Hi, thank you so much for your videos they bring back so many happy memories of the many time I visited the IOM. I stayed at a Christian Endeavor holiday home in Castletown on my visits, but I am told this is now a private residence. Loved to walk to Langness, Castle Rushen and Laxey Glen. Hope you can get there sometime thank you and God bless.
Thanks for sharing those memories, I'm always looking for new walks to explore!
Really enjoyable walk with you. Waterfalls are one of my absolute favourite bits around the island. It did look very sloppy and you paid the price in the end on the walk back. Think we visited the cafe above before and didn't realise quite the delights below. There's something rather special about watching your videos on Sundays.
Many thanks! I’ll keep trying for at least one a week. Sadly the cafe above hasn’t been open since we’ve been here (at least I don’t think so).
Hi Simon. I’m a new follower to your channel and really enjoy the walks. I am a regular visitor to the island particularly Port Erin and I really enjoyed your last video from there. One of the best walks is upto Milner tower up on Bradda Head. Look forward to seeing your future ventures around the beautiful Isle of Man.
Welcome aboard! Milner’s Tower is definitely on the list. Want to do part of the Raad ny Foillan so will have to pass it I guess!
hi simon, from the uk,, niarbyl is a fav place of mine,, i enjoyed the walk,,
Thank you! Hope you’ll join me on some more!
hi simon very interesting walk good to see coast walk to white beach and lover place great to old places great to see lobster pots ther walk from Douglas to peel old railway walk ther interesting old places long way and and ther walk from Douglas to old fairy glen bridge great walk great video old fair glen bridge
Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for watching again.
Do you have a favourite place to visit on the Isle of Man? I keep finding new favourites every time I go to a new place!!😂
i walked thru the Silverdale Glen when i was visiting friends on the IOM, who lived in an old restaurated small farm house in Ballasalla. I just had to walk down the street and then i was there. I took a long walk, very calm and meditative it was.
I think the sound of the water can be very calming. It’s never too busy either.
We enjoyed watching your walk around Peel as a family this afternoon. Had never seen the cathedral in Peel, nor much of the beach, know the Quay area mostly so it was great to see
Thanks Kevin. There’s always plenty to see in the big towns. Peels is quite large and I’m still discovering new places there myself. I do love the cathedral and now it’s fully reopened I might get permission to fly the drone inside and out which should be fun!
Subscribed 🤟🤟
Thank you!
Batten down the hatches, the storms are coming! Great video Simon. I’ve been kept updated on the situation from my good friends in Peel. Cheers Craig from Perth, Australia
I hope they have faired better than us! We ended up with two neighbours trees in our back garden which also took out a fence and some guttering. All safe though and we should end up with a good stock of firewood! 😂
It was fun going live for a change! Hope everyone has stayed safe and not had too much damage to property. Back home now with a nice mug of coffee. ☕️
Thank you for your little video on the beautiful lsle of man, this place will have a special place in my heart.❤😊
@@JeanineBenford-ug6lz It really is a special place. What are your links to the IoM if you don’t mind me asking?
Yes , sure. My family once lived on lsle of man , in malew St, Castletown and my eldest brother was born there but all our family are now in Australia. My husband and l visited close relatives for a week in 2017 just in time to see the famous TT race. For me the isle just felt like coming home in a strange way , our relatives made us so welcome . It’s almost enchanting and very beautiful place, maybe we will visit once more if we are lucky, Thank you cheers from Australia ❤
Hi Simon , you are doing a great job of learning how to fly your drone, you gave us a great view of Port Erin. I see you have got a few suggestions of where to walk but can I add some as well :-D How about walking the other way in Silverdale down towards Monks Bridge. You can get the train to Port Soderick and walk down to the beach , met the lads at Help for Heroes as they will give you a cuppa and biscuit. If you feel brave from there walk up to Marine Drive and walk to Douglas. My daughter and I did that last summer , we both happy that we achieved that walk :-D. You should get some great footage on the walk. Finally walk to Fort Island , while you cannot fly your drone there, you get some great views there.
Many thanks Simon, great video. The coastal walk from the Sound cafe to Port Erin is spectacular, great views and a relaxing walk. A drone video would look awesome. Cheers Craig
I am waiting for some better weather for that path but I'm going to try and do the walk from Castletown to Port Erin on the Raad ny Foillan at some point. For longer walks I'm think either I'll need to edit them down or split them into parts. Castletown to Port St. Mary, PSM to The Sound, The Sound to Port Erin maybe?
A very enjoyable walk, talk and fly thank you Simon. I kept thinking when are you going to mention the brilliant Bridge Bookshop and you clearly love it as much as we do, saw more of Port Erin than we have done on foot, the drone hovering above your head to show lack of bald patches made us chuckle 😂. Love to see you walk around Laxey and maybe bump into Earl the famous feline resident... a belated Happy Birthday too. Enjoyed your inland walks too but all about the coast for me, at least you are never far from it on the island
Bald patches! 😂 Laxey would be great. I love the walk under the bridge to the woollen mill. Lot’s of parts to it though. The wheel, the town, the beach. Maybe a three parter?
