A Day in the Life of Vintage Classic Specialist, Episode 245, finished up the 61 Vert. BEAUTIFUL!
Today I finished up the fuel system on the '61 Vert. It for a new tank, new reserve valve, new fuel hoses, and a carb and fuel pump rebuild. I re-did the brakes a week or two ago. It also got new white walls. Rafa worked on the trunk of the EV making things more tidy and some other details. Jacob got the transmission almost ready to pull on the '63 ragtop.

A Day in the Life of Vintage Classic Specialist, Episode 243, Buggy body is back, Porsche carbs off
Просмотров 6337 часов назад
Today I came in for a few hours, mainly to receive the ABSOLUTELY STUNNING body for the '68 Meyers Manx. The gel coat was not able to be saved, so Miguel sprayed it in Fire Red metal flake and it looks as good or better than the original gel coat. The video just can't do this thing justice, in person it is UNBELIEVABLE! I also pulled the Weber IDA carbs from the Porsche 911. I was surprised to ...

Today I mainly focused on the 68 Double Cab wiring. Now that we have a dash for it we can finally start making some real progress again on it. Rafa came in today for about half a day and got a couple small things done on the 64 Bus and the 69 EV Beetle. ALSO, we got in a new project, a great looking 63 ragtop beetle. It's going to be getting its motor and transmission rebuilt for now, and maybe...

Today I officially kicked off Project Ugly Duckling, the 1969 Porsche 911T Targa. I removed the smashed up passenger front fender and lights and prepped the replacement, which will go on tomorrow. Luckily the body structure underneath the fender was largely undamaged from the accident. Rafa installed all the rear side interior panels and got the safari windows mostly installed. #vintageclassics...

Vintage Classic Specialist mega-detailed 36hp and 40hp VW motors!
The Convertible is so lovely. If it was mine, i would be out driving it every day! I like the EV interior very much - quite unusual, but very smart looking. Gosh! - a camber compensator! I havent seen one of those for many years! How cool!
On the 40hp big bore rebuild what is the approximate cost and do you have the information on the builder. Thank you
Cute little 61. Love the while walls 😊 the red interior works too 👍🏻 why were the door handles in the EV bug left black instead of made Vent operation on tye DC looks so smooth. CU tomorrow 😁👋🏻
I had a quick convertible question, do you know what year did they stop putting the Circle metal air grommet’s behind the front Seats upholstery in convertibles , i was told they were for moister relief ,
Hmmm, sorry, I'm not sure 🤷♂️
Awesome , dig it when u have a update on convertible ,
It's a real beauty for sure! Too bad it will be gone soon. Looks great in the shop!
The double-cab dash really looks good. The radio aperture cover looks just the right shape! Good work by Jacob! I really love that '63 ragtop!
Thanks Robert! 🤙
I‘m an ICE guy as you know, but that EV bug would be a blast to drive around town for errands and stuff. I’d drive it proudly 👍🏻 ok, so I’ll be honest, the wiring on the DC doesn’t look any diffent than it did before 😂 🤷🏼 the glove box would look good with a small chrome spear across the front with the small vw badge in the center. The red Manx is ❤ Red is my favorite color and that candy metal flake is wow. CU tomorrow! 😁👋🏻
Thanks Stew! I guess that's good it doesn't look any different, because I added a lot of wires. Good suggestion on the glove box, that would look good. Sounds like you need a red metalflake Manx! We'd be happy to build you one! 😁🙌
Flake on the buggy looks a half inch thick!
Seriously!! 😎
Genuine recaro leather seats and interior?! Damn, my old '70 was stinky plastic fantastic and perhaps a bit of moldy stank from constant minor leaks. Well done!
Close, Scat ProCar seats in custom leather. We've got some really talented upholstery folks we work with. And thanks!
Now that’s RED ‼️Great paint job. Porsche lookin good. Did you bang out a dent on the engine hood ? Lower left side… those carburetors are bitchin….. thanks, Rick….. 🌴
It's SO red! Must be the most red thing I've ever seen! 🤣 Yes, I had one of the body guys I use band the dents out of the decklid, the fender by where the decklis was dented (lower left), and another dent on the left rear wheel arch.
I think we have another case of "better than new" here! Miguel has done an incredible job with the Manx paintwork. What a bonus finding the matched ports! That's 2 cars today that started off a nice colour and had colour blind owners to repaint them!! Go enjoy the rest of your weekend now!
