I read reddit as well, and I think one of the main & more valid reasons people don't like the constant growth is the massive crowding that is caused by infrastructure not keeping up with the population. Go to a grocery store and it's extremely crowded, especially stores there are not a lot of like Costco. Also, traffic is insane when there are not enough roads or lanes leading to hot areas where big companies make people move to, because it was never designed to handle this level of population in the first place - adding 20+ minutes each way of traffic every day. Interesting channel & effort into a very specific subject, but glad I stumbled upon it.

I can't seem to bite the bullet and move to the South because of those giant roaches that fly and are everywhere in the summer time. To find one of them in my house would be mortifying.

Raleigh was completely dead when I visited recently. Nothing was in the downtown. And what was there was closed. We did find one restaurant open. And our hotel restaurant was open at the Marriott. It was a weekend also. Not a good place for a weekend trip.

The main way to differentiate the two main parts of Cary are the MacGregor side of town and the Preston side of town. The MacGregor side has easy access to RALEIGH, most of the major medical facilities including the hospital, more native Southerners, the new downtown area, much less property crime, but the houses and shops are maybe not as new and shiny as the Preston side. The Preston side has easy access to RTP & DURHAM (but a large percentage of Preston folks who need to get to Raleigh daily have to cut through the MacGregor side), more Northern transplants, more property crime, generally shinier buildings than the MacGregor side, but smaller lots and less natural trees that have been around for a century or more. Take your pick, but as a native Southerner, the choice is obvious.

What about Wellington Park? You left that one out. And it also seems like any tea nice homes are scooped up within one week of being listed, and you can forget about buying them for asking price which is basically just a teaser price to attract showings and invite bidding wars.

Raleigh is a city that somehow manages to be both pretentious and utterly bland. Population: 483,000 Lobotomized Lemmings who went to Duke but won't shut up about it, and NC State grads who think wearing red makes them interesting. Architecture : Raleigh's buildings are so depressing they make Soviet-era concrete blocks look like Versailles. The downtown skyline is littered with glass boxes and forgettable mid-rise office buildings designed by Kane Realty who clearly hates beauty, joy, and human dignity. At least the PNC building is tall enough, that I can jump off. Cultural Scene: HAHAHA! This is where culture goes to get euthanized. Our idea of culture is a bluegrass festival that draws mouth-breathing yokels from across the state to gawk at banjo-plucking simpletons. How thrilling. Nightlife: It's a oxymoron. I've seen more life at a morgue. Restaurant Scene: Watch in horror as packs of lobotomized "Karens" dressed in LuLu and Patagonia line up like locust for brunch at overpriced and pretentious food halls to take photos of their avocado toast. Fun fact: On New Year's Eve, Raleigh drops an acorn. Yes, you heard that right. The city's grand celebration involves watching a giant nut fall from the sky. Fun Fact 2: Raleigh was voted " Most likely to Induce a Coma" by the World Health Organization, 15 years in a row. In the Bermuda Triangle , creativity isn't just discouraged- it's treated like a communicable disease.

We paid 800k for our house, and our neighbor paid $420k in 2021. Our houses were built around similar time with very similar square footage. Their mortgage rate is 2.2% and ours is 6.4%. 😢😢😢

Agreed on MacGregor! It's been the premier Cary neighborhood for decades and decades IMO. Also IMO, the far west parts of Cary feel more like a suburb of Durham than Raleigh. It's not easy to get to downtown Raleigh from there. Congrats on the baby! 👶
