Excellent work my friend!
Thank you much!
That was great!!
@@patmoon1539 Definitely not the day I was hoping for, but that's fishing!
great video! what rod are you using in this?
Thanks! Started off with a medium-heavy Fenwick HMG, until it broke. Then switched to a medium Daiwa Tatula, which is my preferred rod in most situations. Fenwick sent me a replacement, but it's a different rod than the one I used in this video.
Beautiful small mouth Bass 👍
@@GrayWolf3334 Thanks!
Nice!!! You make that look easy!!
@@patmoon1539 Oh no, it was definitely a struggle that day!
Real big is 23 1/2 4 3/4 lbs
Well, yeah that would be longer than the Wisconsin state record.
What kind of lure is that
@@Theafter. Whopper Plopper 75
Good to see a new post from you - As I've said before, I love watching those river pike hit with surprise! Thank you ~
Good to be able to post again! Haven't been out much, I definitely missed the thrill of seeing a Pike blow up on my lure. Thanks for checking in!
Nice catches
Thanks, Nate!
What a fun day!! Ok I might have giggled over the spider but still fun! Beautiful fish!
@patmoon1539 I'm starting to wonder if I was imagining the spider, because I can't find it on the footage...
@@wisconsinbackwaters He was gigantic and fast - I'm sure of it!!! 🤣
Some clean lookin fish man. Kind of a small smallmouth for s.e. wisco in my opinion but good to see they're biting jerk baits already.
Unfortunately I wasn't able to land any bigs on this day, but Jeff did pull that nice 18 incher about 8 and a half minutes in. I was cool with catching anything so early in the year! And yeah, jerkbait is probably the way to go for Pike and Smallies for now. Thanks for watching man!
What a fun day!!! Love this!!
It was a blast! Great day to tag team 'em!
Oh how funny!! But that mouth!😅
We are working on that!
Awesome video and awesome spot
Thanks! Won't be long before it's completely full of boats there.
Oh I see it now, but I wouldn't call that ice fishing usually ice fishing is going out on to a lake or any frozen body of water, drill a hole, set up a tent around the hole if you want and fish.
That's kind of the joke. I'm more of an open water fisher than I am an ice fisher.
were is the ice
You can't see it? About 6 inches out with the shore. Lol
I'm standing on it about halfway through the video
Stop buying your traces from china, those quick clips are shit clips
Great day out there. Enjoyed the video and content. I just subscribed to your channel. Thanks for sharing. Good luck and tight lines man.
Thanks a lot! I can only hope for more days like this in the future. Hope the fishing is well where you are!
What river?
Wolf
Will share braid/fluoro and braid/lure knots I use when I see you next. Good day out there!
Thanks, Jeremy! I'll need 'em!
That’s what happens when you use ridiculous heavy line, and lock down your drag with a torque wrench. Maybe theres a class you could take to learn how to fish.
10 lb mono is ridiculously heavy? And I keep my drag at a level of tightness where I can pull the line out by hand, so not all that tight. Take a class on how to not be a douche.
Looks like youre using super cheap hardware. The store bought leaders are often garbage
I think there's always some risk of malfunction with steel leaders and things like that, but I haven't had too many issues with these. I really think the problem was simply not loosening the drag here
"PromoSM"
What a fun day!!!
It was a blast!
That was a monster Bud. I feel your pain. Tight lines, and terminal tackle.
The one that got away. Thanks man, you too!
The big girls love hugging the bottom getting snagged in all the trees and shit
Damn gotta take that as a leason in being drag aware. Tough lesson to learn
For sure! I'll be more ready next time I've got a big one on.
Amateur
Well, I'm not a professional. I'm sure you are though
He didn’t “bend your leader”, your cheap snap swivel failed
Snap swivels come attached to essentially every steel leader, so yeah the fish bent it. I have no need to tie directly to a swivel, but I do have the need to use a leader when targeting fish with teeth
Ok, you must have had a great reason for horsing him like that,,, I’m assuming there was a thicket of cover he was about to get into?
I didn't horse it, that was all the fish. It had my rod tip bent over like that all on its own, probably because it hit almost underneath me. Only thing I regret was not loosening the drag, but didn't expect the Pike to be twice the size of the ones I had been catching that day
I once fished with a guy who netted like that... once.
I don't think the net job itself was the issue
Bro😭😭
Tell me about it
@@wisconsinbackwaters я испытал прекрасные эмоции
Such a rooky lift the net outta the water 😂😂😂😂😂
Fair enough. I've been told I have the wrong type of net for big Browns like this one, and it was a lot heavier than I was expecting it to be.
