How To Select A Microsoft Access Combo Box Value Using VBA
Demonstrating how easy it is to set the Value or Default Value of a combo box in Microsoft Access.
I provide both a single column combo box example, as well as a more advanced multi-column properly normalized example.
I demonstrate doing so by searching through the combo box rows and also how DLookUp could be used.

VBA - Quick Tip - Searching Through Your Code
Hi Daniel. Why do you avoid DLookups? Is it purely the fact that too many of them tend to slow down the DB? Or is there another reason?
In this case, you already have all the data avilable, why perform a lookup that has to go find, open an object, then search through it and pass back a value? DLookUps are inefficient in a general sense and as much as possible, should be avoided.
Thanks Daniel. I added my upvotes to all your posts. I appreciate your initiative.
Thank you for your support!
Plz tell latest office version
I'm not sure I understand the question. For perpetual licensed versions, 2024 is the most recent. For subscription based, then MS365 is the latest, but the build will depend on your update channel and what settings your IT department have put in place.
👌
Thanks
Responding to those negative messages, as someone who has done project work for Microsoft, people might be surprised to find out that 3rd parties are tapped to work on projects where Microsoft isn't incentivized to focus its internal talent. I'm looking at Access here as a specific example. I would not be surprised if the developers on the latest Access features are 3rd party contractors to MS. There are some real hurdles when 3rd parties are engaged in a way that doesn't have the full support of Microsoft. If anyone has worked at redmond but not on campus, you know what I'm talking about. If one looks at the advancements that Excel has received vs Access, it is incredibly clear where Microsoft is putting its attention given the polish that both Excel and PowerBI has received. It doesn't make sense to denigrate the developers that did work on the enhancements to Access, but instead keep the criticisms constructive and focused at Microsoft's project managers. While not including the crashes, most of the criticisms were superficial and really emotionally charged. I for one am glad that Access is getting any attention and I can only imagine if the responses are professional they'll continue to improve albeit slowly. As for the crashes, I would be curious if add-ins or other competing code in their installations contributes to the crashes. the only crashes i experience lately are when i try to filter on a table when i really should be using a query to filter a table anyway. Also not sure about the light gray background everyone has complained about, my background in the sql editor is pretty dark. Not sure why the one in this video was that shade of gray. I am using a dark them with office so not sure if that is helping me. I don't disagree with Pineault's take on this but its not all bad and certainly is usable. I do slightly disagree with commenting throughout a query, in my experience commenting outside of a query - preferably at the top is ideal when reading through the code but that should not have been a deal breaker for anyone... comments vs no comments is huge.
Nice comment. Thanks for the counterpoint. I truly mean this, you've given me some serious food for thought about my channel. Sorry if you felt the content was emotionally charged, but after the same poor output for at least 15 years now what do you expect? I'm tired of the same crap, time and time again. It clearly shows a complete lack to caring. There's no other word for it. You don't repeatedly put out sub-par updates and features requiring months, if not years of fixes if you take pride in your work. Yet this is exactly what we keep being fed. Did you see all the bugs since CTR came out, Modern Charts, Modern Web Browser, Monaco SQL Editor, ... need I really go on, seriously?! Am I happy that we have a new SQL Editor, sure, I just wish they actually knew what QA was and took a minimum of pride in their work. Is it ready for production, God NO! What they've put out is a pre-beta version ready for their own internal testing, certainly not ready for end-user usage. As for crashes, I can't speak for others, but my system has no add-ins, just a standard install. It's a VM with nothing more than Office specifically to avoid any potential conflicts. Whether or not 3rd party developers are used, or not, is inconsequential to the discussion. MS, the Dev Team are responsible at the end of the day. It's their responsibility to oversee things and ensure quality. It is no different than any other project management task. Nothing else to say here. As for Access' Project/Product Management, what can I say, the product, features, updates speak volumes, but I'm not surprised based on past performances and the fact that our current PM is only 1/4, 1/5, 1/6 (not sure any what she had stated in an online meeting anymore) devoted to Access as she's responsible for so many other products/programs. Then again this just shows the importance put on Microsoft Access internally at Microsoft. I spent 10-15+ years providing constructive feedback! Reporting issues, screenshots, repo databases, pre-beta testing, with Access it doesn't work. You're simply ignored! They don't listen to our advice, if they did trust me Access would be a FAR better product!!! They don't even fix reported issues with documentation when it's reported. You want constructive criticism, look at years of feedback on uservoice/feedback portal and it's never used or actionned! They do as they please 'point final'. I've gotten better interactions with several other Microsoft teams (Outlook, Power Automate) when I've asked questions and reported issues, than from the Access team to the point that since about July I no longer even waste my time with them anymore! Look at what happened with the Research Panel, another joke. Look at the Roadmap, they can't even keep that up to date. The 2 elements they had on the go are both released, they can't even update the status to reflect that and that means the Roadmap is empty making Access look dead, again. The fixes page hasn't seen an update since February. So all the bugs go without support. And people are going to talk to me about Microsoft's Support, get real! No Release Notes! And then, let us not forget, this particular 'feature' was originally set for 2021 release (if my memory serves me). So MS had an extra 3 years and this is WHAT we get?! My opinion and statements were based on more than just this one new feature release. There's a clear pattern of behavior here. We can pretend everything is peachy, or we can call a spade a spade. Nothing will ever improve with the former this has been proven with the past 15+ years of Access development. It's just more of the same for Access. New 'feature' = lots of problems. Nothing new to report here.
