Minecraft redstone tutorials and how to's with an explicit goal to explain the why as well as the how. There will be an edge on redstone but tutorials of all ranges will be included such as farms, houses, mod packs, etc.. The goal of this channel is to teach the mechanics behind the tutorial designs which are often overlooked, allowing for easier modification and optimization. I also encourage everyone to add modifications to all builds, using my (or anyone else's tutorials) as more of a guideline rather than a set-in-stone thing.

How to Get Villager Trading Discounts (Java & Bedrock 1.21 and Down) | Minecraft Survival Tutorial
I made a mistake at 11:45: DO NOT put the obsidian row I placed down starting at 11:45 since that will block the top part from coming down. Sorry about that if that made your door not work properly. I don't want to get rid of the pinned comment so I hope this doesn't get buried
Having issues with the top part - for some reason when I activate the button for the first time (e.g., opening the door), the bottom layer of pistons gets left behind. This results in the upper half of the door only being lifted one block. When I "close" the door again, the top layer of pistons is successfully picked up - I just can't get it to take the door with it
Obligatory for me to double check you're in Java edition since Bedrock will do stuff like this. If so, I would check that your delays on all of the repeaters are correct, since if something is firing too quickly this can happen, and its easy it right click it by accident or something. If that doesn't work, I might need more information to narrow it down
@@ZennsWorld Yeah it's in Java, I've checked the repeaters and tried rebuilding a couple times so I don't think anything's wrong with the repeaters - although from my observations it did seem like something was triggering a little too fast. Also worth mentioning that this is on a server with some plugins, so might affect the latency? Also worth noting that the bottom half of the wall works fine - would it be worth it for me to try and replicate that upside down? To describe the issue in more detail, after I press the button for the first time, the top two rows of pistons retract to their normal place, but the bottom row of pistons ends up floating two blocks below where it started, touching the slime block (I think the slime block gets raised one block in this process). But when I press the button the second time, that bottom row of pistons gets "picked up" again and ends up back in its original place. The slime blocks never move after the first time it's pressed
Assuming the server pluggins dont mess with the tick rate or redstone directly I dont think that would affect it (though I suppose it could). This is interesting since what its doing can sometimes happen if I break it at some point, and I have to rebuild it to fix it (it wont resolve itself); if you have already built it multiple times though then it wouldn't be pre-broken like that, so it is something else. Ill see if I can make mine do the same thing as youre describing. If the server has things such as "light blocks" I have actually see that make pistons behave weird as if something blocks the pistons, so be aware of that as well
Ok, I am not sure if this will be your problem, but my version that I built on the video (but not the demo version in the intro) was already broken in a similar way as you described. It was because the obsidian that I placed at 11:45 just completely blocks that part from coming down entirely, so if that fixes your problem then it was entirely on me. I will probably make a pin comment for that fix as well. The first time I turned it on after removing it the door did something weird and I had to redo it so watch out for that (probably from something I did before that to try to fix it though)
Great video dude! For someone just getting into AE2 this was super helpful!
Glad it was helpful!
The cat at 15:23 is like what the frick did you just do to me?😂
Can you make a device in Minecraft designed make my wife come back?
With enough mods anything is possible
does it work on servers?
It should. Servers can always set different settings, but its unlikely anything affecting the farm would change (except maybe cramming rules for lag purposes)
Do they keep the same trades after being zombified and cured?, looking to do this on my Protection IV villager
They should, ya. I've never had one change. I believe they keep their trades after the first time you trade with them, so maybe trade with them first before zombifying them
@@ZennsWorld Got it, thanks for answering so quick!
would a cauldron with lava work for this instead of the block? Just saying i used it for another one and it worked for a bit
I tried that and it didn't work for me, but its possible I didn't wait long enough and it does work. Worth another try
So what if you put crops in a ln alternated staggered way would that make it grow faster or slower
I'm not sure exactly what you mean, but as long as a crop isn't diagonal to the same kind of crop it will go faster (or it won't get slowed down)
Does it work on 1.12.4?
Yes
@ i ment 1.21.4
does it matter which way the observers are rotated as long as they are looking up? I can't get them to rotate exactly the way they are shown no matter what I try
I dont think so, it should work with them facing up in any rotation. TBH I didnt know it would let you rotate them like that
Hello, Zenn! I am a player from Korea trying to enjoy this mod. Your explanation was very helpful and informative. After watching a video, I got inspired to try the Thermal Expansion mod and started playing on version 1.20.1, mining and smelting ores. However, I ran into an issue where I can’t craft any items from the mod! The crafting recipes don’t appear in the crafting grid or the recipe book next to the inventory. I checked in Creative Mode, and I can confirm that the mod items exist there. Could you help me figure out why this is happening? I used a translator, so I apologize for any awkward phrasing. Thank you for your understanding.