That's what I've been telling people- I dont beleive it looked that good new! I was happy to find the match-ported manifolds, makes me wonder what else may have been done. Cams maybe? 🤷♂️
Miguel aint no flake his real deal !!! Great job on all your cars
💯‼️
Oooohhhh myyyyyyy gooooood! ❤😮 what an absolutely killer paint finish. That’ll probably be the nicest Manx buggy in California. Wow, C’mon Brian, get it done! 😂😂😂😂 you better be doing a ride in it for us 🫵🏻 Have Jacob go with you to film the buggy while you drive! Dress up like an old surfer for a Halloween gag 😂
For real! I spend a lot of time staring at it cause it looks so damn good! We'll be site to get some video driving it! 🙌
kind of like a tri coat minus the base. the pearl coat ( flakes) uses a mid coat and flake (midcoat clear ) then cleared its awesome old speed boats are done the same
Cool stuff huh? It's got so much depth!
That red is Gorgeous!!! Can't figure out why they repainted in that Awful Banana color.... musta been color blind!!! Glad you decided to to work on Saturday.....BONUS!!
It really is beautiful! Yeah. I can't imagine painting over that with yellow...
👍
🙌😎
Keep up great work
Thank you Jaime! 😎
So many projects at once. It’s good that they’re all VW’s. Wiring was never my favorite thing, but a necessary evil. Great job on all the cars. Thanks, Rick….. 🌴 Enjoy the weekend !
Thanks Rick! Yeah, hopefully one more new project coming in soon. 🤞
Good progress by Jacob. It will be nice to see that motor all restored and shiny, soon. Have a great weekend!
Thanks! He's a fast learner! It's going to look nice for sure!
I’m not too sure but I don’t think that’s the correct fan shroud for a 40 horse on that 63. That indentation I think is for a later PICT 34 carb. Again, I’m not one hundred percent on that. Are you guys going to try to find the correct turquoise colored cargo/fromt mats for that 64? That should be fun.😜
Even 36hp fan shrouds for beetles had a recess for the air cleaner. Bus ones didnt because the aclcleaner sat off to the side.
And no, we won't be looking for those mats lol. This bus is a restomod anyway, not really a strict restoration.
Yeah I just went and looked at a few of mine. I’m wrong. My bad. Funny I never noticed that indent. For the air cleaner I guess?
@@VintageClassicSpecialist Haha. Guess I need to find a bus one for my SC as the one on it has the indent. 😂. Thanks for the info.
Which crimping tool/system do you use when you shorten your wires? Really appreciate how you clean up the wires.
I don't know the brand of our crimping tool off the top of my head, I'll try to remember to look for you. And thanks for your kind words.
Nice customization.
Thanks! It's a fun car!
Do you always move the fuel filter away from the engine area when doing a restoration?
Yes, we put it down by the transmission. 👍
@@VintageClassicSpecialist same here
So, the owner of the new project car is a Porsche technician. And coincidentally you recently acquired a Porsche. Hmmmm, I see a pattern forming. Love the 63 rag top. And the wide white walls are very familiar to me, and funky. Great work, thanks. Rick….. 🌴
Hahahaha, yeah, funny huh? Hoping to start working on customer's Porsches eventually.
You do some beautiful work on these vehicles. Amazing!
Thank you so much! 🙏 We certainly try our best!
The ev hardware is such a neat install. Learn something new every day - the spacer for the rear pop-out - who knew! Cabrio wheel / tyre combo is lovely! Spaghetti wiring! It's the little details like shortening a few wires that make your work stand out! The new ragtop - What a wonderful looking car! It will be great to follow how that turns out! Great day at the shop!
Thanks Robert! Wiring is tedious but rewarding work to get things looking neat! Yeah, that 63 is a great little car, looking forward to making it great-er!
Great work and great cars! If I lived in America, I would probably ask you to work on my bus.
Why thank you, that's quite a compliment! 🙏
Curiosity, the knob to the right of the ashtray is that a 6 volt cigarette lighter? Was that an option? My 64 does not have that option.
Hmmm, I hadn't noticed what it is, I'll have a look. 👍
I remember a few Bugs back you installed a tachometer that closely matched the speedo in the leftmost portion of dash. That might be a nice fix for the '63.
It's going to go back to a stock speaker grill in that location and then get a couple gauges below the dash in a nice looking holder 👌
On the bus pop out the bracket for it is so you can have a none pop out there for Certain style buses not all buses have pop outs in the same location The ones that are formed in is usually where a popout goes so its not sticking out .
That makes sense. Still seems like they could have just pressed that feature into that location too though.
Aye I know that black car! And the owner! SUBSCRIBED!
Oh hahaha, small world. I met him in person today, super cool guy for sure! 😎
WW look cool on the little 61 vert 😎 Just a bit of spaghetti but you do a great job getting it right with even wire length. Waaaaaaaaat??? A rag top! Yea man 👍🏻 looks like that should polish out well given the overall, you’re right. You should show Robert doing some polishing work 😃 oooohhhh the ox blood interior will look killer in that black car! CU Tomorrow 👋🏻😁
Thanks Stew! Yes, this ragtop is a super cool car, it has tons of potential for sure!
