Here's my headcam from this past season with the 2023 Blue Devils! It was an awesome experience I'm super grateful for, and wanted to share just a little bit of that with y'all. These are a mash up of 2 videos from the Colts Practice Facility leading up to finals and the victory run. If you have any questions, feel free to comment and I'll be sure to answer! David
Blue Devils 2023 Trumpet Audition Video - David Cardoze

Update: Now public, thought this would be a good resource eventually for someone. I ended up getting contracted for the 2023 season with the Blue Devils! I ended up not actually needing a video audition as I just did it in person, so I'm not sure if some of the staff even saw this lol. Coming from bent leg my box drill was meh haha but I'm getting the hang of our long leg technique! Instagram: ...

August 1st, 2022, Rehearsal in Roanoke, VA, at William Fleming High School Hello everyone, I marched 3rd trumpet with the 22 SCV Brass. This was the only opportunity I had to do a GoPro run, which was almost 2 weeks before finals, so there's some small things here and there that changed to be the final product that you can probably find on RUclips somewhere lol. Wasn't my best run (promise my f...
Ok david show me how to join bd

5:40 Pokémon Black White Trainer moment 🦊
so cool!!!
What do you suggest being able to do on the horn before auditioning for a Corp??
Most corps may be able to provide you a horn as long as you communicate that to make sure for auditions! Otherwise if you have your own, I’d recommend to try to bring yours in as that is what you are most comfortable with. Then after if things go well they will provide you with a corps horn for the summer!
no way you switched from alto to trumpet. that's what i want to do someday.
You can do it
Congrats on section leader 🔥🔥
Me you on the same page, I’m a sophomore in high school playing alto sax and I’m learning trumpet rn, and I’m really hoping to be on BD
Keep it up!
I love you
The bad news is you didn't make the hornline. The good news is welcome to the colorguard. Now cough up $5000.
May i ask what is the visual between the zigzags for? Does it add to the audition or just flare? I need to know👊
The zig zag itself was part of the audition materials, and in the sample video provided the person does that visual in between so I did it lol
:D
0:15 🫣
Had to do it to em!
DAAAAVIIIIIDDD!!!!!!!
What part are you??
I played 2nd in 2023 and lead in 2024!
Do you happen to have the audition packet for 2023?
Exceptional playing! Especially for someone who only recently switched to brass. Congrats on getting a spot. Welcome to the family!
Wow that was a lot, the 3 auditions I did this season have only been 4-5 things, congratulations!!
So much for two more :/
Lol I know right
Good work!! It’s crazy the difference of what I went through in 97 for BDs. We didn’t get retakes or edits. It was all in person, in front of everyone!
They still have in person audition camps and you are more likely to get a contract in person
Opinion: show never really took off and seemed to cruise all season long. I watched y’all early in socal and saw the potential of what this show could be but that’s about where it stayed
Good luck!!
Rip
Great job! You move really well! Congrats on your contract! That SCV OTM assignment was a trip since I marched that show. Hope you have a great summer!
Ah no way that’s so cool, I think most or all scv alum share a collective love for Scheherazade!
Congrats man, hope you do wel!
Promo`SM ✅
Weird to see something like this in my recommended, but im not complaining
RUclips wanted me to see this today
It happens, hope it was entertaining lol
This dude is Fased and Bactual, love you David
Awe love you man thank you !
Tad bit of tomfoolery
Only a little goes a long way!
Separate
So true
Is this considered high level playing for DCI stuff? I'm a Brit so no clue what the playing is normally like; I only know from a brass banding sense
Everyone is at different playing in DCI and even in the Blue Devils. Sure there's a standard, which overlooks a lot of things like musicality, tone, range, and seeing if you can perform up to the standards that they want in the show, but it's not everything that determines if you make it. The visual side of the audition is just as important and if you were an excellent player but lacked visually you would have a way harder chance of getting in. There's also your attitude and teachability which counts. I'm definitely not the best player in the trumpets but I was contracted in one of the "best" drum corps¯\_(ツ)_/¯.
goofy aw skips
Hey I don't ask questions lol
Coming from a former tuba player and present day bagpiper from Upland also graduated in 2021 - congrats!
Thank you!
Maybe this will help? ruclips.net/video/kc7rhOrUtwI/видео.html
No shot a running cartwheel and skipping is required for BD auditioning 😭
Fun skill to learn lol
This is especially entertaining when you double the video speed.
Lmao
@@DavidCardozeSop I played lead trumpet back in my college days. Moved on to other musical endeavors, but still have good memories of those high school and college band days.
Its not bad at all...keep up the good work bro...🎉🎺👍👏🇹🇩
Congratulations!! I am a fellow Charter Oak Grad., and I helped out the CO Brass many years ago. My kids are also CO grads who marched PC. I marched Kingsmen, but turned down invites from Wayne Downey and Gail Royer. A lot simpler when I marched. Good luck, Have fun and remember to Breathe...... See you on the 50.
Wow what a small world! Thank you very much for your comment, hope you enjoy our show this year!
There's more demand in this 12 minute video than in a 12 min bd show. u good
What the heck did RUclips just suggest me, I have no idea whats going on.
Way to go, David!!!
DCI auditions changed a lot from when i marched
I suppose we'll see you in Houston Texas for the Final Four April 1st?
Unfortunately not. I'm on spring break right now and the day I would fly out to Houston there's unavoidable plans that were made. Really happy for the basketball team tho, the trumpets are gonna kill it as always!
Just beautiful I'm glad I found this :) amazing to everyone
Thank you very much!
the kid at 7:02 🤣
The show goes on