So my version was a much older version (1.12) so the 1.20.1 version will be a bit different, such as the machine configurations and some recipes. I believe there is a mod called "Just Enough Items Integration for Thermal Expansion" or something like that. So if you install that one as well, and Just Enough Items, you will get that item menu on the right, and can press "R" to pull up the recipes for some things. I think the 1.20.1 version of the mod is missing some things though too, such as item ducts and documentation, I would recommend a modpack with Thermal Expansion in it which will be more rounded, and will almost certainly have a way to see all the recipes for things. If you go that route, you can press "R" on the item menu on the right after mousing over an item to pull up its recipe. Sorry I can't be more help in this case.
Thank you for your kind reply. I'll have fun playing with recipe mode and extra mode. Love you@@ZennsWorld
keep it up
Correct me if im wrong, but I would say harvesting right at 31 minutes may be inefficient. You would have to wait 25 minutes after planting to reach the same speed you get at the 40th minute, which is only 9 minutes after your optimal harvest. Basically what I'm trying to say is dont harvest right as you reach max speed, take some time to actually use that speed to grow some more crops first, because you will need to wait 25 minutes to get any amount of good speed after you harvest. Or I could have misunderstood your graph entirely lol.
So what I said right verbally there was confusing, I considered re-recording it. That last graph isn't the growth speed of the crops (if it were you would be completely correct), but rather the average yield (mature harvests) as a function of the time you wait to harvest. On the graph, the far left is everything still growing, and the far right is when you have 99 mature and 1 still growing. I interpreted the middle graph as the fraction of crops that are mature at any given time since planting, and then I divided it by the time (with a unit conversion of ticks = 68 seconds) to get "fraction of mature crops per time." It's possible I messed up some of the statistical interpretations though because statistics is not my strong suit.
First!!
finally someone who explains and doesn't just build. thank you so much for this guide!
You're welcome!
hey, how can i repair my armor?
You should be able to put it in the forge as if you were doing an upgrade, and put the material you used for the main piece (so like the chest frame thing or something) and it should let you repair it that way. Another option is to put moss on it and it will repair slowly over time with XP
@@ZennsWorld oh thank you i do it but with sharpening kit from the material ❤️
I built it just the way the video said and nothing is spawning i have afked for 2 hours and nothing
I replied to your first comment, I need more info than this to help. Do you have the zombie in the cart, and did you use the same blocks that I did for the chambers?
I built it and nothing is spawning
Have your villagers slept yet? Sometimes you have to wait a day
Can u build it on top of a ocean
Should be able to do it anywhere
that texture pack is giving me aids
And from where I can install it
From where i can install the mod because in the tutorial you dont show how to put the mod in minecraft
There are a number of places to do it. I use MultiMC, but Cursedforge is the most popular and easiest way to do it. I used an older version of the mod, so if you install it through Cursedforge be aware that newer versions will be a little bit different (but things like modifiers should be somewhat the same)
Okay thanks tomorrow I will try to install it but what is the name of the mod
Tinkers Construct
when i do this the dispenser hit the baby chickens when throwing the eggs
It does sometimes but not most of the time. I couldn't make it not do that no matter what design I used, I think all of them have this issue. I couldnt figure out what made it not do that consistenly though
Since 2 updates i have a huge problem with the redstone part. It just wont activate again after the first use, so it shoots ~ 6 and then stops. Even the farm i had before stopped workint after the update without any change
Are you on Bedrock edition or Java edition?
@ZennsWorld on Java
Im playing on Java @@ZennsWorld
Hmm, is your comparator in subtract mode? I've had it work itself out even after saturating the hoppers with eggs. I will go take a look at mine to see if I overlooked something
Ok looking at mine, it can break (with the redstone remaining on all the time) if the dispenser gets too many eggs in it. Now the one hopper going into it is slow enough for the dispenser to be able to get them all out, but if you had multiple hoppers going into it or you manually put a bunch of eggs in it, it can break. It is weird because it shouldn't break, and right clicking the comparator twice (taking it out of subtract mode and going back in) fixes it, but why it breaks in the first place is weird. This may or may not be your issue, but just my observation. Try right clicking the comparator a couple of times, emptying out the dispensor / making sure it doesnt fill too fast. If you want it to fill quickly, you can always move the comparator and put a lever in the back of it, and just have it turning off and on all the time, but the dispenser will be annoying
thank you bro. In the bedrock version circuit with two observer works slowly, and I've been trying to come up with another way for a long time. Your first circuit with repeater worked perfectly
Glad to hear it. Ya I rarely use Bedrock edition so my knowledge there is a bit limited. I think Bedrock observers work different than Java (maybe they take an extra redstone tick, idk) so thats probably why its slow
Hey, for farms with lava, I recommend placing the lava with a dispenser and then instantly pick it back up. The chickens are left on fire but don't drop items while the lava is there
I think in Java edition at least, since 1.13 (or somewhere around there) the chickens die instantly to lava (picking it up quick was the first thing I tried too). I know in the past it used to do that though, I think it was a bug. You can use flint and steel to do it if you put out the fire, but that requires flint and steel. I don't know what it does in Bedrock edition
Interesting
Does it matter if the slab for the baby chickens is on the top or bottom?