The only hope that I can see that we have is if we want to stick with VBA is that twinBasic will become a replacement with hopefully an affordable cost. It is too costly for my needs at this time but maybe in the future that will change.
In my opinion, the best option is to migrate to proper Web development technologies (.net, php, blazor, ...). Microsoft is slowly phasing out VBA (Outlook is just the first IMHO), desktop apps, how long will Access continue to be viable in it's current state? I think this current situation demonstrates a serious managerial issue, a fundamental lack of understanding of what people were asking for and a complete lack of internal QA! It's sad to keep seeing Access get degraded rather than upgraded.
I'm using 365 and don't have Monaco SQL editor. I've tried to enable it, but can't seem to
It depends on your update channel. Are you on the current channel or some other one ? If the option doesn't appear in the options dialog, you haven't received the new feature yet. It's your db an mdb or an accdb?
Hi Daniel. As usual, a great and very informative video! I was caught off-guard last week with this editor. I was making a small change to my application; it should have been a 30-minute job. It turned into hours, because some query types kept failing. I would design a query in the designer, test the results, everything working perfectly. I then switch to the query editor to copy the code, all good at this point. But when I use the code in me VBA app, it fails. It turned out that with certain join type combinations, the editor was not honoring line breaks. So, naturally I then wanted to open the query that I saved, to fix the problem. At this point the query does not open, it produces and error - the JOIN type is not allowed. And this was a simple LEFT JOIN. I had to fix the problem in the data properties by opening the query using F2. This is a terrible query editor. It boggles the mind that MS would produce such a dysfunctional product. I have a question on a different topic. Some time ago you tested the waters to see if videos about other avenues, like PHP, would be welcome. What was the outcome of that. Will you be producing PHP and web dev videos in the near future. I am becoming more and convinced that the way forward is not with Access. I am interested in your views on this.
I would like to make some php videos, but have been very busy actually doing PHP development for a client and simply haven't had much time.
I came across it on one customer site. Yes, it's bloody slow. Thanks for showing me how to disable it. I fully agree that it is not ready for prime time. Such a disappointment.
Let's just hope with enough time Microsoft can make it work as it should!
Thanks for the warning. I guess I don't know what I don't know! I use Access plane jane out of the box, so I am very glad for the warning not to install this "upgrade"!
Sadly, when office updates you will have it appear one day. I'm just hoping they fix this mess, fast!
excelent! thank!
Glad you liked the video!
I ran into a couple of problems using your Data Form. 1. My setup unfortunately has spaces in the Path and I needed to revise the GetAllMetaInformation code as follows (leastways, I think that is the source of the problem I encountered. I'm using a 32 bit version of Access 2013). Dim sCmd As String Dim sCmdRoot As String sCmdRoot = """" & ET_GetExe() & """" sCmd = "" 'Debug.Print sCmd If bShowDuplicateTags Then sCmd = sCmd & " -a" If bDisplayOriginalTagNames Then sCmd = sCmd & " -S" sCmd = sCmd & " -fast" sCmd = sCmd & " -sort" sCmd = sCmd & " """ & sFile & """ | clip" 'sCmd = sCmd & " """ & sFile & """ && pause" 'sCmd = """" & sCmd & """" sCmd = "" & sCmd & "" sCmd = """" & sCmdRoot & sCmd & """" 2. The Meta data is truncated if there is a comma in the TagValue. For instance, the following is correctly displayed in the Clipboard Encoding Process : Baseline DCT, Huffman coding Exif Byte Order : Little-endian (Intel, II) but the following is subsequently displayed in your ExifTool Form (any data after the comma is blank), Encoding Process :Baseline DCT Exif Byte Order : Little-endian (Intel Hoping you find this helpful and can update with a fix. Great utility. Thks.
