Saluki and Azawakh canicross and bikejor team from Georgia. Canicross is the sport of cross country running with your dog. The human participant wears a hipbelt which attaches via a two-meter bungee line to a padded dog harness.
2-Dog Bike @ the Alabama Dryland Dawg Derby 2024
Saluki and Azawakh 2-dog bike team taking second place in the 2-dog sport class and 3rd overall for 2-dog bike. Super fun and technical (for a dryland race) trail!

My Trip to the Enchantments

Every moment of this hike was a beauty! There is a reason it makes most hiker's bucket list! It was STUNNING. I started this hike at 6:30am. Finished at 9:30pm. No dogs allowed in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness. And it's a hike I wouldn't bring them on even if I could.
Summer Challenge 10k

The Howling Commandos Summer Challenge 10K with Georgia Urban Mushing in the books! Two birds with one stone, as I recorded it for Medal Chasers Assemble "I Can Run All Day" Challenge. ❤ About every km we completed strength exercises to prepare for our upcoming obstacle races. It was so fun! Even if my muscles were screaming at me. Loki was just there as our mascot, though he did walk about 6 m...

Such an amazing trip in the Colorado mountains. Three days and two nights in the wilderness. With lows in the teens! The weather could not have been more perfect.

Salukis are among the oldest dog breeds. Salukis might go as far back as 7000 b.c. They are bred to have great speed and endurance coupled with strength to hunt gazelle and other animals over deep sand or rocky mountains. They are quiet, dignified, and independent dogs.

