Poor Matrix franchise. This is no way for a franchise to go out.

I think that the fight feeling off was exactly the point of the scene. Even Smith2.0 clearly states it: "You lost something". Neo admits it immediately: "It's true" The fact that he wins in a way totally different from how he would have won years prior is also telling. The fact that Trinity later shows to have his old powers and the fact that the architect this time is a Psychologist are all clear symbolism. The One is a state of mind, not a man. And it always has been. Already in the second movie the orevious architect clearly says it: the One is nothing special. Every once in a while someone starts acting outside of the rules and the machines always knew that and implemented the possibility in the system. Actually, previously, the one who breaks the order and gives humanity a fair chance to find a compromise with the machines is Smith, not Neo. Neo is so not the thing he is "advertised" to be, that he technically loses the final battle with Smith, who implodes after it for reasons that are never clarified fully. Neo has never been special. His entire life has been telling him that he is just some guy underserving of praise. He just had the right mindset he now lost because he is not the same man after everything he lived through and the years that passed. And the fight shows that. He starts by trying to be his old self even if he really doesn't feel it, and gets roasted by Smith, who is also weaker, also out of shape (literally), but genuinely more into it because Neo has always been his reason to exist. He's repulsive towards everything. Towards his relationship with Smith. Towards the fight. Towards this new order. Towards the repetivity highlighting the futility of it all. As soon as he accepts that he lost something, he starts winning. He does something he could never do before. And I think it is symbolic that this new state of mind manifests in a repulsive way literally shielding him. This is not the previous state of mind. This is not his old self resurging. This is his new self taking his right place. And it is not BETTER in a linear way, or WORSE. It works. Broken Neo can find his stance too. That is the point of this fight. It is not good looking and spectacular by choice. I really think Matrix 4 is, thematically, the best after the first one.

This feels like such a cheap remake

The issues here boil down to: - Camera is too zoomed in, cuts too much, doesn't display the scene and actors in any sort of interesting ways which harms any sort of fight narrative and choreography - Fight itself is very stop and go, the impact of hits is downplayed and suddenly high without a proper sense of anything, parts of the fight move poorly to the next and there's no sense of escalation or flow. This fight sucks regardless of the movie it is in. This is just bad for any movie. It being in a Matrix movie makes it extra painful to watch, but even without that context it is pretty awful. At best you can argue it ties to the metanarrative of being forced to make a sequel, but even then a bad product on purpose is still a bad product. Even Post Modern works still need to have quality to them as irony and meta-commentary alone isn't enough to elevate a work.

Ellen was great as Kitty Pryde and as Vanya in S1 of Umbrella Academy.

In the original Matrix films when the fight scene happened camera usually stood still in a frame while the characters were fighting. Camera ij this novie moves like crazy and the choreography is not as creative as it was before.

To understand why this movie is like this, you have to think of what Smith says to Neo in the office at the beginning of the movie "about an "external" company (will not make any name) that said we are going to make a number 4 of the game with or without you". Is obvious that this movie is clearly a protest from the author.

That shouldn't of worked as Juggernauts powers are from a magical stone ( Crimson Gem of Cyttorak ) and not a mutation as it shows in the 90's Cartoon of X-Men

I don't know if this is what they were going for, but this doesn't feel like a Matrix film. Everything about it is just off, like it was directed by someone who'd only ever read the scripts and never actually watched the films. The cinematography is like they made sure to avoid everything that made the other films great.

I really hate when people are like hey Keanu Reeves is like an old man now, but he's also currently in the John wick films and in those films he feels absolutely powerful and dominating. Act of the matter is what we're seeing. Here is the lack of Bill Pope and Eoo Ping aka the cinematographer and the fight choreographer from the first films. And I'm not even saying to bring them back. But you see movies like shang-chi which Bill Pope actually worked on and the new Star Wars Alocyte tv show and it really shows what the action could have been. I would even argue the new Deadpool and wolverine movie shows what type of cinematography and choreography and especially the brutality they could have actually had in the fights that would have matched or surpassed the originals.

This movie had some potential but they made so many mistakes that the end result is just.... awful. It makes me sad.
