Good desktop review and thanks for having both together for comparison. I have been using the Suunto compasses (MC2G and M3G) and very happy with them apart from the 2 degree resolution. I also have the Cammenga lensatic but that also has low res at 3 degrees. I was looking at the Truarc 10 which has 1 degree res but the fact that the baseplate has only one straight side it is not ideal given it is a map baseplate compass. Have you had any restrictions due to the one only straight side. Cheers from Australia.
I like an excellent knife. If I’m likely going to need to split a good amount of kindling, a small froe doesn’t take any more space than that knife. Fashion a handle for your froe with your excellent knife. The splitting froe has the right taper and temper for its purpose as does your excellent ,scalpel like, knife. The froe blade ,including the tapered eye, can be the length of your whole excellent knife. The fact is, if you build a knife robust enough to take the abuse of a splitting tool and pry bar, your still going to need an “excellent” scalpel like knife. I’ve been looking for that knife for months. I hold Victorinox in the highest regard. They are true masters at the craft. The grind on their meat processing knives is perfect for the task. What they accomplish in that factory is almost unimaginable. Congratulations on getting your hands on one.👍 and thanks.
I have the previous version of these and they are optically superb. However I noticed that the focusing wheel is wobbly and imprecise which is inexcusable on these high priced binos. You won't have this problem in Japanese binos.
Nice comparison, overall from far and the less knowledgeable, one is dress piece the other is toll looking.
Wery bad loudness nothing worth
Thanks for the sharing. Would it be hard to pick things from bottom of skarab? coz it's deep and the opening is not large enough
Maybe I am late, but i saw 1 month old comments, so im gonna try to ask :) I have a pair of Jamo 100W rms/150W max standing speakers. I know they are not the best, but these where my first speakers as a kid 20 years ago :) I am using a sharp amp that has 2x40W power (and is at least as old as my speakers). My problem is the connectivity, but also, when i turn on 50% power and try some rock music it feels like the speaker is vibrating/distorting. I was wondering if i buy an AS-301 could it drive the speaker better? Or do I need the AS-501? Or maybe my loudspeakers are old, and they never will sound good? Electronic music with big bass sounds okay, but guitar and drum kills it. My primary use case wound be to hook it up to the TV, and see movies. Sometimes listen to music. It is not a necessity, but i thought if I have a pair of big speakers why not use them?
WORTHLESS video! Who cares about Nichicon capacitors??
I have the AS-301 and it's surprisingly good. Sounds like a lot more than 30 watts/channel.
Agree!
In my country it's 271€ (Sony) vs. 345€ (Yamaha). I'd go for Yamaha because of the loudness, as I have to listen at low levels.
Along with the excellent Quality!
Thank you - this was helpful for sized comparison of the two!
No Problem!
Hi there. As I have it, those "ramps" in the handle are for gripping the knife "chef-style" for slicing. The thumb and forefinger nestle in there as one grips the blade. Very clever. The hex lanyard hole - This is actually rather important, especially in a survival kind of application. The ability to drill holes adds a whole dimension to camping/survival. The choice of 1/4inch is important as one can get bits in multiple sizes as well as the one that comes with the Venture system kit (20mm), which it seems you did not order. A spade bit is much lighter and less bulky than those awful Scotch augers one often sees. It's interesting to hear you think of the Falkniven as a survival knife. In my opinion a survival knife needs to be much bigger (Becker BK9, Fallkniven Modern Bowie or CS Trail Master). Your characterisation of where the Venture fits in tallies with mine (and that of Felix Immler, Mr Victorinox!). Nice review! Cheers mate.
Awesome! Thanks for filling us in on the additional uses and features of the Victorinox. I think the Fallkniven was actually designed as a Swedish military pilot survival knife... that is why think of it that way.
@@MediaPipeDream Something like the ESEE 5?
i dont think Sony could just add digital inputs, banana plug binding posts and a sub out and keep it the same price. The main point of difference is the integrated DAC of the Yamaha. The RS- 202 by Yamaha would be a better comparison for price and features.
Totally agree
Have you tried WM1Z compared to this WM1A?
Nope
@@MediaPipeDream thanks bud
Why does he keep saying SLC`s ? Stupid and annoying for people researching bino`s...
You should probably watch the video from start to finish, before calling it stupid. You are confused. In the video, I am referring to the now discontinued Swaro SLC 8x42 (not the companion CL B in 8x30). I am using that as a reference point in comparing the other binoculars. At the start of the video there are a list a binoculars that I discuss, you obviously skipped that part.
Believe it or not the Tuner in the Sony STR 190 isn't bad at all. I've heard many negative reviews on it but maybe i live in a more receptive area, i'm pulling in plenty of stations crisp and clear. With that being said, i'm using the Tuner section as a stand alone component hooked up to the Yamaha A S301 so i'm getting the best of both worlds. I would have kept the Sony STR 190 as my main unit but running my 4 OHM Wharfedales made me uneasy so i upgraded to the A S301 which can handle the 4 OHM load. But you can't go wrong with either units for the price.
