    Does anything rotate inside a transfer case at idle? Jeep TJ

    • @fairbanks4x4
      @fairbanks4x4 Месяц назад

      No, the input only spins when the transmission is in a gear and the 4wd internal section only turns when in 4wd or in 2wd but the front axle is live thus turning the front driveshaft thiu turning the 4wd internals

    Great video. For anyone in a bind and can’t afford the rebuild kit, these T cases sell for about 50$ at pull a parts

    Im have the exact same problem with nv3550 from a TJ would are the input shafts the same size

    • @fairbanks4x4
      @fairbanks4x4 6 месяцев назад

      Then can be, the AX5 has .580 diameter and the AX15/nv3550(nv3500) can have the .580 or the .750 diameter

    I'd love to know if this could be the cause a roaring rumble at highway speed on a 2000 Cherokee. Do you still do t-case work? If so, could I get in contact with you to discuss a rebuild?

      If you think this drive gear is causing a noise then the best way to check is to remove the front driveshaft. With it removed these parts wont be turning and your noise should go away. I still build these weekly but I am in Florida.

      @@fairbanks4x4 Do you think it’s worth rebuilding in order to retrofit it with the earlier bearing style vs the solid style on the later models?

    I put a 232 in my ZJ and when I put it in to reverse it slams in to gear and the noise is coming from the t case it also slams when I put it in the drive as well but not as bad. This happens in two wheel drive or 4 wheel drive. The fluid looks clean. Any idea what the problem is?

    Thank you. My hi/lo gear bearing is shot around that brass gear. The keyway are worn out too. It looks like someone installed an incorrect chain, and this part was the first to give out. I'm guessing that the replacement will be a diffrent part.... it has been upgraded. If you know what the correct part number is, I'd be much obliged.

    I have a question pertaining to the bearing on the other end of the input shaft-mainshaft. Is there anything that holds the large needle type rollers down, or do they just float in there? I figured there would be a cage, or something that holds them all down like every other bearing on this thing, but i cant find anything. Im pretty sure someones been in this thing before and i just want to know if im missing something before i reassemble. Thanks

    Question for ya. So, transfer case works for everything. I can use two wheel drive, 4x4 full, 4x4 part, and can feel the torque for 4x4 low. Front driveline does not engage for any of the 4x4 functions, I read that the shift detent ball could be stuck causing the range fork to slide in an out but I am unsure. Thoughts? It's a NP242J

    You can also use a repair sleeve and bearing from a company called tekpack fitzall,,saves you from buying shaft and having to disassemble trans.

    Good video. Thank you very much. I have never seen transfer case parts that are as badly worn as some of those ones. Although we probably had a couple of NP 208 from our old GMC plow trucks that probably would have been in that condition if we had disassembled them.

    Thank you for explaining how this works, mine is a 2004 and I just did some work on , it has a gasket with those seals on , I was wondering why they put the gasket on ? I'm going to reinstall the transfer case back on but I don't have a gasket my is broke, I'm putting silicone pemtyx anyway just I case

      FAIRBANKS 4x4 Well my transfer case has the double sided seal as well as on the trans, when I pulled the transfer case out it also had a gasket that kinda broke in the process , I put silicon just incase , I was wondering why they put the gasket on from factory if it's useless ? Anyway I had done this yesterday drove it for 30 miles so far so good , not one drop of leak . Thank you , had i not watched your video I would've gotten the gasket.

      @@mrjerusalem5513I also found a gasket between the Transmission and Transfer case on a 1997 AX-15/ NP231. The only reason I think there might be a gasket between some of them would be a potential vibration dampener, but it's doubtful that'd have any effect. I destroyed this gasket when separating the units and never put in a new one. The weep hole on the transmission side would render it useless anyway. I never had any problems

  • @BucktailResearch
    @BucktailResearch 4 года назад

    How can you check the chain while in the unit? I don't see a new video from you on that. Thanks.

    • @fairbanks4x4
      @fairbanks4x4 4 года назад

      if its streched and making noise you can remove the front driveshaft and place unit in neutral and spin the front output yoke. however there is no way to determine a chain that is not making noise since the case components when assembled actually pull the chain taunt. But with them assembled you cant see inside.

    I've replaced every thing there is to replace all sensors , roatorbutton,cap,fuel pump filter tank , ran new wires all spark plugs wires timing chain computer twice now throttle body etc literally everything beside head gasket wire harness and motor its self I think I'm giving up its a solid Jeep no rust and I hate to give up but I can't figure it out it been to a bunch of people aka grauge and nobody no it acts like it's getting flooded out and spark plugs Jeep fouling

    • @fairbanks4x4
      @fairbanks4x4 6 лет назад

      if you installed new plugs, take them out and see what they look like. If they smell like gas and are wet then it could be injectors or fuel pressure regulator. If it was in front of me I would install my fuel pressure gauge and see what it shows. If its the correct pressure and after you turn off motor the pressure holds for an hour then I would move on. I would hook up my scanner and make sure there are no codes ( permanent or temporary ) I would go through the fuses and make sure they are all good. I would look at all of the ground wires any where that you have been. Double check the firing order on wires,make sure the idle isnt over 1000 rpms (if so there is a vacuum leak). on the throttle body there is a idle air controls (IAC) on the back side that clogs up with carbon and in the throttle body. thats all i can think of at the moment

      It can jump teeth if its worn bad enough. . In my opinion its better to change it, it might not fix all of the engine issues but its a great place to start.
