Summary Of The 2023 Berkshire Hathaway Annual Meeting - part 2
I have a super puff!!
A must for Canadians !
Thank you 👍👍
Thank you for watching:)
Great episode but something went wrong with your mic.
Thank you !! We moved the mic further thinking it would be better and that wasn’t the case - thanks for the feedback though we really appreciate it :)
I fully support the movement to challenge big companies that prioritize profit over quality. Their products often lack integrity and are made with the cheapest ingredients. In contrast, small independent businesses focus on excellence and prioritize customer satisfaction, valuing quality over mere profit.
Agree !!! The small companies tend to be so much more honest 😊
Growing up as a Canadian ROE focused investor has made me a better investor in US markets. I think we are taught to read fundamentals and attend earnings calls with a more critical mind.
Having a critical mindset with management is crucial :)
What is your view on Berkshire cutting its Ulta stake? I'm not in the US nor I understand much about make-ups and how competitive is the sector (including online stores)
If I have to guess it’s because he sees a recession coming and makeup is one of those things that people spend less on - but that’s a complete guess :). We have video - full length on the makeup industry on our channel if interested 😊
Thanks! His U- turn was so abrupt and confusing. My best guess is that the trade was made by someone else, perhaps Greg Abel, and maybe Warren 'vetoed' the decision after a few weeks. Maybe Warren felt he doesn't know enough about the industry, perhaps similarly to the Paramount Global mishap. Yet, he bought Siri quite aggressively, does Warren know enough about consumer entertainment? Who knows what he knows! I'll watch your full video on cosmetics, thanks 😊
Could you please expand on the lengthy explanation your dad gave about the catalyst of HPS? 27:55
Essential he was just taking about the quality of the product - and how no one in the transformer business had even close to the quality. And at that time he loved dealing with that company :)
@compoundeverything Thanks.
Very interesting because the perspective of a client :)
😊
Very interesting, thank you
Thanks 😊
Hey great vdo. It would help if next time you put in a simple timestamp on each topic so it's easier to follow. Thanks!
That’s good to know ! Thanks for the suggestion :)
keep up the good work. Really enjoy it.
Thanks 😊
Thanks for the advice !!
You’re very welcome :)
Then Terry Smith says to focus on ROIC/ROCE and not earnings. These discussions are important in our development of our yardsticks. It can get maddening when things start conflicting XD
Agree!! We have to figure out which work best for our own style and portfolio :)
Thank you guys!
😊
Not correct but I know what you meant in this video. The absolute value still acts the same with compound interest. Charlie was simply stating that the way money compounds is much more noticeable once you reach $100K. You do not need to adjust this for inflation to understand the valuable lesson of compound interest. Compound interest doesn’t magically start all of sudden it’s always accumulates. It’s just much more noticeable at the $100K figure. Hope this helps
What you say is true - the same could be said for $100 or $1000, compounding still happens. But to say you can ease off the gas at $100000 today is to definitely short change yourself. The principals apply, but we chose to keep a heavy foot on the accelerator until $500000 so the compounding machine can really do some work. Why would you ease up as Munger said so early ??
Haha can't acquire if the competition won't sell. If only that were the same for all industries
@@tadakimasu No kidding !! the big players making every excuse but the truth is they are probably losing market share to some of these independent brands :)
Good video, keep at it you will get views that you deserve
Super informative!! Thanks guys
Ozempic in a can. Sounds like a plan guys! Drink sector is so interesting. Hard to believe any brand has any pricing power with the array of drinks out there. Hec even McDonalds came out with a whole new beverage line.
It’s a business idea 😉 I agree - with all the choice out there how are they not cheaper .
Thank you guys.
@@QualitativeInvestor We love doing it !! Thanks for listening :)
I'm with you guys on the BABA hold worry train and considered selling myself. But, then after learning the opportunity cost- sell when you find something 50% better and the fact that China was in a recession with a chance to get better- I held. And like you guys am surprised at the rally that's happened in the past 2 wks. Amazing to hear on your energy stock opportunity. It is a sector I'm interested in figuring out too, but haven't yet. I think due to marketing of green vs not green energy discussion adds to the volatility which is a great opportunity.
That point on when to sell was such a fantastic find!!! Looks like maybe it’s BABA’s time to shine :)
Good discussions. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for listening 😊
Thank you!
😊
Good to see you guys have updated it, learn a lot from each episode, thank you!😃😃
🙏
Thanks for sharing that destination analysis! Pure gold right there!
Such a great way to think of it !!! We loved that idea too 😊
@@compoundeverything good real life case studies too! For what to avoid. Agreed on Disney and Nike. What a fun discussion to listen to 😊
He's not the Jordan of the UFC, more like the Rodman😊
:)
You 2 look like you're absolutely in love...geeez Can you'all stop staring into each other's eyes?😂 barf! Just kidding - it's a beautiful thing. Never heard of these companies, awesome. Thanks
Thanks for the encouragement!!!
I am going through the textbook no. 2 and its taking forever!
The second book is tougher and a little more dry for sure ! If you passed exam one you’ll do fine exam 2 :)
I am currently reading the book. It is fascinating saga of the 3 generation.
It was one of our favourites for sure !
Francis has some great quotes!
Absolutely!
Power packed information on Mrs B ......💪🏻🧘

So sorry !! www.grahamanddoddsville.net/wordpress/Files/Gurus/Charlie%20Munger/Charlie%20Munger%20_%20Art%20of%20Stock%20Picking.pdf
Thank you as always for the valuable information.
Thanks for listening ✨
Yea, I think this quote was one that confused me too! I think Warren is talking that 'ideally' you want one you can hold forever. But given that the average lifespan of a firm in the S&P is less than 20 years (referencing 100 baggers by Chris Mayer) I think this is a quote we have to take with a grain of salt. Competition is constantly evolving and so we must be flexible and adjust should the story change. I think this quote can trip the investor hugely and cause anchor bias.
Agree :)
Francis has some great quotes
Such a great investor and teacher :)
Is a great strat, especially for net nets which is what Ben Graham and Warren did early on in his career.
Net nets are a great place to start as well :)
@@compoundeverything it is scarier compared to quality moat stocks ngl. I've been testing with small portions of my portfolio. 2/3 success rate so far. Found one in JVA, but didn't pull the trigger (could've been a 3/4). Only found success in US so far. Oh well, hindsight bias XD
@@tadakimasu agree! But it is where a lot of value guys start :)
You guys are great.
52 week low, G nugget.
Thank you so much 😊✨
Balls of steel to use leverage
Absolutely!
Dudes on Wall Street wouldn’t know what female consumers want if the consumers told them straight up 😂
True lol
Good stuff.
Thanks 😊
This isn't how I conduct my own shopping preferences, but we've had some pretty polarizing times in recent years, and some people take sides with their wallets. I'm curious if getting directly invovled in hot button politics hurt or hindered their bottom line.
Politics may have had something to do with sales for sure - not a great idea to upset half the population. That being said Nike has been in bad positions before and found its way . Time will tell if they can turn the ship :)
Tbh I think brick and mortar stores are way underrated these days. And I think they’ll make a huge comeback!! Lmk if you agree!!!
100% agree and hoping to grab more shares ! Nike has lost its way before and found its way back :)
Where can we see your positions?
We don’t have a public place where we post. I guess we could do an episode of our best and worst one day :)
Really enjoyed this, looking forward to watching you break down other investors in more of your videos
Thank you so much !!