You need a bigger net!
That would probably be helpful for these fish.
Nice 😊
I must've been awestruck by it, would've been my first trout ever!
@@wisconsinbackwaters I definitely know the feeling . Thank you for your reply -Tight lines my fellow fisherman
@@Hooked914 Same to you!
That is unacceptable... get rid of that clip on crap please!!! Tie it on brother good luck that fish was a stud he was diggin hard and straightened that clip gimmick lol
The majority of steel leaders for predatory fish like Pike and Musky have swivels attached to them, but yeah that definitely was my downfall
It's a rough tough lesson to learn but you got em on the run now redemption is great motivation good luck catch em up and stay safe out there
@@robbubba8020 Oh yeah I'll be after 'em again when the time is right! Thanks!!
I never use those clip on pieces of shit... When I was 11, in 49 now,I lost a big catfish because the snap swivel popped open, haven't used em since..
That's fair. I only use them because they're attached to the steel leaders that I use when targeting toothy fish like Pike and Musky, to prevent bite offs.
What state… Ima take a guess, Washington?
Wisconsin
@@wisconsinbackwatersoh I should’ve read your name first 💀 lol
@@demontheGOD I thought you were trolling me, haha.
That Pike is dancing! 😂
😆😆 Might have had a few more moves to bust out if the water had been a bit warmer!
You're a brave man out there this time of year! Great Footage!
Thank you. It's's extra rewarding when you manage one!
Awesome !!
Absolutely!
you missed some good ice fishin on lake montello the past like week, ice has been about 4 1/2-5ish inches thick in the area im in and fishin. a guy came to my area and caught a 17 inch LMB and a 29 inch pike and the pike and bluegill have been biting like crazy!!!
Nice! Early ice is the way to go from what I've heard. I usually don't get out until January, I hold onto open water fishing as long as possible. That's kind of surprising to hear you had that much ice out there!
@@wisconsinbackwatershere courtesy of fishbrain. Won't let me post an original comment for some reason
@@Skrambo92 Sweet! Thanks for checking out the video!!
And learn how to tie a knot and stop using those piece of crap snap swivels smh
Dude, it's on a STEEL LEADER. It is EXTREMELY common to use one when targeting Pike and Musky. Certain setups and applications call for fluorocarbon leaders, and some for steel leaders, which have a swivel on them almost all of the time. Learn anything about anything before you make a comment.
Awesome shot. Did you land it?
Thanks! Yep, it hit the net.
How big? HOw about what the f was it!? Obviously you were teeth fishn w a leader☝️😳 Muskie… Maybe foul Hooke scarp 👀👀😳
Definitely a Pike that slurped up the swimbait on the pause. No Musky in here that I know of, as for a snagged Carp..I have done that a few times while Pike fishing lol. There's a few things that give it away when it is a Carp
Who needs a whopper plopper when you got a bat bait? I kept thinking your phone was going to go swimming. I usually wear crocs in the kayak, but I’m gonna up my game to chukkas. Good stuff man. Cheers from Western Chicagoland.
I hear ya, I'm probably just gonna start wearing some straight up water shoes when on the river. And I should probably put my phone in a waterproof case, considering I end up in the water frequently. Love the plopper too, but something about the bat, super effective for Pike! Thanks for the feedback man!
Good
Thanks!
man what a drag!
You ain't kidding!
Use quality gear
What do you recommend? If you wanna suggest not using a steel leader, which is extremely common and tried and true when targeting Musky or Pike, then just say that. There's nothing wrong with my rod and reel combo or line that I'm using, as you can see everything held up except for the swivel on the leader. Which, if you read previous comments, has already been chalked up to me not loosening my drag and letting the fish run.
@@wisconsinbackwaters I would use a brand of hook that would not straighten out
@johnhenry2265 Well it's not the hook that got bent, but the swivel on the leader. Which was a freak thing, and I didn't handle the fight properly. Unlikely to ever happen again with my gear.
@@wisconsinbackwaters I apologize my eyesight is not the best 👍
@johnhenry2265 Oh no it's all good.
Love watching when those pike hit & surprise you! Especially when its up close and personal in a kayak...
They'll smack your lure when you're least expecting it! Probably my favorite fish to target, particularly on topwater.
Now THAT was a big one! But got off too fast!
Just a preview!
@@wisconsinbackwaters You tease!!😊