Thank you for sharing.
thank you for your hard work on that control, actually I am facing the issue that you mentioned first< it only navigate to the first record url , then while moving to other records it doesnt navigate other urls , it is still on the first loaded record? could you help in that please.
My feeling is MS is trying to replace Access by Power BI on the maket. Everybody uses Excel spreadsheet for almost anything and paying devs to get nice results with Access is too expensive. Too bad PBI users are low profiles and don't understand the data models they are trying to build "awsome heatmaps" from... meh!
There's no doubt that Microsoft is definitely trying to drive business to their cloud offerings, $$$! Access has been an afterthought for quite some time now. Even when they do release new 'features' they are far from ready for production and take months, if not years, to become stable and many bugs never get addressed, many features never get added leaving is with subpar tools. When I say this I'm referring to things like the Modern Charts, Modern Web Browser control, then new Monaco SQL Editor, ... Access is definitely not a priority.
Hello Sir, hope you will be fine, I'm trying to permanent allow internet explorer popup message "do you want to allow this website to open an app on your computer?" can we add some lines of code in your video method that allow him automatically or any other way that can be permanently allowed. waiting for your prompt reply. thankyou.
From what I know, unfortunately, you can't turn off this notification in Internet Explorer as it is a security 'feature'.
@DanielPineault Ok noted, can we allow every time through vba code if we can't disable
No, not to my knowledge, that would kind of defeat the security if it was that easy to bypass it.
Sir i forgot how to recover password
There is no way with the modern accdb file format beyond brute force attack . There are also applications you can buy to crack the password or some companies you can hire as well, but I'm most cases you are looking at days, if not longer to crack.
I think it's a business opportunity if a group of programmers decides to launch a product similar to MS Access. This is because there are no similar applications that are both high standard quality and accessible to the common user. Moreover, sooner or later MS will abandon Access, they want to push for DB solutions not accessible to common users.
There are so many alternatives on the market now. Then there's the fact that most new developers go to web technologies that can do everything Access does, and more and are far more flexible.
@@DanielPineault Realy? I dont think so.
You don't think what? That there are alternatives or that new developers like web programming languages over an old VBA driven application like Microsoft Access? FileMaker is one alternative for instance. AirTable. Zoho PowerApps Caspio knack teable Nocodb kexi LibreOffice base Apache OpenOffice base Symphytum glom (web.archive.org/web/20190228143420/www.glom.org/wiki/index.php?title=Main_Page) ...
Once again you have changed my weekend plans with yet another Access concept to learn and master! Brilliant!
Glad to help, but at least this one is very straightforward and won't take too long to master. It truly is simple.
@@DanielPineault Cannot get your code to work. Only gives me the name of the file no metadata?
Does this happen if you use my meta data form?
@@DanielPineault Yes
What's your office installation 32 or 64 bit? You renamed the exiftool(-k).exe to exiftool.exe?
Thanks, is there a method I can get info about a video file, e.g. so like video code and audio code? Hope you can help.
I don't have a lot of audio or video file to test with, but the exiftool does return all sort of info on the files I quickly tested. You could also try the technique explained in: www.devhut.net/how-to-retrieve-a-files-properties-with-vba/
Thank you very much for this tutorial. I like it.
You're most welcome.
Daniel, Gr-r-r-eat video! Appreciate your detailed explanations. Could this form subclass strategy work between external databases? I have several databases that are clones of each other, each serving a particular project id. I am planning to establish a library database referenced by each of the clone database. Goal is to make form class modules in the library databases. Any changes in the library database form class modules properties, methods and events will update all the clone databases. This would be a great time saver because it would reduce the painful effort to laboriously make the same changes to forms in each cloned databases! Your thoughts and recommendations would be appreciated. Thank you always for your hard work and kind helpfulness and sharing these concepts and ideas with us!
Thanks.
I've noticed Excel suddenly stopped closing out cleanly a few weeks ago, but never took the time to dive into why. I will check to see if this is the culprit next time it happens, but your intuition and explanation make perfect sense. THANK YOU for this video, Daniel!!!
