Great!
Good
this was INCREDIBLY useful! Exactly what anyone wanting to take their 4x4 onto the sand needs to know. thanks for a great vid!
thanks a lot
This is great info and would be great to see for Cooper’s current offering.
this guy has the most Australian accent I have ever heard
Absolutely great explanation of what are the differences, characteristics and application of a highway, all-terrain, hybrid, and mud-terrain tire. His description of these tires still holds up to today’s tires on the market and it is not only exclusive to his brand of Cooper tires.
such good information.. would regular street tires work even better? would wider work better. I have a small Fwd 4 cylinder van that is low weight. I sometimes get stuck in central florida back roads where the sand is very soft when dry. I'm not trying to offroad, or own a lifted 4x4, i just need to get through this one backstreet safely. I'm going to try this for sure next time. From factory I run 215/55r16 (8.5" wide) on stock 16x6.5 wheels. My tread is street and very flat. Do you think going with 255/50/16 (10" wide) on same rime would help? Okay to mount a 10 inch tire on 6.5 inch rim, i've done it before and never had an issue? what tire tread would you recommend for soft sand that wont kill my MPG? Thanks!
And always air your tires up before driving on black top or bitumen as they call it in Aust.....
We have used a compromise like the Goodyear Duratrac which has a very deep tread, is good at avoiding punctures from nails, screws etc but aired down works fine in sand

Hi Dwaine. I've been thinking of trying to build a UDT of material similar to the one you have here. Did you put this together yourself? If so, where did you source the material? Any other information you could provide would be much appreciated. Cheers!
Mud terrain for a 4wd or get a commodore. Tyre pressure is the ultimate accessory
Hate it when I get a flat tire in the bush.
Sooo the highway tires is best *walks to truck * but I run mud tires with low pressure and it works great but you need highway tires 😂😂😂
He just said you can drop the pressure on mud tires. SMH
This is true. Highway terrain tires are best on the sand. I have first hand experience in various deserts of Saudi Arabia. But if you have to face some rocks an mud then all terrain is better.
Excellent
2014 but the advise should still be good.
your review means nothing unless u can proove it in the worst conditions so if i have to go and pick up my fishing net at the river mouth at full tide sand is soft im not gna get stuck with all terrane you need to show proof
so yr telling me yr picking all terrane even on high tide when the sand is soft mate good luck prooving that people wana go with tyres that can get them out of tough situations
where are you guys located ...
He failed to mention that Diameter makes a huge difference, the bigger the diameter the less resistance.
You can tell this cooper guy has never actually driven on mud tyres in sand . They work extremely well with the right pressures . The theory of them digging down too much is a myth. I run cooper stt pro in 33 and have driven robe to beachport several Times on them , have never been close to getting bogged ...
Ive pulled more mud terrain guys out of the sand than I can remember.
Lol. It’s definitely not a myth.
@@kayakuprising5914 go spend an hour watching videos of people bogged at inskip point . People on mud tyres driving around effortlessly pulling out people on road tyres . Almost every time it’s road tyres going down
Very informative thanks
T-i-r-e... tire... TIRE!
I have yokohama go12 and I have problems with snow traction. I am pretty scarred to drive them, particularly in corners because front tires are losing traction, and continue to go straight ahead... Do I need more siped on st maxx for winter. Or what do you suggest. Studded tires are against the law here
Mcfobos I run the ST maxx in Iowa, I’m pretty confident in the snow with them, they don’t grip as well as a snow tire, but I wouldn’t sipe them
Yes, Great explanation. However he did not once the tire model names. So we continue the guessing game.........what is behind curtain two?

