after using it for a while i made some conclusions, some are not a problem, some are, you may judge yourself if this meter is worth the money or not. i am planning a third vid which will contain the info of the first two(rather hastily made) videos, bk precision asked in an email about my experience with the aftersales dep, i did send them my unsalted opinion, havent heard from them since....

It took me a while to figure it out but apparently if you disable the squelch the FM broadcast function under the orange "call" button stops working all together. I wonder what more hidden "features" are hiding under the bonnet of this otherwise fantastic little radio....

Tja, wat moet je er meer van zeggen, die dingen zijn geniaal. Niet te verwarren met de eigen merk shit van de AH(profesionele kwaliteit ;-( )en andere supers die in eenzelfde soort verpakking zitten en er ook op lijken maar in de verste verte hetr niet halen bij deze geweldige snack

A very good review off the bk880. You mentioned that DCR is measured with square wave ac, is that also with the same frequency as the other measurements?
SO!!!!! I was concerned about the battery issue, so after being in storage for 6 months, I got it out and turned it on. The battery was still good, showed full charge, so the idea of it only lasting a few weeks was not the case. My meter is only a year old, so maybe the battery has been upgraded since your video is 2 years old???? I always give it a full charge before I store it away, but now that Summer is over it will be left out as I will use it several times a week as I repair some electronics.. Robert Update, I decide to go check current flow in standby using my Fluke 289 meter. 9.98UA so that tells us why the battery drain was so low after 6 months in storage...

My UV5RPRO arrived and Call Button did not switch radio into FM. Button was fine. Squelch was at 5 so there has to be another setting besides Squelch. After a 'Reset All' my CALL button switched into FM mode with no problems and cleared the factory nonsense settings/frequencies. Try a reset if sq isnt the issue.

Thank you for posting this video, it was really helpful! I was about to buy the BK 880, but after watching this video I got second thoughts. I won't use the meter on a daily basis either so having to deal with the battery problem didn't seem like something I wanted to put up with if I could avoid it. I ended up with a Keysight U1733C. It's no secret that despite their similar look those meters are complety different. And Agilent/Keysight chose a different approach: The power button is a latching type. This doesn't necessarily mean 0µA off-current and I haven't measured it yet, but it looks promising... The Keysight doesn't have 4-wire measurement capability, the test voltage is fixed and some specs are a littler bit worse, but for my use cases it seems plenty capable. Also: My first Keysight product. The orange color is nice ;)
I have the same BK 880 LCR meter that I purchased this week. The current draw on the battery when the device is OFF is 65 uA. So the claim of 11 uA is marketing BS.
The calibration needs to be done as two steps. You only ended up calibrating on short. You have to terminate open cal by hitting the cal button while open.
Reload firmware fixed mine...

hello there, baofeng UV9R Pro ... same situation like in this video.. when I received it, FM radio work normally, finding station - no problem (it was evening so I just play a little and go to sleep) Morning when I turn on baofeng it hasn't got fm radio no more :( I think it could be some software lock or even simpler TRICK like above when the SQL and the radio somehow lock radio when sql is 0 ? (if I correctly understand?) it's kinda weird because people use sql hmmm... I checked this sql settings in my uv9r pro and when sql is 0 then I am unable to turn radio on like above (button not work), but if change to SQL 1 or more then again the buttons work, changing to fm radio,,, BUT it is not working ... you can choose 65-76 or 76-108 and scan or set manually but you won't hear anything and when press scan it will do it forever. Having FM RADIO which you can't use but you know that there it is .....is very annoying you got radio with capabilities which you can't access and this LAW they writing about ..?.. I never heard ... anybody know about it? How stupid is blocking FM radio ? What is the reason for doing it? Is it really UK law about this subject ???? Anyway because it was working then must be a way to unlock it ...
The way to find out if you did something wrong is to do a factory reset, somewhere in the menu there is the option to "reset to factory default" , if the radio works again it is something you did why it stopped working, just like i discovered on my uv5r, i did factory reste and radio works again and then figured out what it was, in my case squelch to 0 blocks fm radio. These radios are fantastic value for money but do have some problems in software/firmware.
Fm radio does not work in ireland too. Very disappointing to say the least.

