Sorry but "don't worry about it" I think is the wrong approach for certain retirees. My Australian privately funded pension account is not tax exempt. In Australia we don't pay taxes on pensions. I have been piling taxed money into my Superannuation fund for the sole reason it yields a tax-free pension. I have calculated if Thailand implement this tax, I could be paying 20% tax on my pension. ⅕ of my pension. Sorry but that is a deal breaker. Regular old age government Australian pensioners will be taxed around 12-15% and I have spoken to guys who are really living with barely any savings. Triple tiered hospital charges will still be in place. No discount or benefit to me. I pay tax on my vehicle registration. I pay VAT. If I pay 20% tax, then sorry to any partner. I cannot afford to give her financial support. This equates to relationship breakups and poorer people losing out here. This is a very subsistence based society for many and getting support from foreign partners is a big bonus. This tax change will destroy all that. And currency variations on the AUD can swing 20% up and down as well. I then need to get documents certified to give to a Thai tax accountant, pay my Australian accountant. I'm retired. I wanted a tax-free living. I've paid taxes all my damned life. I am now planning to travel to the Philippines to check out expat friendly areas. No tax on incoming funds for retirees. Also, buying condos - who is going to buy a condo if you can be taxed up to 35%? A 4 Million Baht condo would cost 5.4 Million Baht. Only way around this is to stay outside Thailand for more than 6 months in a calendar year, transfer whatever you want. And then you won't be taxed for that year. But interest in bank accounts here is terribly low. But what a hassle. US Social security is exempt, some government employee and military pensions are exempt. The rest of us are screwed. Sorry but Phillipines may be my option. I love Thailand but not for an extra 20% cost of living. That makes living here expensive. Currently I am only bringing in bare minimum amount of money per month. I am spending frugally. I have stopped supporting my friend (sadly). I was thinking of buying a decent 2nd hand car but no. And definitely DO NOT buy a condo or home this year in my opinion. Could end up disastrous. Hold off until next year or whenever this is all clarified. And maybe like me, look for alternative retirement places as a plan B.

Some good advice here, so many vids i see from so called experts expats who discuss how much it costs to live in Thailand are ridicuus these people know nothing about Thailand. They usually say something like, 50,000 a month bare minimun...... it's also worth remembering Hua Hin is actually an expensive town, especially for rent. Most other small towns are cheaper to live in.

Plan to visit Na Klang soon, hopefully before the end of this year, and from what I have seen and heared the nature in the area is stunning. I have been in Thailand once, and the food is just fantastic, that is all I can say about it. Greetings from the Netherlands and I added you, since I have serious plans in Na klang, thumbs up also.
