    This result is obvious as this models have humbuckers with a true thick sound. I can also ote that many famous players Marty Friedman use "Les Paul" from builders that only share the body's shape and are indeed much lighter and playable, and in the case of mr. Friedman is a Jackson.

      @@manolohalkhoholikh2471 yeah Marty Friedman uses Jakson and I've seen him playing Ibanez too, all LP shape. The guitar in this video is the first Gibson I've ever played and I never liked them for 2 reasons the price and its weird ergonomic. But I have to admit 🖐😄 it sounds kick ass! I used to overlook the Gibson Humbuckers but now I understand why there is son much hype with these things .

    Do happen to know how you have this setup? Relief in the neck measurement and possibly string height. Thanks ❤️. I just got one myself.

    • @joathescientist
      @joathescientist Год назад

      Hi M.Sav88 ! I think I know haha, at least the way I do it. I probably should do a video, it's easier to show rather than explain. But here we go! Changing the strings is the easy part. As a general rule, if you want closer the strings to the fretboard at the lower notes (frets 1,2,3) you need some neck relief but if you want the strings closer to your 24th fret you need to reduce the height of the bridge at that level. The bridge "Nova parts" have a system that you need to remove the string to be able to adjust the individual strings (a bit of a pain in the ass), but at least it gives you control of each string separately. There no consensus on how many mm you need at the 12 freet, some people say 4 or 5 should be fine. The bottom line is how comfortable is for you and how much freet buzz you get. The closer to the fretboard the easier to play, but more fret buzz. The fret buzz may/ may not affect the tone.

    • @joathescientist
      @joathescientist Год назад

      Also, remember... If you change the stings for the same gauge you should be fine in terms of intonation. But if you change the gauge dramatically, you may need to give the neck some release or tension depending of the gauge of the new set of strings. The neck relief is achieved by turning the trust road counter-clockwise (if you look at the guitar from the bottom body part). Let's say, you increase the gauge of the strings to a 070 set "you may need" to increase the tension of the neck to compensate (release a bit the truss rod), also the height of the stings may need to be adjusted as well due to too much buzz (increase the hight in each individual saddle)

      @@joathescientist I prefer the Fireball 25 to the 100 watt version. I like the 50 too. But 25 is more than enough wattage for me. I played clubs in L.A. for years during the height of the metal scene in the 80s with a Boogie 50 Caliber combo and it was more than adequate to rock a club and be heard over the loud drummers I worked with. I used 25 and 30 watt amps as well and they worked. It's all about how you mic it. The best sound comes not from the direct sound of an amp at a gig but how well you mic it up.

    • @joathescientist
      @joathescientist Год назад

      @@angusorvid8840 Same here! Who really needs a 100W for home practice or recording? 25W is more than enough even for rehearsals. I did not have the chance to try the Boogie 50 Caliber combo but I bet it is a good amp. When I started playing in bands I used a Peavey Bandit 100W it was more than enough to keep up with any drummer. I think tone should be the focus, not volume, and as you said micing is critical in live scenarios. And I would add a good live sound engineer, that's all I need.

    Hey Joa! I bumped into Valravn on Facebook on a guitar forum. I saw the specs and looked at the guitar and thought, WOW what a fantastic guitar, to bad it’s probably 2-3 thousand dollars. Nope, it was 1,200. Amazed but also skeptical. How is the quality control on Valravn? Now owning it for a month now? Any new words?

    • @joathescientist
      @joathescientist Год назад

      Hi Ophidian! Thanks for watching. This one was about 1,400 (shipping to Au is a pain). I think, for this money I got A LOT of guitar. Looking at other brands, Strandberg guitars are made in Indonesia by any means are better in terms of quality than these made in Ukraine. Looking at other types of guitars, Japanese-made Ibanez prestige costs about the same here. While the prestige line has a certain level of obsession with details and great CQ, Valravn offers a new flavor. You get a guitar that most likely will be unique, in terms of color, weight, balance, etc. On top of that, this is the most comfortable guitar I've ever played, second comes my Ibanez prestige, and in third place is my beloved Kiesel. The construction of this Valravn is solid, and the raw finish (no gloss at all) gives character to the instrument. This sets apart this brand from a super ultra-polished all-gloss ESP or Ibanez. This guitar shows grains and texture, you see the 3 pieces of the body glued together. It's a very original and unique feeling. My only "complaint" would be the inlays. Apparently, a cavity is made first and then filled up with epoxy+wood. At first look, I thought they were painted and honestly, kinda devalue the overall look. The bridge is okay, now I got used to it. Maybe a more solid-looking bridge would suit it better. But in terms of playability is great, I've been playing it quite often and I think I had to tune it 3 times max. This is the cheapest model they make, I guess if you order a 100% custom guitar (all the bells and whistles) must be a phenomenal instrument.