I came across a comment who had said because of covid lockdown China cut down on production and the chip that normally works for the fm radio was permanently removed on many devices. They couldn’t get the parts. Apparently it appears to be a problem in the UK and Ireland only,
@@theirishoutdoorcook1207 Im in the USA and just bought one and the FM radio doesn't work no matter what combination of settings I try... you are more than likely correct! that would explain why the price dropped significantly!!
I bought a Baofeng UV-9R PRO in March 2022. I managed to get it working, but the FM radio broadcast stations wouldn't work. I tried the squelch adjustment but it didn't do a thing. After a bit of research I saw the same broken English notice on a couple seller websites that due to some sort of regulations, FM reception was removed as of January 1, 2022. Apparently this change was made for several different models. I don't quite know which ones. I was able to enter 162.400 Mhz and could pick up the weather station, so I know the unit was not faulty. I couldn't program it with the CHIRP software because the cable wasn't sent with the package. I've ordered a cable with an FTDI chip in it which is apparently the only type that works properly. The Baofeng brand programming cables with the (clone) PL2303 chip apparently don't work, or don't work properly. Anyway, getting FM radio on Baofeng may now be a thing of the past.
Ahw, 😢, thats a pity, as i understood the range of the radios is also now limited, where mine can go step less all the way through the band the new ones have limited band range. I guess i am lucky with my two still completely unlimited ones, unfortunately one has developed a bad ptt switch but i think it is fixable. Thanks for sharing 👍🏻
Hello Trevor, i just got my Uv9rpro, i found the trouble of this uv9r is weak on receiving VHF audio, where when i compares with my other HT this uv9rpro really lack on receiving audio especially when im driving, and the uv9rpro in my car it will not receive any active repeater, where my other radio and HT received. When u said "i managed to get it working". Did u find any solution about its weak signal receiving?
I figured out a solution! You need to have your radio on channel mode for FM to work. Hope it helps!!

I have same one and i don't agree with you. Because if you know that it is the case you usually don't leave it offline not used at all. If you are real electronic person then you usually using it on weekly basis ..even if it isn't daily..once per week for sure..but ofc i don't have it off for months..i don't see any reason for that..it isn't that kind of meter. For that you need different meter
The battery draw on standby is just not of this world and certainly not for a fairly expensive meter, mind you there are lcr meters at half the price doing the same thing as i learned from a friend who bought a different one, and that one doesnt leak batteries completely dead within 1 week, its just ridiculous and something is clearly not right with this meter however according to BK precision there is nothing wrong with it and the standby current draw over 20 times more then specified, these people are jokers and just do not want the hassle of an european guy far far away, thats american customer service for you all out.

@@EnigmaVideos i am afraid you dont understand: there is something wrong with this meter, the standby current draw is specified in the specifications at 11 micro amp, my meter does now 873 micro amp, so 0,9 milliamp Thats 80 EIGHTY times more then specified (!!!), the standby draw is just ridiculous and there is obviously something broken in this meter from day1. At that rate the fully charged battery lasts just a few days before it is COMPLETELY DEAD. there is something in the power circuit leaking, i suspect one of the mosfets but as bk doesnt want to repair and also doesnt want me to have a schematic there is little i can do besides one of these days drill a hole in the case and fit a mechanical switch or just toss it on ebay one of these days and get rid of it and never buy BK PRECISION again. Taking out the batteries every time after use is a stupid solution, did i tell you i paid over €500 for this piece of junk? I may use this meter repairing a radio or tranceiver for a few weeks but then if i dont have that particular type of work it may be in the closet for a weeks, on of these days i will find it with leaking batteries inside and i can through it away, just like happens with all equipment that eats batteries in standby/off. I will make another video soon about this piece of junk and it will remain on youtube until bk solves the problem, if not it will be here forever, its there loss not mine, i will get rid of it but the vid will stay. They have my email, they just have to give me a message telling me where to drop it of for repair.
@@robber576 I think the real LCR meters are the benchtop ones that cost a lot of money. So yes, this one called 880 is naturally not the best model out there. LCR meters are mostly made for manufacturers that have the money to pay for a benchtop model.
@@EnigmaVideos i have no problem with how the meter performs when it works nor do i have a problem with the current consumption when it works, when it works it is mostly al fine and the small problems like no setting for the backlight or the missing "zero out/rel" option is not a big problem, al meters have little things like that and you mostly just have to get used to it, no problem. I like the accuracy of this meter, it can measure really small caps and inductors and quite accurate. There is just something wrong with my meter and american customer service of BK precision is awfull. If i had a schematic i could swap some parts and probably repair it myself but as the oarts have no meaningfull numbers on them i do not know what the parts are and so cannot replace them.
It would be interesting for you to show your set up to do several measurements with your NanoVNA. How do you do with the NanoVNA to measure the ESR?

