How to Frame Your Art
Просмотров 7185 лет назад
In this video I explain how I go about framing my artwork. Whether you just purchased one of my pieces (unframed) or you're an artist trying to figure out how to go about framing, this framing method will work for scratchboard art or any medium on paper that is matted. In this example, I use offsets instead of a framing backing board to secure the piece which might happen if you have a piece of...

    So I have varnished it but I don’t want to frame it, however I need to package it for travel. I am planning to wrap it in normal gift wrapping paper and then between two cardboard backings. Is this ok or do I also need something else to protect first such as material or plastic over the artwork?

    • @ChelseaAynaArt
      @ChelseaAynaArt 3 месяца назад

      @@cookie4u2 You will want to use either parchment paper or glassine paper. If I were shipping it like that, I would wrap in either one of those two, and secure (possibly tape) the backside of the board to the bottom of the inside of a T-shirt gift box so nothing other than the paper touches the surface. I would also instruct the customer that they will want to frame it sooner rather than later and remind them that nothing should sit directly on top of the parchment/glassine/board surface. The more pressure of anything touching the surface there is, the more likely it can stick to or mark the varnish 😊

    Did the piece you varnished and framed behind glass fail because the glass was in contact with the surface of the varnished piece? Or did you have an air gap between your glazing and your finished piece? If the varnished piece were mounted say in a shadowbox type frame with a significant air gap would that be an issue in your experience? Does it matter if the glazing is plexi instead of glass?

    • @ChelseaAynaArt
      @ChelseaAynaArt 8 месяцев назад

      Yes, it failed because the varnished piece was in contact directly with the glass sitting on top. As long as there is separation between the artwork and glass there shouldn’t be any issues. I am not sure on plexi vs glass but I feel like the same thing would happen. To my knowledge, one of the only types of surfaces that that sit on top of varnished scratchboard is glassine or parchment paper that I learned recently.

    • @jeffborkowski
      @jeffborkowski 8 месяцев назад

      @@ChelseaAynaArt ok, that makes sense. nothing should ever be in contact with glazing when archival framing anyway. same thing would happen to an emulsion on a photo for example. and good to know glassine is viable for storage/transport interleaving. absent every piece being framed which isn't practical.

    I used to have a high-quality Canon ink jet - had a gray and 2 blacks. It also had built-in slide/negative scanning. It had specifically said to not use a surge protector so I complied, only to have a lightning strike a few blocks away that took out major appliances all over - and it took out my printer. Fabulous printer and I'm assuming you are busy with your babe now. :D I now have a Canon laser printer. I got tired of the refill business. I did discover that if you are not going to be using your printer, turn it off. That will park the print heads and basically plug them up. When it is on, it will continue to clean the printheads and that is why I have loved my Canon inkjet prints. For the years I've used one, I honestly have never had one bad print. I had several Epsons and that was a major problem, even though they supposedly had 100 year ink. If you couldn't get a good print, who wants a bad print 100 years from now?

    • @ChelseaAynaArt
      @ChelseaAynaArt 2 года назад

      @@sjbrueck haha yes! It is a lot of info! I will confess that I definitely don’t feel well rounded in marketing yet. I went offline with Etsy for 1-2 years and before that I didn’t really dive into really marketing my prints much. Foot traffic has always been great at art shows but I haven’t quite pushed online yet. In terms of physical marketing materials, over the years my brand and style just kind of evolved...exploring templates on Vistaprint for business cards and materials also helped inspire my style of branding I wanted to take as well.