I think it does cause they can stand in the hopper, so it should be on the bottom. Not sure if the dispenser acts differently though
it's a littel big but it works grate so thx ;D
the one problem i have with enchanting is the xp, i struggle getting alot of xp so therefore i cant really trial and error that easily, so thats the problem. But i did learn some important things from this video, thanks!
Ya you absolutely need some kind of XP farm for this. I typically use a gold farm since I like building with gold and you get a lot of XP from them. Early game I think building a Blaze farm is the fastest way to get one
Nether quartz mining works too
hell yeah this is an older video but it's super cool and really helps!
Haha my first video in fact. Glad it helps!
do you not have to do anything in the nether? like pigmans are just gonna come out of the portal after turning it on?
In Java edition, yes pretty much. In the nether and overworld (and end probably) they have a random chance to spawn inside the portal, dependent on how big it is. So making them bigger and increasing the number will increase the average pigmen spawn rate
@@ZennsWorld how much per hour is it for like 10 portals?
So some quick math says that one portal block (so 1x1x1 block) will have a chance of 3/2000 on hard mode (normal and easy have less chance, so hard mode will go much faster) to spawn one on a random tick, which are about every 43 seconds. 10 23x23 portals will give 5,290 portal blocks, which comes out to be 5,290*3/2000/43 = 0.1845 pigmen per second, or 664.3 per hour. Converting that to gold depends on if you have looting enchantment and stuff, and if cramming happens
@@ZennsWorld does this not work on multiplayer servers? I cant seem to get it to work
It should work the same way, unless the server operator turned off the portal spawning or something (sometimes things like that happen for lag purposes)
What about sorting out string
You can do the same thing you had to do for the poppies with string (you might need to move some stuff around though). Its not in the video though since idk how you would be getting string from it? I wonder if you have spiders getting in there and making it to the bottom somehow. You should be able to engineer out the spiders rather than sifting out string, unless you want it in which case the bug is a feature
Cats spawning
Ahh that makes more sense. Ya a string filter can be good. I thought I made it where cats don't spawn but I may have messed it up, or maybe it depends on what you build it out of. Sorry about that
Built this works but I also have string messing up the iron auto crafter
nice, you have a world download? :)
it would be nice if more youtubers would use litematica
Can’t wait for the Minecraft movie!!!
Thank you!
Great tutorial but didn't work for me in 1.19, the last piston on the upper part does not grab the honey or slime :(
Make sure nothing is blocking the entire contraption, and that the slime and honey are alternating. It should work in Java edition up to the newest version; Bedrock edition will not work. Them getting blocked is the only thing I can think of to debug first
i wish you made more tutorials of thermal mods and maybe also updated since they changed it a little
It was changed before I made the video I think, I just made it with a modpack which uses an old version. I plan on making more of them (ones more specific to certain parts of the mod). I should have done more research with this video to point out differences from the newest version to this version though
@@ZennsWorldi would love for you to make more videos around thermal series as people say its a god mod and i really would love to get into it but have no idea how... I looked at some other tutorials but yours was the best so far although aquateus accumulator was not needed for the dynamo to run??
In my version at least the dynamo needed water so needed that somehow (idk what it is for newer versions). I have plans to do more with thermal expansion, I just need to figure what to do specifically. Is there something specific you wanted to do with the mod? I think I usually use it for ore / metal processing, fluids, and farming; usually concurrently with other mods rather than by itself
@ in the newer versions the dynamo you used in the video is nowhere to be found, but there is one that only burns things and makes energy by itself (its weird they removed what i assume was cooling the machine or maybe just not added it yet) I would love to see what the mod has offer as i am new to it. I only really played ic2, buildcraft and galacticraft and i loved them and when i saw that thermal series has similair looking systems compared to immersive engineering i wanted to try it out. I am not sure what you can really do with this mod and as you mentioned before its mostly used to be combined with different ones. I would love to hear some recommendations from you on what mods to use beside it (preferably ones that are available on newer versions like 1.20.1 that i currently play on. But by itself i would love to see how to farm and maybe some different basic stuff? Like a small foundation i can start building on myself from?
That makes sense. Its definitely more like ic2 than the other mods. For doing things by itself, I think the photogenic insolator is good for farming purposes, and the other machines are good for vanilla processing. Mods I think that are good with it are Applied Energistics 2, Nuclear Craft (not sure about a newer version here though), Tech Reborn (pretty much ic2), Advanced Rocketry, and some other mods for building and stuff. Just enough items (and if you can find them, the integrations with the mods above) is almost a necessity for figuring things out as well I feel. Videos take me a while to get out which is why I'm trying to give something to go off of now; I might do the photogenic insolator next since that one is pretty convoluted and useful by itself for tree / crop farming
Would help if u told us how low the hole goes at the beginning, lol but great vid

You're welcome, I agree the hopper clock is very useful
If I’m riding in the Minecart is it operating as a “loaded cart” or does player weight not factor into it
The player being in it counts as a loaded cart as far as I know. I've made rail systems where I would ride it to the end, but then the empty minecart wouldn't make it back