My pleasure, glad it helped at least one other person!
Outside of the latest and greatest office version that my work uses, I've been working off of Microsoft student office 2016 that I scraped together some pocket lint for back in university. By pure coincidence, I heard that Home Office 2024 had released recently - a much welcomed and long overdue upgrade. I imagine I won't need to update again for another decade, haha.
Not much of an upgrade between 2016 and 2024, and no Access included.
My issue is that when the preview is on the excel file will take forever to open. And if I look at the preview image, the excel file is flickering and a blank white screen pops up over teh opened file. The white screen does not have a close button or any buttons for that matter. Once the file finally opens, the white screen goes away. The time for the file to open can be anywhere for 1 mintu to several minutes. But when I turn off the preview in explorer, The file pops up with no issues. Crazy stuff.
Yes, I too experience such issues.
@@DanielPineault It has to do with windows explorer preview being turned on. When it is off, I dont experience the event. BUt I think there is a video accelleration setting that can be reset in excel. Not sure
That exactly the point made in the video; windows explorer preview causes problems, there's obviously a bug.
I had suspected those preview panes of this sort of activity and have avoided them. But I have many clients who love preview, so I still 'have' the problem.
Don't you love that. It's just odd because it wasn't an issue previously. Microsoft just doesn't seem to be able to make updates without breaking something else.
thank you for this
Glad you found it useful.
Access will probably go the same way as publisher (RIP - I use that too, a lot) by 2030 at the latest, maybe even 2027 since the only way to get access 2024 is to buy the professional plus edition of office, not sure how many sales that will generate
Don't forget, it is still part of several MS365 subscriptions. But, as Microsoft seems to be trying to slowly phase out VBA and desktop apps, who knows what the future holds for Access!
I'm not a power user, but just trying to quickly find out if the features and other differences are enough to justify upgrading from 2021 to 2024...
I don't think there's truly much, but you can always review pages such as: support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/what-s-new-in-office-2024-and-office-ltsc-2024-baadecbe-a8fc-4435-8cb8-70e93fd08b56
I'll be thinking of you during your reduced-contribution period. I appreciate your service to the Access community.
Thank you
Brilliant!!!! I know I sound like a dripping tap but PLEASE could you do a video on the IMPLEMENTS command - Access's version of inheritance.
You mean class implements?
@@DanielPineault It is directive in class modules.
or just buy Office 2021 from a reseller, with a key for $25 for just one pc...............pretty damn close without a subscription !
I'd tend to agree. The 'improvements' between 2021 and 2024 are pretty minimal.
@@DanielPineault no Publisher in 2024 though, sad for those of us who use it
Indeed, they're killing the product. Per support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/microsoft-publisher-will-no-longer-be-supported-after-october-2026-ee6302a2-4bc7-4841-babf-8e9be3acbfd7 they are now referring people to use Microsoft Create.
What is the major differences between Microsoft Office 2021 and Microsoft Office 2024? I am starting to think many software companies and hardware companies like CPU makers make very small tweaks to justify the prices. If we are talking differences between Word 95 vs Office 2024, yes its a huge difference, but between Word 2021 and word 2024? I am not too sure lol.
For the average person the changes made in the past 10, or even 20 years are in consequential.
@@DanielPineault So if I can get 2021 pro for $20... then it's a no brainer? I care more about Excel updates than Word though...
I'd be very skeptical to be able to purchase any version of office for $20!
This is an amazing video. It's exactly what so many of us need to see, and refer back to often.
Thank you for those kind words and thank you for taking the time to post your feedback. I truly appreciate it.
I'm not an Access user. However, it is completely absurd to exclude it and charge a ridiculously high fee to add it on. It was included for the package price for close to three decades? This is typical asinine behaviour from greedy psychopaths in the corporate world. As you mention, the folks at MS want to move Office to a subscription-only model. They deliberately make the perpetual license unattractive in an egregious manner, thus causing even more people to dislike the company. People who don't require the advanced and proprietary features of the various MS Office programs should move to a free and open source solution like LibreOffice or OnlyOffice. Those who do require those features should probably research whether they can eventually move to other solutions in the future.
Hi, do anyone know the “AutoSave" (Co-authoring) feature included on excel 2024 and power point 2024? As far as I know (Co-authoring) feature on office 2021 only works on word 2021.
