How to make Charcoal for Free PT. 2 |
How to make your own charcoal at home and for free! How to make charcoal for free PT.2 Why not save money and have fun making this charcoal at home for free!? This is the same process no matter the tin size and how much charcoal you are trying to make for grilling. Use a same container as char cloth and charcoal; burn off the gases and impurities and make PURE Carbon Charcoal.
I would advise a bigger 5 gallon barrel inside a 55 gallon barrel or even bigger to improve your production of your charcoal, but this is a simple method to make your own charcoal for grilling!
Try this at home and let me know if this helps and what you think! ;)
As always; spend some time outside... it's good for ya!...

    I have worked with a number of materials shaping stone tools. They all have one thing in common. If they are a good solid piece of material that is workable into tools, you can tap it with a pebble or small stone made of quartzite and it makes a sound like glass or some people say a bell. That way you know you can work it and also it is solid without any fractures inside. Chert and flint are basically silica made up of millions of little fossilized microorganisms that came from ancient sea beds. Sometimes you will find fossils inside them which makes some really interesting and beautiful tools. The one drawback is that sometimes for fossil makes it much harder to work with. You have to know what you’re doing. I have seen some people take a grinding stone and grind the fossil down a little bit and then it’s like the rest of it. I’ve also seen actual artifacts that seem to have had this done. Whatever works! There is a very strange type of green chert-like stone here in northern South Carolina. It has fossils in it sometimes. I have a flake tool I found that was made a very long time ago by someone out of this material. The archaeologist want it and I said how much? LOL. You could not pay me enough money to part with that artifact.

    okay, I've scanned through a few comments but I have a question....I want to make a lot of charcoal to use on my webber grill for steaks and such.... Do you use lighter fluid on the charcoal ? If not, will it take a flame and hold it through out one sitting to cook say three or four steaks?

    • @jeffrichardsonoutdoorschan5324
      @jeffrichardsonoutdoorschan5324 2 года назад

      If you go to my videos on my page, I have another video showing a burn barrel method I use to make a lot more charcoal. You can modify it larger if you like. I don't use lighter fluid, you can though. I usually use old cardboard and get a small fire going first and then throw the charcoal on top and it'll catch for sure

    • @jeffrichardsonoutdoorschan5324
      @jeffrichardsonoutdoorschan5324 2 года назад

      Good question, to be honest this was neither fresh nor seasoned. Somewhere in the middle, maybe 2-3 months between cut down and used. I imagine fresh wood will work but will take longer to expel the moisture, but it can certainly be done. I've done it many times, whether starting a fire or making charcoal. You need enough heat/coals to expel the moisture. I would obviously recommend wood that has already been cut but seasoned is not a necessity by any means. Experiment, try it out, and let me know what you think 🤟

    Hey Jeff, thanks for sharing! question... I am basically doing the same thing as you, just on a larger scale with a 55 gallon drum and smaller drum inside. What I am wondering is, once i see the smaller barrel wood burning and the roman candle so-to-speak coming out of the hole in the middle, do I need to keep adding the junk wood around the 55 gallon barrel, or is that not necessary? Please advise; thanks!

    • @jeffrichardsonoutdoorschan5324
      @jeffrichardsonoutdoorschan5324 2 года назад

      I would say that is based on how hot your burn barrel already is or how hot your existing coals are. I would definitely make sure it's hot enough to burn the remaining off games, but if there are sufficient coals you can probably leave it as is. As long as the "Roman candle" is still burning then your barrel is hot enough. Wait until that goes out and the suffocate the opening