      The EVH delivers fury, it goes so well with nasty humbuckers like the dimebucker. EVH is a great/affordable amp but is super noise in between notes. I prefer the Engl because it has a super tight/focus distortion and when you put down the guitar there is silence. It has a built-in noise gate. How it should be in 2020/21. Plus, is made in Germany, it has some different flavor (craftmanship).

      Yes, it was a phone recording. Bro you are going to love it. Now, I have the 5150, seating aside. The noise gate removes all the hiss and does not color the tone, not even a bit. This is built-in, is not a pedal that was attached to the back. Probably, they figured out the way to make it super responsive. Additionally, you will notice (if you are used to the 5150) when you put pedals in the effect loop of ENGL 25 they come back to live, The clarity of the tone you get changes for the better! This is great for room practice, but also loud enough for a full band sound. Go for it, and let me know your thoughts !

    • @joathescientist
      @joathescientist 3 года назад

      Before buying this one, I spent a couple of hours playing the MT-15, while I liked it I still prefer the ENGL Fireball 25. For two reasons, tone and quality build. My amp came all the way from Germany to Australia, the box was beaten to dead, probably left under the water or maybe pissed on. When the amp arrived, I immediately thought "shit, I will have to return it. It is impossible this thing is still working". But it was all ok, that tells me these things are built like a tank. On the other hand, the MT-15, it looks cheap, it feels cheap, and is made in China. Secondly, and most importantly, the tone, these amps have a very modern metal sound. The voicing is nothing like the MT-15, nor the evh 5150. The tone is like a punch in the face, but with clarity. I don't know how to explain it, it has a lot of gain but never looses note definition. I strongly, recommend it for modern metal. Go for it!

      @@dinogiolitti2844 It takes pedals very well. I have Reverb, delay, chorus, booster in the EF loop and OD and wah in the front. They all sounds great.

    whats ur opinion about the amp??it sound very fizzy at this video.its better that 5150 u have there???i have the 5150 but i dont like it so iam thinking about that amp

      Indeed, it sounds fizzy on the video, that's because I used a cheap cellphone for video-audio recording and the amp was quite loud. (I have no professional recording equipment yet). Sorry about that! My take is, the Fireball is a solid 9/10 amp. Since I bought it I have not used the 5150. If you own a 5150 you probably know about the hiss, I barely could use it without a noise gate (in the front and in the loop). Well, ENGL fireball can be max out volume/gain, and you will be able to sleep like a baby in the same room. It's dead silence and I love that!. The clean/crunch channel at 9-10 is glassy clean, it takes pedals like a dream. The lead channel is punchy as hell, but to my taste, it lacks a tiny bit of bottom end, that's why I use a booster with EQ in an attempt to enhance those low frequencies. The 5150 is a beast, however, the clean channel is not cristal water, even though is a dedicated channel with its own EQ, it doesn't compare to the ENGL. Don't get me wrong is a good one, but not super clean to my taste. In addition, the 5150 doesn't have a built-in noise gate, therefore, you need 2 noise gate or one with 4CM capabilities. Transportation to rehearsals, we are talking about 11 kg (Fireball 25) vs 15.8 kg (EVH5150). With 25 watts you have more than enough to practice with a full band, I think the 50 watts can be used in a gig scenario where you want to show off power/volume. I hope this, helps you! kind regards

    Is this looped? Or did you play the same 5 sec riff over and over for 2:30?

      Thanks for watching! I played the whole thing in one take, no looper. Actually, the song has another part before ends but to make it shorter for demo I just played those 5 riffs.