I don't have firsthand knowledge, but according to support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/what-s-new-in-office-2021-43848c29-665d-4b1b-bc12-acd2bfb3910a Co-authoring was available in Word, Excel & PowerPoint (but want available in the LTSC edition) They also mention the autosave feature lower in the article.
Disclaimer: I avoid Access like the plague since I don't consider it to be a relational database so I can only speak about all the other apps. You are completely missing the main point of M365. It isn't about the new features. Anyone working with Excel on a more advanced level doesn't want to wait three years to get them, And I completely disagree with you about the stability. I run the BETA version of 365 and had only once a problem with a new function. Reported the problem and a week later it was fixed. They are doing a great job of testing before releasing. The most interesting advantage of M365 are the features like additional applications, 1 TB online storage, real-time co-authoring, backup and support by Microsoft. I once had a problem migrating my Outlook database from a computer to a new one with a different operating system. A guy from MS spent 45 minutes doing it for me. That is invaluable for people who don't work for a large company with an IT department. If you work in a company, co-authoring is awesome. No more pesky "locked for editing" messages. Just edit the file and even exchange messages about the file while you're working. You can also track who did which changes at what point in time and if you want to retrieve the September 2023 version of a file, no problem. And then there are the administrative tools. Be smart and don't just look at the buying costs.
After Office 2024 is installed, may it be run completely offline except maybe for template downloads?
According to Microsoft's documentation: "Internet access is required for the following situations with Office 2024: Internet access is required to look up device pre-entitlements in case your device came bundled with a copy of Office. Internet access is required to redeem and associate a copy of Office with your Microsoft account or your device ID. Internet access is required to activate apps, like Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Regular internet access is required to keep your apps up to date and to benefit from automatic updates and security patches. Periodic internet is required to keep your apps activated. Because Office 2024 does require the internet in the above situations, it is not an appropriate solution for use in fully disconnected scenarios. If you require a totally disconnected solution, consider using Office LTSC 2024." -- Microsoft "If you do not connect to the Internet periodically, your applications will go into reduced functionality mode, which means that you can view or print your documents, but cannot edit the documents or create new ones. To reactivate your Office applications, simply reconnect to the Internet." -- Microsoft
great to know windows has intentionally screwed over its consumer base once again. I needed access on the Home & Business. how can you offer a bare bones suite and even call it home and "Business"?
I think most people feel the same as you.
When they announced the end of Publisher I felt Access would be next to vanish completely, looks like they've added some of the more useful access features into excel Ask any non-business person when they used either of those titles and either they don't recall, it was at school, or say access is used at work. or they're oddballs like me and use access for anything they may need to search through later, and publisher is used for calendars and such
I thought Access was going the way of the Dodo a while back, then they invested in it, a bit. Then this. Then they're killing VBA slowly (Outlook first)... How long can Access continue without a web version.... Next they're disabling ActiveX controls by default. I just don't know anymore. What I do know is it is a mess. No central focus, lots of bugs with every new feature which they never completely address. Most features that are released are incomplete and take years to 'complete', just look at the 'Modern Charts'. Also, if you look at various usergroup videos and blog postings, you'll notice turnover within the Dev Team and Product Management, so a lot of lost knowledge there which also hurts progress. So much wasted potential, so poorly managed (I don't know if that's at the product level or upper management), underfunded & understaffed, ... How much longer will this keep going on for? Your guess is as good as mine!
Anyone knows which Excel functions are included in this release?
I'd start by reviewing: support.microsoft.com/en-gb/office/what-s-new-in-excel-2024-for-windows-and-mac-faee26b6-ad74-40a8-9304-aa6db716553f which seems to indicate only the New LAMBDA function.
@@DanielPineault Thanks so much for that quick reply.
No problem. We'd need an Excel MVP to truly tell us if there are any others, but then again I'd expect them to be on that page.
@@DanielPineault I tried to reply here with a link to a Microsoft community post with related query but it seems to be filtered out (by RUclips?)
I think RUclips block URLs except for video creators, but you could try being creative when posting it (omit http www, add a few spaces etc), it might work, but no guarantees.
thanks mate, can you please dedicate a video for making combo box modern like the html CSS models and your video about date picker maybe it can be updated today we have the new web control that support edge browser
Thank you for the ideas.
Damn just paid office 365 Personal 3 months ago for a year. I was waiting for office 2024 forever had to pull the trigger
Yes, I don't think you're alone in that and truthfully Microsoft is trying to force everyone over to MS365.
