One of the first things GW did was do away with the "scout team defense". It was full on competition between defense and offense in practice. It was Vilma versus Brees in those chess matches. He believed in turnovers and in punishing the other team. He wanted a physical defense, and that's what he got. They beat the hell out of Kurt Warner and Brett Favre in the playoffs that year. One image that sticks in my mind, Peyton Manning on his back, in the Superbowl, propped up watching Tracy Porter celebrate a pick-six on the way to the end zone. The last time I saw GW was on TV a few days ago. He was the DC of one of the UFL teams. I think they gave up a TD while I was watching before flipping the channel.

How did we get all these great assistant coaches this year? Did we give them better salaries? Is there a cap of what NFL teams can pay coaches? I think we focused this year on acquiring a coveted OC and good teachers instead of players.

I'll take a stab at it. Kick return game could be big this year with the new kickoff rules, and the Saints will need somebody out there with Shaheed. Teams will probably not prefer to kick to Shaeed, so the other guy might get some kick return chances. Not sure who that will be yet, but Jermaine Jackson, 5-7 UDFA return specialist out of Idaho just might be that guy.

I'm excited about the new additions of Chase Young and Willie Gay. Maye is a loss (probably cap casualty), but not a huge deal in grand scheme of things. 2 keys: 1) injuries; 2) older players and the risk we could see big drops in production in them. We already know Chase Young can be elite off the edge. We just need him to get and stay healthy and maybe be a little more consistent. Willie Gay gives you a guy who's good in coverage and who can also be a good QB spy, both of which can make the team better against the run because it allows them to play 3 LB's more often, at least potentially.

The last 5 games record was and is over rated. Derek Carr is so dumb they had to switch offensive schemes. Now they gonna run to hide the fact that Carr is a dummy ...they had to dumb everything down duh

To listen to most Saints fans lately, they regard Rattler as the best QB in the entire NFL for some reason and of course just way superior than Carr. Ridiculous.

The best assessment of Carr that I've heard From the last 4 a games of last year to the present OTAs

Derek Carr was really frustrated last season, because the coaching staff wasn’t holding people accountable or being detailed oriented. I believe you saw Carr having to be the only disciplinary on the offense & he can do that, but he’d rather correct & encourage in a positive way after the coach has ripped the player. So not only was he pissed at the person for messing up, but upset at the coaches because they didn’t make sure the player knew what to do. It’s not a coincidence the new WR Coach is someone Carr’s known for over a decade.