(..On my previous comment) ..I might been wrong on how to go about measuring with the Bk880, and thereby maybe there was no error on my instrument ...Have always set measurement-frequency to 10 kHz. After reduced it to 1 kHz (for measuring ElLyttic-Caps) it seems to measure much more normal. __I must say, it is a somewhat broad field regarding measuring Ac-reactive components. Constantly learning. __So, lets see (and me hope) for now, whether it was user-error from my side. Have nice upcoming weekend.
When you're measuring large electrolytic capacitors, you really need to set it to either 100Hz or 120Hz to get an accurate reading. This is because a large value capacitor will filter a 100kHz signal down to almost an unmeasurable level.
Thanks for sharing the Bk880 videos Robert. Was conducting some search now for the Bk880 since myself experiencing calibration-issues(unable to successfully calibrate in the meny anymore). It has started to show about 50% 'to low' on capacitance measurements. Still trying to sort it out, but in the meanwhile might have to purchase a second different meter. Not necessary only because of this, but for future work. Did contact BK-support also. And they responded fairly quick. They want me to do a couple of measurement test (according to their attached data-sheet), and send back to them. They noted also that it could be necessary to return the Bk880 for factory calibration. ,,,For now me await a littlebit to do these things. Have noticed it intermittent showing correct value (..very seldom, but it happens) __ //Thanks again for sharing your other findings in your video. __br, from norway.

Well these meters are The best in my book regardless .. I have the 879b and it doenst fail me. Why is it that people who review these meters and or multimeters stick a metal Phillips driver to point it all the meter as you have done to scratch the outer shell and some guys run these drivers through a circuit while the battery is still in the meter pointing out all the components closely and near damaging the meter itself amazes me. This is so stupid spending money on quality equipment and doing that to it. Makes no sense. Good luck to them people.
I agree. Why not use a bamboo skewer when demonstrating the insides of such devices? You can easily color the tip with a marker so that it stands out from the background...
Bk-precision is good meter for measuring capacitor for me and diode transistor for my experience. But for measuring coil inductance. For my opinion we need buy seperate Inductance meter solid One programming is one measurements only. Like inductance ruclips.net/video/vYHtGuWg3d8/видео.html

To clarify more; apparently the 1/4 mark is the set temperature of the coolant thermostat (74 C degrees) ,as long as ambient temperature is lower then 25-30 Celsius the cooling system can keep up with the heat output of the engine and the needle will stay at the 1/4 (74 C degrees) mark. Above 25-30 C the cooling system looses the battle and coolant temperature goes up from the 1/4 mark, of course this all depends also on driving style and isn't as bad as it sounds. It has to get quite hot before a stock SH overheats meaning you will have to stop and let it cool of and fill up the coolant the SH has been a top seller in Thailand were it can be blistering hot and humid. The engine is really bullet proof and can take a lot of abuse provided you will feed it the necessary oil and spare parts.

hello i was just wanting to ask about the temperature gauge on the video of you riding the gauge stays at 1/4 mark does it always stay at that temp while normal riding as my sh125i 2006 does that it stays at the 1/4 mark all the time and stays there consistently unless sat idling for a long time.

When you start your bike, do you instantly start the engine after turning the key? as i see the fuel injection red "FI" light in the middle of your dash, same as on mine, you should wait for that light to go out before starting the engine or it will hate you for it, mine splutters and coughs if i dont wait so i always do.

You wont regret buying it, Yasuni claims 1 HP gain and i asume that is with both db-killers in. Still had no answer from yasuni....