I was sooooooooo close to doing the same this last couple weeks 😂👍 Think I might just buy a discounted 2021 though 🤔
So are we to assume that there will be no Office Pro for the 2024 release?
It would currently seem that way.
I don't want to be optimistic! Microsost has made its annual update to the Microsoft Portal, now we have to wait for a year or more to see the next update! 🤷♂️
Lol!
A fantastic resource. Thanks for your work.
Truly glad you found it useful and thank you for your feedback!
I am concerned about the future of MS desktop Access. Current offerings seem to be moving toward Azure and O365 only. I will be bringing this up with our MS rep at our next monthly meeting.
Oh, Microsoft wants everyone on MS365 and has been pushing in that direction for several years now!
@@DanielPineaultYou are rigth but as Mike Wolfe said or wrote Microsoft don't want desktop applications! ☹️.
The only issue, and I agree that is their current goal, their is no web version of Access. They've webified Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, but not Access! So until they do that, we REQUIRE a desktop app. There is no doubt this was intentionally done. Nothing in an organization such as Microsoft just happens. They didn't forget about Access. The goal is pretty clear, if you want Access, and many people do, then join our SAAS and pay monthly for the rest of your life. Remember, a company only has one, true, objective and that is to make money to pay their shareholders. Everything else is secondary. The money is in SAAS although some believe that mentality is changing.
What are the difference between office 2024 and other version? What about the size of access database is increased frim 2 GB into above ? regards
Office 2024 is merely a snapshot of Microsoft Office at a given point in time (whenever they decided to package it up as a 'new' version for sale). So by the time it is actually available, it is behind the MS365 version. The difference is that MS365 incurs a never ending monthly subscription fee and the minute you stop, all your applications cease to work and you can no longer use any of your files whereas Office 2024 is a one time fee and you can use the software for as long as you wish. No, there has been no change on the file size limitation in any version. You can either use multiple backends or switch to an alternate RDMS to get around the issue.
Hey, so does that mean the 365 subscription will enable Microsoft access 2024 version? If so, do i need to update it and how would i go about that? I don't want to pay $180... when i got a $7 subscription
Office 2024 is a snapshot in time of MS365. So in reality, if you're running MS365 current channel, then you already have Office 2024 and probably more as you get feature updates which Office 2024 does not get. For perspective, 180$ is a one time cost vs. 7$ is a monthly subscription fee for the rest of your life. When you stop paying the monthly fee, you have nothing and can't use any of your Office files anymore. With a perpetual version (..., Office 2021, Office 2024, ...) it is yours for your life. But in your case, with MS365 already, Office 2024 is of no value to you unless you wish to get out of monthly fees, but from an application, feature perspective you have the best, most up-to-date version available.
Hi Daniel Someone high up in MS is pissing on MS Access again. Ok, so going forward ... If MS wants us to pay extra for their Access 2024 version, we must ask the questions (1) what new features are in Access 2024 Stand alone that would make it worthwhile? (2) Is this stand-alone compatible with older MS Office Pro bundles? (3) Upon purchase of Access standalone 2024, during its installation will it step on its older version in the previous bundle? I suspect not, I suspect we will have two versions co-installed and get a whole new round of bugs just from the dual install Thank you for your reasearch and presentation. It was a good job and I benefitted from it.
Co-installation hasn't been a good idea since Office 2007. It used to be super easy and reliable to do, but now you should use VMs to segregate editions. Backwards compatibility used to be Access' biggest feature, this is no longer true. Thus, there are no guarantees of compatibility between versions especially moving forward. Now you get blank sections or files that you simply can't open. You can no longer open older files without having access to intermediary versions of Access to perform the file format conversion. New, worthwhile features... That's always a matter of opinion. As one person already started, most people could still simply use Office 97 for what they actually do. In the case of Access specifically, I haven't seen any real worthwhile new features in 10-20 years. The only one that might be of interest is the new SQL Editor, but that isn't even part of Office 2024 and has been pulled from testing because of issues.
MS Access has always been treated oddly, I feel that it's likely be removed altogether within the next few versions of office since they're slowly adding some of its more useful features into Excel
I totally agree. Access has always been Microsoft Office's ugly stepchild. A major second class citizen, ignored, understaffed, never advertised, ...
Thanks
My pleasure, glad you liked it.
