1) You can compare past results of the accumulative version with the dividend version on a tool like justetf. Normally, acc should edge out a little bit. 2) Funds have annual statements and financial companies are regulated and controlled by financial authorities. They are your guarantee of prosecution and the location of your fund and broker matter in this regard. 3) Check the fund costs and also if they are visible when you compare two funds following the same index. Keeping your costs low also decreases the budget where fraud or waste could happen undetected.

With funds, you do have to trust the checks and balances of all the oversight offered by the fund depositary, regulators, auditors, institutional investors, etc. You can check a few things but reconciling the data fully will not be feasible for private investors. The risk is never zero, but an issue in this area would be catastrophic for any fund manager and seems very unlikely for big reputable providers.

Hey, as a rule I don't comment on specific ETFs because that can be interpreted as investment advice. Take a look at the recent video I did about choosing ETFs - there are a number of factors to compare between ETFs (acc vs dist, Irish vs Luxembourg ETFs, physical vs synthetic ETFs, currencies, etc). At the end of the day, though, one has to be careful to avoid "analysis paralysis". If two ETFs seem very very similar, chances are both of them will perform quite similarly long term. . .

Hi! Irish ETF taxes are frustrating. That said, I have many Irish students who do invest: 1) some invest in ETFs through pension wrappers 2) others realize that it's better to invest and make a profit and pay tax than not invest and not pay tax (the most popular alternative in Ireland - real estate - is a LOT more work, so after you adjust for the effort and energy spent, it can be unattractive for someone who wants passive investments). I do hope the Irish government updates tax rules around ETFs in the future (I know there has been some discussion of this).

Justetf doesn't have a local country version, but in my experience you can still use a different version of the site - like the German one - because with the right broker you can basically buy the same ETFs from Greece as from other EU countries.