@IsleofManVicar Sounds a great idea when you get the time
hi simon how u keeping and the Drome is great port irin great place visit am from llandudno north wales were have great orme were goats came from u shound visit manx museum in Douglas great place and ther museum in peel ther all free and interesting make great video good see got 100 subscribe
Thanks Jason. I’ll have to check they allow filming in the museums but it’s a great idea. I haven’t been to them yet. Seems funny because we’ve been here nearly 18 months but there is so much to see and places we already love going back to.
I remember when we were younger the carousel seemed massive! You’d jump on while it was going or run round it while it was moving and get kicked by the horses if you weren’t fast enough! Nowadays health and safety has put a fixed floor on it that moves with the horses so the kids can’t have as much fun as we did!!
Ahh, the olden days when you used to always see kids and mates with broken arms. No adventures these days!
Nice relaxing video Simon. I keep meaning to ask what camera does Tasha use? Silverdale is glorious in the summer, notwithstanding the ice-cream..!! I remember going there in the late 50's on a Sunday School picnic. Someone, not me, ended up in the lake..!!
She's got a Canon 250D. It has some marks on the viewfinder which don't affect the pictures but does bother her a bit. We took it to the place you recommended and had it cleaned but they can't take it apart to clean the marks off. Apart from that it's pretty good.
Castletown looks nice with tree and lights looks nice great small town
It is, they got them all working in the end. The lights around the harbour are always there which makes for some lovely summer evening strolls.
Brandden cemetery
@@sarahg7951 I’ll add to the list! Thank you.
Castle rushen
@@sarahg7951 Should be easy as I live right nearby but I haven’t been in yet! Probably about time I did.
@IsleofManVicar one of my ancestors spent some time there... anne bengaff, quite notorious
@@sarahg7951 See, now you are going to make me Google them! Hope it's not too scandalous!
There is a derelict building on the forest edge at the rear of the reservoir. In the summer you can pick wild raspberries which are small but intensely flavoured.
I didn’t notice that. I’ll have a look next time I’m there.
Where is your special place to walk and explore?
As always, let me know where you think I should visit on the Isle of Man and ask questions about what it's like moving here.
For a first flight Simon, that was pretty good. You can't fault DJI at all. Another excellent video.
Thank you!
A really good hour or so walk and chat without me getting out of my chair
Glad you enjoyed it. Thank you.
That was lovely, I think everyone worries about change, but it is important to not lose the heart of the town. We got to see our accomodation on this excellent video next to the old Police Station very much looking forward to Easter, and maybe a bit of fibre broadband too!! Really like the look of the Castle Arms at night but just seen that it's known as the glue pot thought that was another one, very confused now!
Really good to see Castletown and it's friendly locals, was quite surprised by the number of shops and places to eat, albeit sadly quite a bit closed too. We are staying there for Easter 2025 and really pleased we chose Castletown for a change from Douglas where we usually stay. Hopefully I can see more around the Quay near castle on your older videos, thank you and Happy New Year
@@kevinseymour8793 There are some empty shops but the retail business is tough everywhere at the moment, especially for independents. But there is a new Indian Restaurant just opened, a new barber. Hopefully we’ll see some more too. Glad you are staying in Castletown. It really is a great spot to stop. I’ll be doing some more videos over the next couple of weeks as I have some holiday.
@EllanVanninVicar will look forward to those then, thank you. There really are some superb independent eateries and retail shops on the island long may they continue
loooks great
Thank you!
Welcome back Simon, great video. Merry Christmas to you and the family
Thank you, Merry Christmas to you too!
Awesome 🙌

You should explain to me I thought only Catholic Church had priest, don't like C of E having priest.
@@dennislowe7316 I am an ordained priest in the Church of England. I was ordained by the now retired Bishop James Langstaff and can trace apostolic succession to quite early in church history (no church is able to trace back to the original apostles). Many churches use the term priest (from the Latin via Greek presbyter) including the Catholic Church, Eastern Orthodoxy, Anglicanism, Oriental Orthodoxy, the Church of the East, and some branches of Lutheranism. The Roman Catholic is just one denomination which uses the title. It may have been a bit lost in how your comment is phrased, but the simple answer is just because you don’t like something, doesn’t make it not so. I am absolutely a priest.
@@IsleofManVicar your high church then.
@@dennislowe7316 No. I understand church history, theology and ecclesiology amongst other related subjects because I have studied. I would describe myself as “broad church”. For example the two churches in my parish, one is at the higher end but certainly not Anglo-catholic and the other is loosely Evangelical. Very similar traditions in many ways but quite different in style of worship. I am comfortable in both which is useful these days. The CofE is a broad church.
Lovely video. Can't wait to catch more streams when you're not terribly busy ;D
