Roadways of Delaware
США
Добавлен 1 ноя 2020
This is a RUclips account dedicated to showcasing roads, bridges, and tunnels, particularly in Delaware and along the Delmarva peninsula, in a "drivelapse" format similar to other channels on RUclips (think FreewayJim, FreewayBrent, JMV FRVA, etc), though with less finesse than their videos.
I hope you enjoy what I can show you here!

Corvette Goes Topless in Rush Hour Traffic (MD-32, Fort Meade)
Просмотров 246Месяц назад
Okay, I admit this is one of the stupidest videos I could possibly make. On the way home from West Virginia, a Corvette merged into MD-32 from the Baltimore/Washington Parkway. As we were sitting in traffic at the NSA interchange, the Corvette put its top down. I'm pretty sure this is the first time I've seen (in-person) a convertible taking its top off, so it was great that I got it on video. ...

Very relaxing drive, I enjoyed every moment of it.
The CT 157 signage is in the wrong spot. It should be up a little farther into Middletown near the Walgreens past the Home Depot plaza. Jackson Hill Rd (where it is), does eventually meet CT 157 and is more straight and direct, but it’s not a signed route.
Delaware is a different state than Connecticut.......
Ah Cambridge… my neck of the woods 😐
That helps. Thanks
Waste of time, never shows the swamp
It's literally passing through the swamp.
This is rare and cool to see a white Corvette folding its roof near Fort Meade, MD.
Great video as always. I always love your chosen music!
I remember when there were nothing but fields along Plantation Rd and rt.24...... nothing but fields meant for growing food. Corn and Lima beans mostly. I grew up on the corner of 24 and rt.1.. I remember when there were woods and farm houses. There was no mall or outlets... So heartbreaking to see the destruction of what was once a beautiful area.
Great video of our highways in our mostly congested state
Delaware is starting to add roundabouts on some roads in the state 😊
I know exactly where you’re going to 0:32
I started driving the BW Parkway in 1967. I would use it late at night sometimes around midnight. I would drive about 15 miles and not see but half a dozen cars. Sometimes seeing how fast I could go with no traffic.
The worst parkway ever. My daughter got hit from behind from the speeding driver who did a hit and run. Thank God she wasn't hurt but shaken up. Her bumper was destroyed.
Never get on the P way
Fun to watch. I've been on every road listed in my 45 years of driving.
this was a great video and a great road trip I havent seen that area in a very very long time it was so much fun to watch
Was this video taken during the height of the pandemic? I asked this question because no one moves that fast on the BW-Parkway anymore. It's always a Parking lot.
No, it's extremely rare I use old footage. This video was on Saturday 8/3/24 around 11:00am.
@@roadwaysofdelaware I was joking with my comment. I have lived in Maryland my entire life. I avoid the BW-Parkway like I avoid the plague. It's a crap shoot almost always backed up, or stop and go..
@@joehawk9839 I feel like a weekend wouldn't be as terrible at least. Bear in mind that I live in Dover, DE, so coming back home, we had to sit in traffic for 40 minutes just to get on the Bay Bridge. As an aside, I have a spreadsheet tracking each of my videos. Comparing to real time, my average speed on this video was 50.1 MPH. I specifically wanted to take the B-W Parkway, because when I was a kid, my father took the B-W Parkway on the way to DC when we went there in 2003. I hadn't been on it in many, many years. If only the mount on my dashcam didn't have problems on this trip and my footage could have come out better... I tried several methods of stabilization (FFmpeg's vidstab library and fiddling with Cinelerra's motion filters), but nothing came out all that great...
Fun and informative video!
Thanks Uncle Tom! I just wish the video came out better...I'll need to head back there some time.

Many moons ago, if Delaware had the foresight of population growth south and west of New Castle County, they could have developed an extension of the Delaware Route 1 Turnpike (except that it would parallel US Route 113 south of Milford) and developed an east-west "Sussex County Turnpike" using Delaware Route 404 (become a MD Route 404 expressway to US Route 50 near the Chesapeake Bay Bridge) and US Route 9 (which would hypothetically, connect to US Route 9 and the GSP via a Delaware Bay version of either the Chesapeake Bay Bridge or Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel).
I did some research last summer at the DE Public Archives and they had some far reaching plans back in the 50s and 60s. I don't think they expected the population to explode like it did though. This is my article on some of what I found: ianpeters.org/roads/deroute1.html I've been curious about how development of higher capacity highways on seasonal coastal routes (e.g. DE/MD-404, NJ-55/47/347, US-13/113) can be justified, especially since traffic can be very minimal in the off season as compared to the summer (I'm honestly of the belief that the completion of NJ-55 isn't economically feasible, I certainly don't think it's feasible for a Delaware Bay Bridge Tunnel...I found a study from the 80s that described why). That's a research project I'm in the midst of.
just a general question: have you done a video of de 1 sb from dover to the delaware beach like lewes, i couldnt find one.
I have a video of Dover to Assateague that basically covers that. On that subject, since I live in Dover, I wouldn't do any video that covers the whole length of DE-1 in one trip, as that wouldn't make sense for me.
You should get off the turnpike at exit 7 for 295. Quicker access.
Do a road tour in NEWARK, DE, Barrets run village lane once please😊
You know you could’ve took I-64 to the HRBT to get there
How was it like leaving Northern New Jersey driving back to Delaware on that day before Easter? Also, that's some tolls to pay (NJTP, Del Mem Brg (westbound only), and DE 1).
The traffic wasn't that bad actually. We drove up and back the same day without issue. Traffic was heavy but it was moving the whole way. Yeah the tolls are ridiculous anymore, that's why I diverted from the NJTP to I-295. I'd normally shunpike the higher Roth Bridge toll on a weekend, but I was too tired to deal with the extra stoplights. I did shunpike the higher Dover toll though.
My favorite road of all time I think is Route 47 from Wildwood to Route 55. Obviously I hate it when hit at the wrong time but been driving on it my entire life, to North Cape May. Same with Route 55.
I love traveling on US 13 in Delaware!
Love the soundtrack
That route brings back a lot of memories when I moved to Harrisburg in 2013. Thank you for the video.
thank you for posting this. i was researching this rt to take a motorcycle trip on from NC north to MD.
I’m very familiar to the eastern panhandle. I have a large historical presence there and the industrial area in Martinsburg is a quarry with a limestone tower. Just pointing that out because, Martinsburg is very industrial. Some of my family lives in the town.
I live in St Clairsville and was born in Wheeling!
I love watching your videos Ian. Your choice of music is fantastic as well!
It looks like it was a great drive. Clear sunny skies with no rain in sight.
I could be wrong, but I believe that on Possum Park Rd, Delaware City's refinery can be visible straight ahead which is near DE-72's southern terminus, funny enough.
Yeah I've covered that area in the past, in my videos of DE-9. We decided to turn onto DE-1 from DE-72, since the rain looked pretty bad and I didn't want to get stuck on a flooded portion of DE-9, especially the section that runs right along the Delaware River through the Augustine Beach area.
@@roadwaysofdelaware I totally understand, but I was asking if you noticed that you could see Delaware City's refinery in distance when traveling down the hill on Possum Park Rd?
@@MrJon92as Oh sorry, now I understand your comment. I don't recall if we saw the refinery this time when we were heading down the hill on DE-72, but I used to live in Newark (I did my masters at UD) and I think I remember seeing it or the Delaware Memorial Bridge in the distance when I drove DE-72 regularly in the past. I do know, on clear days, that you can see the refinery and the Delaware Memorial Bridge in the distance at the top of the hill at the Newark Reservoir Park.
@@roadwaysofdelaware I'm not sure if you're able to see the Delaware Memorial Bridge from Possum Park Rd, but you can see the bridge when driving down the hill on Limestone Rd (which is where the northern terminus of DE-72 is funny enough). Also, can you see the Wilmington skyline from the Newark Reservoir Park as well? And the Roth Bridge?
I greatly enjoyed watching this video. It brought back some wonderful memories, especially during the 8:12 mark with various trips to and from Lincoln University.
feels weird seeing a grade-separated interchange at this intersection.
Yeah. If you're familiar with the grade separation they did at Bowers Beach Road about 5 years ago, this one is being done in a similar manner. DE-1 will be constructed to overpass DE-16.
makes sense.
what day you went on that video
Last Saturday, 7/15/23.
3:05 About the renumbering of I-79 and I-76 Eastern through Pittsburgh into I-279 and I-376, respectively, it happened in *1972* . 5:48 Speaking of I-376, the extension in the 2000s helped drivers take an alternate route of I-79 for drivers going to New Castle PA, Youngstown OH, Akron OH and Cleveland, and even Erie PA which they later took I-80 and back to I-79, but part of the extension between US 422 and PA 51 is tolled and the entire extension was completed in 2009.
Interesting to know. 🧐
I-79 is the closest main interstate to Pittsburgh, but not all 3 main interstates pass through the city limits of Pittsburgh. However, 3 auxillary interstates connect through the city limits of Pittsburgh.
Your first time in Ohio?
another state down!
Can you hear Don't Stop Believing by Journey?
So familiar!!!! And love the drive. Born and raised in Delaware, traveled DE/MD roads growing up, and still travel them. In Kenton, on the corner of 300 & 42, there is a place called the Country Store (at 3:34), that has best fried chicken!!!
It was definitely a nice drive and the weather was perfect. 😊
Just off of DE/MD/PA 896 is the White Clay Creek preserve where there's a trail and a crownstone marking the Wedge bordering the three states.
Never been to Delaware
Sorry I forgot to subscribe to your channel. It was very late in March since I haven't got a chance to do it. I will have you subscribed for a whole month of April until I have to do it very early in May. And I don't have to wait too long. Thanks!
I love that massive 5-way interchange southwest of Wilmington, DE in unincorporated New Castle County, DE.