Mountain Biking Backcountry Fire Roads with a Saluki
Lovely video but very inappropriate music.
Agreed
Oh, You Knocked it right out of the park; this is exactly the type of vlog that people are searching for; why? b/c the proof is in the pudding and for obvious reasons; we're here; thank you; from the west side of Motown/N/S!!!
Lovely! I've had the pleasure of owning (they actually owned ME) two Salukis. I think I'm getting too old for another. But would dearly love to. Cheers from Australia.
Great video! , I’m not a fan of retractable leashes either. Seen way too many people use the “retract” button as a substitute for a recall command and a few of the cheaper ones actually break apart because the dog pulled hard while it was locked or at maximum length.
Wow fantástico 💯💯💫💫🪃👍🏼
So kyute ng puppies ganda ng kukay I love pets ang saya niya sa tubig
No way my dog would leave a deer😂
So great to see a video on this from an ethical trailer AND sighthound owner! I am hoping to get my Saluki X running with me soon. Thank you!
Finally a running video from an ethical trainer. So sick of the "slap a slip lead on and your problems are fixed"
Good video. I like Maf. Also. For my plantar, I train barefoot on grass or with minimalist shoes w/wide toe box. Cushy cushy shoes are the devil.
U guys are really cool! I'm new to running 🏃🏼 with my dog and your video helps a lot. Thank you so much!!!!
Such a great video! I wish everyone who runs their dogs were just like you! We’ve also encountered off leash and retractable leash disasters too. Ever since I just stick to trails where I know we will be alone. I especially love your advice at the end! Above all if anything is wrong for the dog please stop and keep your dog safe and healthy. Our pack is a border collie basset mutt, a Pyrenees beagle mutt each in nonstop dogwear freemotion harnesses and each has a bungee leash onto me in canix belt. I trained the pyree beagle sled dog commands with treats first and she is a rockstar. Got the basset mix later he’s younger and teams up to her great, but without her wanders off trail constantly! My dogs both have thick double coats I can’t risk heat stroke so they have only ever run in the colder months. Walks and swims are their summer jam. Again thank you and love the sprints footage so cool to see them hike hike hike!
The morning roar from a saluki ❤️ everyday I love it best breed
Tooooo cute 😍
Do u use zero drop shoes? Science says its a good idea:)
Your videos are fantastic love it! Thankyou
Very practical advice, thanks for the video!
Gorgeous dog! Always love their morning roars. Great video.
Amaizing
SOOoooo cute dhr
Thank you for the great information!
Totally coming next year!
YESSSSS! Can't wait!
This seemed like a lot of fun for you and the dogs.
How much was your dog carrying? Are salukis fragile in the same sorts of ways as greyhounds? Thin skin etc.
Maybe 10% of his weight? I think it was closer to 8%. I would not call saluki fragile by any means. They are desert hunting hounds after all. But they do have very little fat making their skin thinner and more tricky to suture.
@@dogsofmischief thank you for answering. I only recently learned they exist and everything I see makes me think they're fantastic.
As an ex runner, was looking to get back to the old jog, but knew a having running dog would help. Had my mind set on a Saluki, but there is so little content on them as far as pet and a running buddy was not sure that they would be a good choice. Therefore thank you for sharing. Its really given me confidence to seek out a Saluki. Excellent content. Good luck on improving your time.
Outstanding job!! Plan on a bit of time added on this fall; we'll be adding extra to the course with the goal of hitting 4+ miles. (In reverse of course!)
I mean...as soon as I got off the course, I was like "let's do that again!". 🤣 So I think we'll be fine. 😉😉
Fantastic ear fur !
Hi, thanks for sharing. Lovely to see a free running saluki. May I ask what the little black box is around the neck? Is it a training tool to encourage return?
It's a mini educator e-collar. He wears it every time we go out, though I rarely use it. Just in case he decides to chase deer into a dangerous situation, I can call him off (which he usually listens without it anyway).
@@dogsofmischief Thanks for the information. I'm hoping to adopt a saluki puppy in September and my biggest challenge is around recall training. I'm going to research this e-collar.
why keep your rate so low?
Because I overtrain and injure myself otherwise.
@@dogsofmischief thanks for sharing. I always overdrawn and get injuries. Need to pick this up
Thank you for sharing!
Subbed and also that Saluki looks just like Clark my Saluki who died :( brings back good memories:)
What make of belt are you using please?
Non-Stop Dogwear's Canicross Belt
Such a great, informative video. Thank you!
Your saluki walks so calmly by your side, it's really impressive. 🤩 And the hike looked so magnificent 😍
Thank you for this lovely video, saluki's are wonderful! I am trying to start up canitrail with my dog, but my knees keep flaring up. The method that you are using sounds promising for me. What is the exact name of it?
Maffetone's Method to 80/20 Running
VeryNice video! I practice canicross with my mastiff in the wilderness of New Mexico. I got into this sport about a year ago..It is so funny because people on the trail have never even heard of canicross so they look at us like we have three heads! Very Interesting information to think about. Thank You!
Happy pup!
What a wonderful life your beautiful dog has! He is so lucky! 👏🐕❤👍 And you live in such a beautiful place!
Oh this is * WONDERFUL! * I have a Saluki who looks very similar to yours. Very similar colour and pattern, except I'm thinking my boy may be a little younger? He's only about a year old (but that's a guess because he is a rescue so we don't know his exact age). How old is yours? My guy has little short fluffy ears still! This looks like so much wonderful freedom for both of you and I bet the 2 of you must enjoy a great bond. I bet he/she is so happy to be taken out on your bike rides with you! ❤🐕👏 How long do you ride for on average? Also how do you get the camera to film in such a steady way instead of bouncing around on his back? I'm very impressed, thankyou for sharing this beautiful video!
He's 3 years old here. <3 We usually do 4-10 miles 3-4 times a week. Depends on temp usually. The bouncing issue was solved thanks to the GoPro Hero 8's amazing stabilization!
What's the brand of those headphones? Love the tips!
Aftershockz
Man I want to do this so badly. And the Loganhaus K9 mud run in West Virginia too.
way fun- here's another way- www.dogpoweredscooter.com - the rider steers the dogs
Nice place for runnig Saluki :) Where is that paradise? :>
Happy pups!
How many miles a day do your Salukis average with you? I am considering one. I've had two rhodesian ridgebacks and they absolutely hated running. They were expert nappers and wonderful pets though. Could a Saluki average 40 to 50 miles a week or would it be too much for them? Thanks!
My friend runs many miles a week with her ridgeback. It really is an individual thing. Over the winter one of mine was bikejoring (pulling me on the bike) 60+ miles a week.
@@dogsofmischief great video! Kuuute dogs, funny cheetah and wolf! Got an 8 months old ridgeback and can't wait (not before one year) to learn him canicross. Good job on the Maffetone method, you look soo smooth at that slow pace ! Keep it up and it won't stay slow for long;
Thank you for this cool video. I'm a longtime long distance runner here in northern Nevada looking to acquire two feathered saluki for running companions and for coursing, maybe agility comps and possibly show. Apparently, you don't have a problem with these two chasing critters? Good running!
Great video! As a road marathoner for the past 5 years, I'm always looking for new tips on motivation, getting stronger and preventing dreaded injuries. This post is very inspirational. As a fellow RUclipsr, I love sharing my experiences and knowledge as well. I just posted an interview with Physiotherapist, Brodie Sharpe all about pain and injury. I know how much goes into these videos! Keep posting - I just subscribed!
Thank you for the great video, I enjoyed the tips. I found the rule of 180 was slow for me as well, but I'm old :) LOL I also found when I could stand to keep my hr 125 or lower that I didn't hurt after a run. Looking forward to more videos
Even though I hate it, I'm finding the 180 formula is probably accurate for me. Especially since I just picked up a chest strap! The wrist watch slow and spiked so much it was hard to work with. One run with the chest strap and what a difference!
Lovely video. Indeed, social-distancing sometimes is great (and necessary).
Wow, this was beautiful! Love to see off leash salukis! 💛💛💛
