@@caitlinjanet_ just a quick question - not sure if you’d be able to remember but hoping i could get an idea for the exact date that you were required to be in whistler to secure staff housing and bring training for your ski season employment? i’ve heard early november is generally a rough guide but i kind of want to know exact timings for when at the latest you need to be in whistler. thanks for your help!

@@joshtonkin7684hey! sorry do you mean as in to organise it or have you already been approved for it? If you mean to secure staff housing - you may find it very hard if you wait until November, a lot are filling up already! If you have already been approved, usually you can get into your house a week before your start date, and then training starts in the weeks before open day which is 22nd Nov, but this will vary based on your job! Hey! Congrats on getting housing! I’ve been told there is a gym set up in building 5, but it’s minimal (treadmill and dumbbells). We do have 2 great gyms in town, the Core and Meadow Park Sports Centre. But I probably wouldn’t organise a gym pass till you’ve been here a little. You may find you don’t need gym if you’re riding every day :) let me know if you have any other q’s!

Hey, you've got the best advice! I am planning on moving to Whistler next year, did you go through a company to help you with your jobs and accommodation, what is the website you showed on the screen ? I didn’t go through TWHC (The Working Holiday Club) because I wanted to save the $$ and I had already done the visa myself. However it’s a great option if you’re not feeling confident in the visa process and it’s a good way to meet people in the beginning. But if you want to save yourself some money, it’s definitely easy to do on your own if you do lots of research to get familiar with the systems and terminology :) always here to help if you have any specific q’s! Hey! I go with Best Quote IEC insurance they’re really good and easy to use. For mine I think I did $200,000 with $0 excess which cost us about $1500 each (this was 2 years ago). If you want to risk it and spend less, do a higher excess but keep the coverage high. Atleast $100,000 in case of a hospital stay, bills can add up very fast! And make sure you get the winter sports coverage, definitely needed! I broke my wrist my first winter and it cost me almost 3K which I got back thankfully.

    • @caitlinjanet_

Hey! Great Q, I’m not sure actually, might be worth searching on the IEC Facebook group. I do know a lot of people that use Wise and other options like that, but I still think it’s handy having the Canadian bank account in case for some reason your other card doesn’t work. We are with CIBC and pay $0 fees for the first 2 years. We also have a Credit Card now which is handy because sometimes other cards don’t work for some places (like the usa, or certain restaurants) and for things (hotels sometimes only accept CC, renting cars, big payments like flights when your debit has a limit). Hope that helps!

However my year they couldn’t guarantee me housing and I had already done my visa alone so didn’t feel I needed to spend my money on a company. It is scarier but definitely can be done as long as you spend your time now researching as much as possible so that you feel more confident. No you should be okay! There are plenty of jobs in town for winter, but the hardest part is just getting housing. So if you’re late to that it can be harder but not impossible! Good luck.

Hey 😊 are the costs in Canadian dollars or Australian?

Hey! Great question! My brain kind of thinks of them as one thing now! I would say for your savings and for everything you buy while still at home (insurance, visa) in AUD and then everything I mentioned in Canada as CAD :)