Is it Wicked Wednesday already?! Where’s the time go 😁 I think you guys are dreading tackling those skylight windows. I always liked the window bars 👍🏻 gonna be a pretty dramatic change with the carpet in the bus. Ooooohhhh WW tires 😁 ❤ the tan dash rail and the stitching main dash looks almost AUDI which is A-ok 👌🏻 DC is gonna be epic 👊🏻 Octavio does such pristine work 👍🏻 this was a really great episode 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thanks Stew. That's kind of what I was thinking on the dash stitching, looks like a premium European car thing. Unfortunately the carpet and walkthrougb section of the bus didn't get done today.
Great work, I enjoy watching your content! I do have a question. What color green is that on the double cab?
Thanks James, glad you like our content! Sorry, I dont know the color, it's a custom color from some hot rod shop i beleive.
The color combo dash on the DC is perfect, and the stitching looks at home. At my age, my eye starts to twitch when you show the EV, I guess I have gasoline in my blood. Octavio is an artist. Thanks, Rick….. 🌴
Hahaha about your eye twitching! 😆 EV aside, its shaping up into an exceptionally nice car.
Double cab dash (test) fit has made a world of difference - it looks really smart. The stitching is very cool, but i take your point about only fitting into a custom truck, not a full resto. You are lucky to have Octavio close by - such incredible, detailed quality in the interiors by him and team!
Thanks Robert! We are indeed lucky, we work with a bunch of really great shops!
It's all great vws every time! I love two samba buses😍 My split bus was also delivered the other day, but the brake fluid leaked and I'm going to send it for repair right away😂
Congrats on the bus! Eek, glad you're getting the brakes fixed!
Keep up the awesome work! 😎🫵🏾
Thanks Jaime! We'll do our best! 🙌
That fender looks like sepia brown now, the car looks burgundy in some frames, still cool though and you have Weber’s,awesome 👌🏻😎
Yeah, that fender is pretty close to sepia. The rest of the car definitely has some red in it. I was happy it has Webers!
Those bay windows again! Uuhhhhhgghhh 😂 lots a fiddly stuff under the dash 🤷🏼 that poor UD is more 💩 brown 😁 looks better though. Does that motor turn over at all, any compression?
I couldn't beleive those windows, damn! The brown is a pretty poor match, but a much better match than silver would have been 🤣 I haven't tried any of those things yet.
Those buses are a pain in the bus. Several life times ago, I had a 61 356. I could never afford another Porsche again, plus I had a family to transport around. That 911 could be my dream project car, so take your time with her, she deserves it. You are very lucky that the fender lined up so well ! Thanks, Rick….. 🌴
Thanks Rick! Yeah, so much more complicated than split window buses! The Targa will be a fun project for sure. Looking forward to the first drive!
You should checkout the Rudy Klein Porsche and other cars auction on 26 October, they might have some parts for your Porsche.
Thanks, I'll check it out!
Oh no - not skylight fitting issues again! What a pain for you! I like the slightly downbeat look of the Porsche - great panel fit, though, regardless of the colour shade!
Thanks Robert. Yeah, those windows... 🤪 The brown is kind of growing on me lol. But it will NOT stay that way for ever!
Wondering if you and Todd considered pulling the engine as the first step, as opposed to pulling the carbs. Limited shop space maybe?
No, we hadn't discussed that. In fact, Todd wants me to try firing it up without going through the carbs lol. I'm definitely going through them first, the look terrible on the outside and probably worse on the inside.
I heard somewhere that the front skylight window are slightly shaped different than the other three.
I haven't heard that. This is a replacement roof though, as was the one on the red bus. I think the shape of the skylight openings is off on them. Last bus we did with an original roof they went in much easier.
Bus is looking amazing
Thanks Jaime, it's a real beauty!
I could just imagine that ugly duckling the way its gonna come out , 🤌🏽😎🫵🏾
Thanks man. We'll see, I'm not going to go too crazy with it, too much $$$
Please change those rear bumper guards for chrome ones and delete the front ones, a bit more hot rod then and a dual tip muffler,👌🏻😎
The car came with a set of nice chrome rear guards and yes, I'll probably delete the front ones. 🙌
👍
🙌
Very lucky that there appears to be almost no damage to the structure despite the mangled front fender. Also - a big win to find the adjustable sway bars!
Thanks Robert. Yes, very lucky. And I'm stoked about the adjustable bars. Also found out today it's got Turbo lower valve covers, another cool upgrade.