Good to know the tuner is good. Thanks!
@@MediaPipeDream You're welcome.
Had a first version talon 44, bought Jan 2010. I did my mountain Guiding courses with it. Travelled hundreds of times with it. Skiing, alpinism, trekking, bushcrafting, dessert, roughness....really heavy duty stuff. And now, only now is starting to tear a bit. Itsthe best, lightest most comfortable baflg i ever had. Even better than my Millet Epic. Wpic is bit more padding but heavier and bunquier. The first/modified first version of talon was something unique. As i said I'm a mountain guide, and have been carrying backpacks outdoors since 1991... I don't know why they just fuck up with good perfect features. What's the purpose???? We're not fashion killers. We don't care about feature modernity shit . And still the osprey is the best in the market.
agreed! Glad to hear confirmation from an experienced individual!
Informative review, thanks!
No problem!
I agree that a sub out on the Sony would be an awesome addition, but at $148 you can't complain. I use it in a 2.1 setup and as you stated, having the ability to turn toggle the subwoofer on/off with the remote is super convenient. I also find the option to adjust the bass/treble via the remote puts it over the top.
agreed
Great stuff!
Glad you think so!
How sad an adult is so obsessed with trivia, your perspective is on what is important in life is badly distorted.
tell me you cant afford a Rolex without telling me you cant afford a Rolex 😂
HAHA, thanks!
Thank you for the kind words! Your feedback has prompted me to give up all my worldly possessions and become a monk to focus on what is important life! Up until this point these two RoLeX timepieces is what my world revolved around. This is just what I needed to reevaluate my life which was ownership of these TWO!! ROLEXESES. Now I only have 1. I smashed the other. I will join the Dalai LAMA with his ROLEXeseses (he has a few) on the path to enlightenment. Jokes aside..... Bro.... It is a youtube video meant to go over detail and comparisons of 2 very similar watches. I agree the differences are minute. Considering by the performance of the video it seems that watch enthusiasts enjoy the level of detail I discuss. So people may want to see differences side by side. It is just a hobby. Now G-shocks and Casios that is what is really important in life.
Hey, I have a question. I am about to buy B&W 603 s2 speakers from 2020, but I don't have an amp yet. my room is 60 m^2 5x12m. which one should I go with between the as301 501 701 and 801?
501 701 or 801, 301 will still do just fine.
Good informative review. Thanks for sharing.
Glad it was helpful!
I'm with nikon 200-500mm f5.6 and nikon d750. I'm about to get monarch m7 10x42. The question is can i spot any difference between monarch HG vs m7 and swarovski nl 8x32 (for example)?
yes. There is going to be a big difference between the M7/HG to the NL. The M7 to the HG, difference is very small. If there is a big price difference between the 2 I would go with the M7. If you can get an NL, get that and be done and never look back.
@@MediaPipeDream Thank you:)!
My shop rig is a Yamaha AS501 with Elac Debut 2.0 B5.2 speakers. Very smooth.
Nice good to hear!
Companion 8x30 is only slightly cheaper than NL pure 8x32. Is it more worthwhile to get NL pure in your opinion?
The 8/30 CL companion is around £1080, while the NL pure 8/32 is around £2240 (UK, June 2024). I have a pair of the 10x32 NL pure, and as good indeed as the CL companion undoubtedly are, they are in a different category when compared side by side with the NL Pure.
if you can get an NL for close to the price of the Companion 8x30 I would hands down go for the NLs. NLs will be bigger. I have the Zeiss SF 8x42 as a full size and the Companion as a compact. The NL 8x32 could be both in one. Sometimes I wonder if I should have got 1 alpha 8x32 for everything.
Para la gente ke dice ke los cuchillos de plástico no son cuchillos ,yo les digo ke aguantan el mal trato mil veces mejor ke los de madera,y lo saben pero no lo admiten, prefieren belleza a funcionalidad
Es la verdad!
Good video though. Good commentary.
Glad you enjoyed. Thanks!
The price tag on the venture is a bit too rich for my blood -- $100 CAD. I just can't justify that when I can get a Swedish made Mora in stainless steel for under $20.
Can't agree more. You really get everything you would ever need with the Mora line up, esp the Non HD Companion! Guilty to say, often that is my go to esp. for rough use.
I was thinking about buying a venture, but I think I will choose mora kansbol. Preparing meals.
Full flat is better than scandi for food. I have Venture , like it better than mora or hultafors.
For food prep, I would really suggest the Venture for the full flat grind. The scandi and food prep is kinda annoying.
