weight of the container, and deform to absorb energy in an accident.
With the number of people involved, you can sure tell it is a "GOVERMENT" job.
4:09: Since when do hi-rail locotractors have bells?
@@El_Transportacoches_33 Safety!
@trans-galactic-express Yeah, I know It. But is very strange that European style hi-rail locotractors are beginning solding in USA.
Very cool! Phenomenal catch! Glad i found this station. I'll be watching more.
Atomic Express
I noticed the freight engines had Pan Am logos. 😊
@@raymondmartin6737 Indeed they were Pan Am engines. It’s only a matter of time before CSX replaces them
I was stationed at Pease Air Force Base, Portsmouth, NH, 1969 to 1974, so I have been to the Naval Shipyard, over towards Kittery, ME in those years. Thanks. 😅
My special needs son really likes speeders and is glad that even though it is called the Cotton Valley Rail Trail the rails are still intact and the trail is in certain places beside them and not over them.
Nice catch! DODX 38886 was last seen in Kittery in February 2024. DODX 38884 I have not seen before. Do you know when the two locos and the CH returned to Portsmouth? A few hours later?
@@JM603 Thanks! The rest of the consist went back across the bridge pretty shortly after dropping the cask cars.
@@trans-galactic-express Thanks. Am sorry I missed it. Were there a lot of people out to see it?
@@JM603 There were a few, I only saw one or two guys with cameras.
@ glad you were one of the few as your video is awesome!
Woah
Now when the nuclear waste cars are full, with high level security attached to it, is when were waiting on some jack leg Darwin Award winner to decide to turn off the crossing down onto the tracks to hit the nuclear waste cars lol.
My hometown too!
GOOD""$TUFF"""100%%%
Interesting train and very nice video. New subscriber. Greetings. Stefano
🎥👍👍👍👍🙋♂
@6:29 was that a painted smiley face? If so who or how did someone get that close to put that on?
Liked and subbed
Thankfully not Norfolk Southern.
Shame the Boss “driver” didn’t use proper crossing signals.
dammit! i really wanted to hump that railcar.
Nice catch of what i imagine is a pretty rare shunting vehicle
Where did those cars come from?
Idaho National Labs. That's where spent naval cores go for reprocessing.
Chernobyl............Coming in Hot!
PLEASE, Don't let the "loonies" know about this !!! Can see the protesters now !!
Pretty sure it’s well known
The Liberal tree hugging Kamala Harris voting Dimocrats from Maine, NH, MA, RI, CT, NY, MN, CA, etc. Theyre all coming
What's up with the utility poles in the background at the beginning of the video?
Even with being grown then treated for use as utility poles, sometimes they warp over time. Probably is a result of repeated wet/dry and cold/warm cycles plus the stress forces on the pole. Missouri is a different latitude from New Hampshire but we have a few old wooden utility poles like that here in our town.
I don't think there's any fuel in those M130 cars...otherwise there'd be security at the back of the train. Very cool catch though.
You're right, these were empties. They will be loaded with spent fuel rods in the Shipyard.
Correct. And when they get hauled out loaded they will have high level security!
Those are M-140s.
Sweet awesome catch
There's always a buffer car on H.M. trains
at 4:43, white device in coupler, a coupler spacer? and why is it being used?
No idea. They removed it before coupling onto the cars for the shove as can be seen at 6:44.
Did the voice at 5:45 really say, "Let me know, you've got six good toes."🤔❓
Certainly sounds like it 🤣
son of a gun. I aint never seen such a thing.
Interesting little critter from the navy
