I've ran into situations like this during my travels however not by plane but by boat. The boat itself was actually owned by relatives of the hooters franchise. Needless to say this was a large motor yacht. Our intention was to go from the keys to around destin Florida. However we got caught in a horrible storm and our communication and GPS got taken down. We wound up in playa del Carmen Mexico with no passport and no clue where we were. They were going to arrest all of us and search the ship for drugs. Which since it was a bunch of early 20s something kids there could have been god knows what on board. Luckily we got out of there and bought a cheap nav system to get us home. Needless to say officials are terrible. Especially tribal dudes. I'd have just came out there at night and left. Screw them. Nothing they can do.

I hoped you learned you lesson in dealing with..."some people". The fact that you think that this was an anomaly in dealing with them shows you are still a bit naive. I have relatives in the legal profession who have dealt with them for years and they would find this as "business as usual, not an outlier.

I spent a night in my car near there once in a parking lot, just out of chance as i was driving across the country. Woke up to my locked doors unlocked, tire slashed, and tribal cops telling me to get lost. No doubt if my car wasn't a POS they would have taken it.

About 20 years ago I was riding my new, tricked out Yamaha R1 through a Rez in Arizona. I was doing exactly the speed limit enjoying the cool air early one Sunday. Rez cop decided to light me up for no reason. I'm sure he made a radio call, but I never found out. Drop a gear and disappear. I'm wasn't about to take a chance with their BS. Meanwhile I've stopped for normal city cops when caught doing 92 in a 40.... Rez cops can and will do all kinds of insane shit. If you have any alternative, don't go to or through a reservation. Period.

Sure, this situation is not great but my goodness, a lot of comments here visibly being outwardly hateful toward Native Americans and their tribal lands. You are so far removed from the point to think it's all about you, you, you, me, me, me. Do any of you have the slightest bit of understanding how these reservations came to be? There is no need to be so cruel towards anybody. If you are so out of touch to enter a rez without doing your own research for even just 2 minutes, that's on you.

I live 30 minutes outside of the tribal lands you are dealing with. I have the ability to cross through the rez to go places, but I take the long way around to avoid those idiots at all costs. It's like a weird dystopian wasteland. Good luck trying to get a straight answer on who and what they actually have jurisdiction over, even when you contact the state police and Mohave county sheriff, the answers about jurisdiction and state roads that run through the reservation are extremely vague and unclear.

I drove a friend to her rez so she could make funeral arrangements for her brother and when we got there, she left me alone in a room with her family, who promptly surrounded me and asked "how does it feel, being the only white person around, knowing no one can help you?" It wasn't the first time i was hassled for appearing white on a rez. I no longer go anywhere near one.