A very well used F1! 👍
Yes. Definitely my favorite Blade.
Nice overview of an interesting knife, man. 👍 I might give one of those Ventures a try!
I too was on the fence, but my curiosity got the best of me. Glad it did, love the knife. It is right between the F1 and the Mora. I need to use it more, but I think my F1's top spot is threatened. I will know more after use and sharpening experience.
If excellent and expensive are not for u a pleonasm, u mor*n
Great video and thanks for the compare.
Glad you enjoyed!
Additionally I read somewhere the midrange driver in these is wired reversed-phased compared to the tweeter and woofer. Not at all certain why Yamaha did that.
I read/heard that too. Thanks for sharing!
Can the S801 DAC be used as a substitute/replacement for a 2ch audio-interface (eg: Focusrite 2i2, Universal Audio Volt 2, etc.)… for recording into a computer (and not just for computer playback). I know it’s supposed to be used for playback/convert digital stuff into the analog/amp, like computer-usb-out into amp-usb-in. But, can the DAC’s USB also record external sources into computer? (like recording a dj mix from dj mixer outs, or recording a music-production from Mackie desktop mixer outs, etc.)
No, only input to amp. It will not out put usb to computer (ex: mic to amp to computer, can't do that)
Thanks for this review these are the two I was looking at. I think I’ll get the skarab because it’s a little cheaper.
I Love the skarab, it is a total mule. Lightweight as well.
Still using mine ❤😎👍 ima shameless Sony Walkman fanboy
Likewise!
This kind of review what im looking for
Thanks, Just uploaded a Victorinox Venture review. Was pretty impressed, check it out!
Why is everything so expensive in a america I have that bowl and paid £11 / 13 dollars in uk I brought it because it reminded me of baking with my nan
not sure why everything is so expensive.
@MediaPipeDream I do collect them but I only pay pennies from a nice home shop called dunelm, I would say £16 being my most expensive and £8 my cheapest but I do love them
Is this hip belt removable?
yes, but the plastic hardware will stay. they nylon straps can slip out with some force.
Kudos! Great video. Very thorough👍
Glad it was helpful!
I just purchased a 701 (no dac) brand new for $650. Definitely would have gone with the 501 but at $650 i couldn't pass up the 701 Pairing it with my wharfedale diamond 12.2 bookshelf speakers, a klispch s120 sub and Technics SL1200MK2 turntable
Very Nice!
Your voice is TERRIBLE !
Glad i have theold one! Great video
Me too! It is much more comfortable.
Is the new one taller? looks taller in the video. Worried about personal item size
you should be able to take it on to a plane as personal item. Not really that much taller. very subtlety
These can be modded to vastly improve the sound. I found the tweeter to be too harsh and swapped them out in favor of Tympani soft dome types. I swapped the factory butterfield cross-overs for a pair from Infinity two-way speakers and don't use the midrange drivers except to simply plug the holes. I also converted the cabinet to bass reflex by adding two port tubes to each cabinet front. Very small tubes perhaps a little over one inch. I also added acoustic batting inside to smooth bass and absorb hollow box resonance. A lot of mods but in the end they sound decent and far more enjoyable. A 3-way crossover such as a Infinity Reference 5 could also be used and keep the midrange operating but I think I would in that case add a L-pad on the mid to tone it down. One oddity with these from the factory is the mids are wired reverse polarity.
Huh, that is interesting, will need to check the mid drivers out and fix it. thanks for the tip
Bought Japanese version (new) on ebay for $400
Nice most used ones are going for more than that
Very Nice, that is a steal!
Good thing you didn’t try the Leica Noctivids and the Swarovski NL’s. I’d also like to mention you can’t appreciate and or see the optical qualitative differences looking through an upper mid grade to an alpha level bino in a store for a few minutes. You have to live with them a week or two to clearly see the differences.
I agree with the store comment. I was able to decern CA levels to a level I was comfortable with purchasing. I have yet to have an opportunity to look though a pair of NLs. I have read that between the 3 alphas (swaro, zeiss & leica) it kinda boils down to personal preference than sheer raw optical performance. Ex: one my have some more sharpness but more glare or one might have excellent contrast but more CA.
@@MediaPipeDream All good points , and some people can be more or less sensitive to some of those characteristics. But I don’t believe most people will deny that Leica produces more color saturation than the Zeiss and Swaro. Although I like them all, I find the Leica to have an overall more rich image characteristics..
Oldest is about to head off to college and I'm beginning to think about what he will need to start out in life. Very thoughtful presentation.
Thanks. Glad it helped. Ya, in college a small desk kit with allen keys was super helpful. If they are going to have a vehicle, I suggest having a vehicle specifc tool kit that stays in the vehicle (of course proper skills are necessary). I made a video on that: ruclips.net/video/WZmoe7F8vNo/видео.html