Can someone reply to my comment on this. Ive never personally understood how it is that a flat surface street tyre could possibly be better for sand than an a/t tyre. I really dont... If we compare a fully inflated tyre for example between street and a/t you can bet the street tyre will dig you deeper into a hole with out being able to get out....I know this from personal experience. A more aggresive tread pattern on the other hand will help you grip the ground and climb you out of your bog - this applies even more so if the sand happens to be very soft sand. I understand the bit where they say the smoother street tyre doesnt dig as much into the sand because it lays flat across the surface so it wont sink in ....... but this to me only applies on hard sand where the foot print of the tyre may be less, but even so you would want a larger foot print anyways because that means grip!!! So I really dont agree with the arguement that a smoother street tyre is better for sand/soft sand. Can someone elaborate on this??
BL BL the camel dont have a/t tyres and he's fine.😂
Mud tyres are designed to dig through mud and displace it by throwing mud out via the more aggressive tread pattern you don't want this on sand you want the complete opposite where the tyre doesn't even have the chance to bite in and dig into the sand witch is why the flat tight tread design is more beneficial on sand so you glide over the sand. Same principle behind snow shoes
You're right what's said in this video is BS about the H/T, they're shit in sand. They're only saying this because they don't have a tyre that is designed for sand/very loose dirt. The best one they have there for sand is probably the first A/T maybe the second. General Grabber I think are the only ones making a hybrid tyre designed for sand in mind. All you have to do is look at what the Baja trucks run, they're really like nothing you can buy for your 4x4. closest thing is the General Grabber.
I have heard the same for many years. I have been driving the beaches over 3 decades and years ago did my own test. I had a Jeep that I kept a set of MT's on a second set of wheels. At street pressure the mild tires did better, but really still needed airing down to perform on the sand. The MT's certainly dug in more at street pressure. I then did the same drive with each set aired down to 18PSI. There was no comparison, the MT's were superior. Some things to consider, both of my tire sets were the same brand and same size and both a C rated tire. But the MT's had a heavier and stiffer sidewall. So at higher pressures the mild tire provided less rolling resistance and better floatation. Once proper flotation was achieved the MT's was superior. Of course the reality is they both do fine given proper floatation is achieved. Now this was only one test but over the years I have realized that road tires are lighter with lower load range and will require less airing down. My current truck at 3 tons barely required airing down with the stock P-metric C rated passenger tires. With MT's or AT's of the same size and load range the heavier sidewall rubber requires lower pressure. I won't run E rated tires anymore as I spend too much time on the beach and they are just too stiff. I do tow a boat and trailer but not for any distance.
@@lukeh6367 You're an idiot! Baja trucks have over 500hp and can literally float on the sand. You're not even comparing apples and oranges, you're comparing apples to watermelons!.
we dont have any bush n our roads here
whats with the acsents, arent these still made in the u.s.a. in IOWA
Filmed in Australia !

hello, i have a Subaru Forester, i love doing sand driving. I've been on Perrli p1 tyres and they have been working absoutely great! i've been hearing Cooper tyres are good, any recommodations on what should I get? I really love doing sand dune climbing
I have Pirelli tires on my sedan. They are great on the road. But if you want to go off-road with your SUV, especially on sand, I would recommend the A/T3. They are aggressive enough to tackle light to medium off-road trails but still retains some characteristics of a road tire like your P1's.
What are the two tires to your right my left?
probably the cooper AT3 and the more aggressive one probably is Coopers ST Maxx
From viewers left; Discoverer STT (since replaced by STT Pro), Discoverer S/T (since supplemented by ST Maxx) us.coopertire.com/Tires/Light-Truck.aspx
rogermac is correct. Discoverer STT (since replaced by STT Pro), Discoverer S/T (since supplemented by ST Maxx), followed by Discoverer AT3, and Discoverer H/T
That was very helpful .. didn't expect the softer the tire the better for sands !
hello from Arabia it is , here we get the tires as flat (no aggressive lines and such like mud tires) as possible if you have all terrain tires lower the PSI to increase the surface area , you will feel like your car floating above the surface which is really enjoyable oh one more thing and if you are going for deep sand (hills too) it's good thing to lock the rear diff and for my car (land cruiser 96) i keep the RPM above 2500 until of course there is a safer place to rest because if you lower there's a chance you get stuck even though you can most of the times get out by yourself but no reason to not to be safe cheers
Thank very much for your time my Arabic friend !
So, my HT tires are ideal for the sand and beach?!
it's not "ideal" but if you want to go to places where sand isn't that deep or there are no sand hills it should be good enough but be sure to lower the PSI just in case they sell those small devices that you plug into your tires and measure the psi and lower it to 5-10 (depends on the tire it self so do a little of research) to have massive tire-ground contact and not get stuck in the sand to add more buy a wire (thick one recommended if you have a truck or 4x4) in case you got s tuck you can save yourself but the ideal situation is to go with some friends and at least 2 cars and enjoy a safe trip cheers (:
