Gooooood morning and welcome to my channel!
Main focus on this channel is making sailing videos and exploring the places I visit. I try to keep it simple and real without too much drama.
My current goal is to sail to Faroe Islands in summer of 2024.
I started sailing in 2019 when I sold my car to buy my first 26ft. sailboat without any previous sailing experience. You can see a video of it if you scroll way back.
A year later, I’ve decided to take the leap and started saving money for a Caribbean adventure by living onboard my newly purchased 31ft. Alo 96 (Fishcake). 2 years later I just did that but now in 2023, I’ve sold Fishcake in the Caribbean.
A boatless Dennis didn’t last long…After selling Fishcake and working for half a year i went ahead and purchased my current boat Mikkelangelo. So now I’m broke but happy again!

Sailing a 30ft. sailboat solo across the North Sea | Ep-5 (2024)
In this episode, I’m finally setting off for Shetland Islands. I have been planning this trip for a whole year and worked very hard to make my new boat ready for it. It finally happened! Besides some seasickness issues, the boat and the equipment performed remarkably well.
There’s several reasons to seasickness that I experienced; Coffee pre-departure, anxiety from not knowing how the boat would perform offshore, haven’t sailed solo this far before.
Sorry about the audio level problems which I couldn’t adjust correctly.

First of all, sorry about the sound levels! In this episode, we are continuing our trip from Kristiansand to Just outside of Flekkefjord before heading towards west coast, which will be the next episode. The spring is finally here! Testing the boat with its new gadgets and equipment. Stayed on anchor for the first time and diesel heater kept me nice and warm all night. No luck on crabs but that was my fault for not doing it right but that’s how we learn! Experimenting with some new filming techniques and frame rates. Filmed and edited on IPhone 14.

Hello! I still have more projects to do like, installing solar panels, new main sail, lazy bag . But the weather was quite bad to do outside projects until now. Plans: This years main goal will be sailing to Faroe Islands. I will of course make videos about sailing in Norway. Also want to try some different style videos instead of just usual vlogging. Starting from New Year’s Eve, it snowed non-stop for 6 days straight. Resulting in more than 1 meter snow within the first 3 days :ooo. All the cars were scattered around and got stuck. Public transport is out of order, people can’t go to work or more like, people can’t even open their doors… So I had to save my boat from overwhelming snow it had on top and the most reliable and fun way of gett...

Sailing from Horten in Oslo fjord to my hometown Arendal. This is the first trip with my new boat, Mikkelangelo. I had some issues with starting up the engine because the interior lights and 12v sockets were connected to start battery instead of house battery I found out… so the start battery was empty. I really enjoyed your journey! I've now subscribed. I felt your pain with the seasickness! Next time, wait 25 minutes after being sick before drinking or eating. It gives your stomach some time to settle. But you did really well and battled through.
Hi Dennis. Love your channel. And on seasickness: Drink water mixed with Coca Cola, 50/50. I never got seasick, touch wood, but it helped many of my crew. Not all.

I had forgotten that trick
I've found that canned peaces are the best sea sickness food. They proved energy, and best of all, they taste the same coming up as they did going down. 😂

Well done! I did the same trip from Bergen to Lerwick in 2016. I had the best of times in Lerwick! Beautiful people. If it wasn’t for the weather I would still be there.

When the going gets tough, the tough get going 💪 Great video. Good technique…Getting to the rail in time and on the lee side. ✊ I don’t get sea sick myself but for when I have crew I recommend ginger flavoured sweets and ginger biscuits. Once ashore I always find alcohol helps 😊 Looking forward to the Faroes instalment.

I often just drift with my Albin Vega 27, when I'm fishing. I have a 200 liter chest freezer and when it's full I have food for 11-12 months. It can take weeks to fill and I'm just drifting.

Waarschijnlijk ken je ze wel, de pleisters tegen zeeziekte die je achter je oor kunt plakken. Schijnen goed te werken en werken een paar dagen. Hey! I am thinking about that stuff too. But I have no experience at all. And really want to safe money for a small sailboat to learn the ocean navigation.
@@MateyCrook I started with no experience at all 5 years ago. Sold my car and bought a 25 ft. Boat. asked the seller to teach me the basics and took it from there. It’s absolutely possible! Hope you make it :)

In the old days when the Vikings sailed to Iceland there were some seasick people on board and they put them ashore in the Faroe Islands but the strong ones continued to Iceland😀 but nice to watch!
I only had 3 weeks to get there and back again. Otherwise I would definitely continue ⛵️
Check if the reduced visibility due to your solar panels obscuring the view to the horizon is affecting your susceptibility to seasickness....just a thought.
I don’t think so but good point. it wasn’t a problem after Shetlands. I made some mistakes though such as; drinking coffee pre departure, I was hungry for too long, pre departure anxiety which can’t be helped 😅

Lay on your side not your back . It takes out one of the axis for your inner ear almost instant relief . ( But you will feel like &!++ When you get up) Also glaciated ginger works well. Finally sickness wrist bands will work for you or not, but if they do they are miraculous over time . Thanks for the video.
I did actually laid on my side and it helped quite a bit. But noise cancelling earbud on the left ear did wonders! Didn’t discover that before after Shetlands though heheh

Promethazine used by Nasa for astronaughts worked for me called phenargen in UK.
Vel gjennomført💪 Ville prøvd Scopoderm plaster mot sjøsyke. Skal være bra, med mindre man får bivirkninger😵💫
Kjøpte piller på Shetland men ble søvnig. Brukte det som sovetabletter 🤪. Ørepropp med noise cancelling på venstre øre var det beste løsningen fant jeg ut av etterhvert :)

Pleide aldri å bli SÅ sjøsyk så tenkte ikke på det. Men beste løsningen må være ørepropp med noise cancelling på venstre øre ;o fant ut av det etterhvert…
