I really loved these two-they’re so evenly matched and complement each other really well, and I do think Beth went back to New York after the end of the series. When I heard this song, I couldn’t get them out of my head. Their relationship is competitive and almost volatile at times, and I really wanted to explore that sardonic and snarky side to them. They're mean in the sense that they hurt each other without intending to, and I think that's an interesting part of their dynamic.

@@ilovemycutieplumpie Lyra and Will reach puberty after the war against God is won and they fall in love. But they can't remain together and have a future because they have to return to their own world, and Will won't have his subtle knife anymore, because it was too dangerous and it created the Spectres. The angels all close the windows between the worlds and Will and Lyra return to their own world. They make a vow of eternal love before parting ways -- each year on Midyear's Day, they will go to their own world's Oxford Garden and sit on the bench they sat together at the beginning of their friendship. This way, they will know they are at the very same place together, albeit in different universes. The worst heartbreaking part is how much they loved each other and realising it was too late to at least have some time together. Lyra was crying and was seriously torn apart by this most tragic end of their relationship. They barely had had their first kiss and started to enjoy each other, when they had to part ways. Also, Lyra lost her ability to read the alethiometer. At first, they both considered staying together by having Lyra stay in Will's world. But the problem is that when one person stays about a decade in a parallel universe from their own, they get very ill and eventually die. The only person who survived this was Will's father John, and that was very close call. His magical powers allowed him to stay alive. But he was very weak and remained frail ever since. Will did not want Lyra to get ill by the time they both get ready to get married, and so, they had to part way really and truly, forever. It was the first time Will himself cried openly. The duo had been through so many harships together, and they had everything to make it work. They were by no doubt soul mates, but soul mates from two parallel universes. This love story is absolutely tragic and heartbreaking. It's a seriously one a kind tragic story of love.
