    Hello, in your video it says that OSAP grants and school scholarships are usually exempt from tax for full time students. 1. So does this mean we don't enter OSAP grants/Scholarship amounts at all when filing taxes? Or we enter the info from the T4A for these along with the T2202, but it shouldn’t generate any taxes owed? 2. If the the combination of OSAP grant, entrance scholarships, and EAP funds taken from an RESP exceed the amount of what the tuition cost - would the OSAP grant/Scholarships still not be taxed and/or not factored in? 3. Would only the EAP portion be calculated for the purpose of determining if a student would pay any taxes? I'll be filing the taxes myself (no accountant) so a little clarity on this part would be very helpful! Thanks!

    Hi Steph, It would be great if you could ans follow, i am super confused: 1. I did my study from ontario. My assessment notice say i have 32,393 federal tuition edu and txt book amounts. Why is there no mention of Ontario amount? I had filed from accountant. Did he miss anything? 2. In T1213, what is to be mentioned in salary ? - biweekly or yearly salary? - current year (the year dated on form) or previous year? I believe its current year as i will be getting tax credit on current salary. Still confirming. 3. They have just mentioned attach supporting documents. However there's no mention of exact documents. The have provided link..but there too no mention of documents specifically required for tution tax credits. It just says in general that submit T4 (again since i am filing for this year, i dnt have this years t4, only previous years) 4. They have given you can submit online as well as offline. But online doesn't give option for tution tax credit related submissions. So can you explain how to submit offline ? your video end on just filling. No info on how and where to submit.

    • @BreakingBadDebt
      @BreakingBadDebt 29 дней назад

      Hi Rohit, I would first double check with your accountant if you have any questions as they did your tax filing and you're paying them for your services. I'll try my best to answer your questions though I'm not an accountant. 1. I would double check your NOA, it should indicate both the federal and provincial amounts especially if you got OSAP. 2. For me when I filled the T1213 - I put my total year's salary as I was just starting the job and didn't know the exact biweekly amount. Since I was new to the job, I put current year as in the previous year I was still a student and didn't have a salary. 3. I don't recall attaching supporting documents but I would check with your accountant what documents specifically they require. 4. I submitted the T1213 to my work's payroll department but at the bottom of the form it tells you where to mail or submit online.

    Super interesting, thank you. I've watched this as someone living in BC and believe in this province there were changes to the family act in 2013 that enable division of property in common law relationships, meaning you do need a cohabitation agreement to steer clear of this. At least that's my understanding. I would really really stress that this advice is province-specific to Ontario.

    WHERE DO I SEND IT

      Is your question where do you send your tax return? It would be to the CRA - they have the options for submitting your personal tax return here: www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/services/tax/individuals/topics/about-your-tax-return/tax-return/sending-a-tax-return.html

    This is a great Video and Advice. Couple of questions if you can please assist with: Wife makes 100k/Year T4 Full Time Employee Husband Makes 200k/Year T4 Full Time Employee as well. If husband employees wife for lets say 40k/year. What will be the tax savings for this? There is no corporation no business and what are the other ways other than employing the partner for income splitting? Both are 35 years old no Kid Can it be done for previous years? Considering Spousal RRSP or Investment Loan is not an option. Will really appreciate your response on this. And also How can this be done what are the formalities needed to be done for this? Thanks in advance

      I would definitely check with an accountant about this if not income splitting through a spousal RRSP. What will your wife be doing if she's employed by you for $40K/year if there's no business? If there was a sole proprietorship or side business outside of your salaried job, you might employ your wife as a contractor....but if you get audited, you have to have justification for the pay to your wife.

    Hello Dr.Steph. Thanks for sharing this information with us. It really helped me understand the basics. I have a question though. This is my last term at the university, it ends in June. I was unemployed in 2023. I wanted to file for tuition tax credits. I paid about $25000 last year. How can I use the tax credit now? I am almost done studying at this university. Also, I will be studying at a different college from September. Please tell me how to claim a tuition tax credit for 2023. Thank you. Have a wonderful day.

    What if I pay all my loans just after graduation within 6 months?

      If you have the income to pay off your loans, that's great! Just note your federal loans are presently interest free.

    Hi Steph, Is the transit pass that I paid for commuting from and to my workplace qualify to deduct my taxes. The pass was provided by my university and was was in fess. It was at a rate lower than the regular price. For example- Bus pass in HRM was 82.5 a month. But I paid around 190 dollars for 8 the 8 month period when I was a student.

      Hey, there used to be a public transit tax credit but it was eliminated based on Budget 2017 (Source: www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/programs/about-canada-revenue-agency-cra/federal-government-budgets/budget-2017-building-a-strong-middle-class/public-transit-tax-credit.html). I would check with your accountant as transportation costs from home to work wouldn't count but from workplace 1 to workplace 2 can be tax deductible.

    Dear Dr Steph: What is the appropriate billing code for a meet and greet? What do you think should be required for a meet and greet consultation? Thank you kindly, Par (new family physician in Ontario, previous practice as a GP in Australia)

      @BreakingBadDebt 3 месяца назад

      Welcome to Ontario! For M&G there are 2 codes I’ve seen being billed: A007 or K131 (or any of the preventative visit billing codes). Usually I will discuss the clinic policies, hours and fill in the CPP. Sometimes if the patient has a fairly extensive history and I end up taking a past med hx, social hx and do a comprehensive physical exam, I will bill a K131/2 + Q200 to roster them.

      @@BreakingBadDebt, I'm very grateful for your reply. Do you also see the K013 item number used for meet-and-greets? I note these require a diagnostic code, so I wonder how much time must go into specific health education as opposed to clinic policy, my background, and how I practice medicine, so I could justify the billing.

      @BreakingBadDebt 2 месяца назад

      @@pardogg Hey, I personally don't bill K013 for M&Gs because you're only limited to 3 of these / pt/year so I prefer to save them for when I actually need to counsel the pt on something. As you identified, the K013 is a counselling code for a pre-booked appt where the reason for counselling is identified with the booking (i.e. a prebooked appt to talk about obesity).

    Can you guys do a video on high yield CC ETF's? Many of us might be in the same boat, where we have worked hard, saved money, and now have considerable capital that we plan to use to retire on and are looking for investment vehicles to park that money in. In comes high yield CC ETF's (covered call) from the likes of Hamilton, Horizon, Harvest etc. With many of them paying yields north of 12% (some higher than 16%) they seem too good to be true. I understand that one of the reasons they can pay such high distributions is b/c of the options writing strategies they use to generate income, but still it seems too good to be true.
