    We used to use something called clear coat blender but there was no clear coat just on the acrylic lacquer paint. You had to set the pressure to 70 lbs pray and run when you sprayed it because runs were so common. Like water. It did shine. Then last was buffing. I'm going to try your method. I have some spots on the roof of my car where birds liked to use it. I just want to touch up those spots. Your videos are really great!!!! Thank you! Forgot to mention that was years ago like 40.

      I’ve definitely heard about that method with some guys I’ve worked with. One time I was asked to blend the door on a work truck because my boss didn’t want to clear coat the whole door because it had a lot of damage and we wanted to color match the new fender we where putting on the truck and painting. The blend I did actually came out pretty good and the color matched perfectly so sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.

      @@J.Lulo_ I used a Rattle can Duplicolor on my hood and deck panel. Between the first and second coat I used 6K sand paper lightly to smooth out the hot spots. Then I used two coats of Eastwood clear coat. The color matches and after wet sanding with 3000 and 5000 and polishing it still doesn't have the shine. I ran out of options.

      You might have to use regular clear coat and not aerosol. The aerosol clear works pretty good for small jobs but for big panels like a hood and a deck lid you might want to use regular clear coat that gets sprayed with a spray gun if want a good shine.

      The blender can just be sprayed on the original clear. That’s exactly the idea of the blend. You stop the new clear on the sanded surface and then spray the blender on the new clear and the original clear which creates the seamless blend.

    That was interesting and informative, but assumes you have the car and the color is recent production. To make matters worse, many manufacturers recycle color codes, even within a couple of years. I'm changing the color on a car. I know what color I want, but I can't get anybody to mix it. Nobody will use the PPG or DuPont codes. They want me to take a pic of the data plate, except I don't have a $250k 1969 Dodge Charger or Plymouth Barracuda in Q5 Bright Turquoise/Seafoam Turquoise. I actually found a pic of a data plate, says "Q5" right on it, but Chrysler reused the code for different colors. The paint shops can't find it. I don't know what the purpose of PPG code 13534 or DuPont code 4960 is if their systems don't recognize the code. The funny thing is, dealers of paints for plastic models -- who use real PPG or Axalta paint -- have it down pat and mix these old colors all the time, but it is so,d in 2 oz. bottles and I need 3 liters! Anyway, thanks for the great explanation and letting me see what the other side of the counter sees. Cheers.

    • @J.Lulo_
      @J.Lulo_ 11 дней назад

      If it’s a solid color than maybe someone can show you the paint panel chips from the paint system and maybe there is a similar color in the system that might work. If they have the mix in the Axalta system they should be able to make mix as much as you need. Good luck.

    Is there a way to spot repair a panel that has no hard edge near the damaged area? Or you have no choice but to reclear the whole panel edge-to-edge? I've used spray blender and polished after but you can still slightly see where the blend is 🤦‍♂️.

    • @J.Lulo_
      @J.Lulo_ 12 дней назад

      I don’t recommend doing a spot repair on a panel with no edge. It’s better just to clear the whole panel at that point. On bumpers I’ll do a blend anywhere I can find a good spot to make the blend disappear. But on a big flat panel with no edge your better off clearing the whole panel.

      Cool 😎 I love to learn how things were done before. Thanks for the info. I’ve heard a tun of stories of how things were done back when paint use to be acrylic enamel and single stage. It’s interesting but also seemed a little more complicated to deal with.

    • @johnochicago8457
      @johnochicago8457 14 дней назад

      Dent pullers required that you use a screw in the panel and a pick hammer. If you use a pick hammer it's going to go through. Then if the metal was stretched you warmed the high spots with a torch and then a rag with cold water too shrink it. Then grind then bondo, then thick sand able primer several coats and then an air sandere that required 100lbs pressure, then a thin coat of primer which you would knock the top off before painting. I still think the new way is more complicated. You are an artist. I forgot then after painting and top coat blender you used buffing compound.

    I wish I could buy a paint stripper that works as good as whatever they put on. I suspect you've done a fair bit of sanding at this point. 40 grit scratches in the metal are evil. 80 grit and slow is a lot smarter if you want a good finish rather than a cheap paint job.

      80 grit on a 8” hug will cut down that material like a boss. lol 😂

      @@J.Lulo_ My big DA Polisher with 80 grit does big panels areas fast. It's the recesses and small areas that take me all the time.

      Yeah that’s how it usually is. For that you can use your 6” da and it should work fine.

    Can you use the blending spray on the colour coat?

    • @J.Lulo_
      @J.Lulo_ 25 дней назад

      No that spray is not formulated for base coat. I have other videos that show you what blender to use for base coat. Here’s the link to my video on blending base coat RUclips link 👉ruclips.net/video/e0HRcgbAOhQ/видео.htmlsi=BnLLwcD1QPAv-JaP. If it’s ever too white on the base color can you put a few drops of black into the base mix to get it too grey out? I always have this problem.

    • @J.Lulo_
      @J.Lulo_ 28 дней назад

      Yes, sometimes you have to tint a little to dial in the color. A little bit of black and a little bit of yellow can help adjust the white base coat if the base coat color is too white. But make sure to make a panel to check the color as you make your adjustments. Once you’ve dialed in your white base coat apply your pearl coat and clear coat and check your final color to get the most accurate match.
