Part 4: Hydrostream rebuild, core is finally out
Finally managed to get all of the core out, looking like I’m getting somewhere. Also this is something I do as a past time so can’t say I really know what I’m doing aha.

This video I worked on getting as much of the core out as I could. I would say it was about time to be replaced. Hydrostream/vking/boats/speedboat/rebuild/

    Nice work. It's good to see your doing it right. You are working on what makes a Hydrostream different from other boats. That is the flat keel. rather than a centered V keel, the keel is flat.

  • @314899
    @314899 2 месяца назад

    The core is balsa wood. We put it in the hull to re-enforce the bottom of the hull. Where it was black, it where the hull met the water at 100 MPR. Built these Hydrostream boats, back in the early 80's. When you cut the stringer, make sure it reaches the plywood floor. The floor is the support for the keel.

      Yea no kidding. Just finished getting my core out. Mine wasn't rotten. Instead it was recored very poorly and unfinished so I had to cut out what was put down. Nightmare.

    Love what you're doing. Can I interest you in some protective eyewear and a breathing mask rated for fiberglass particles. Nasty stuff when it gets in your eyes or lungs. Work safe my fellow Hydrostream owner.

    being that the core stretches from the bow to stern, wouldn't you want a continuous piece as to maintain rigidity?

    Good on ya, let’s keep all these old High Performance boats going. I’m in Canada rebuilding a 89 Charger SK. It’s a messy itchy job that I have been chipping away at for just over a year. I’m at the put it back together stage and man it feels good to do it myself. Keep up the good work buddy!

    Welcome to one of the dirtiest jobs out there. Don't be shy, grab an angle grinder, and some cut off discs and go to town, cut the top off the core, and start ripping it all out. The more rotten, the better. It comes out easier. I suggest building some bracing under the boat with some 2x4 or similar to support the hull. It gets super flimsy when it's cut apart. You'll want to get the foam out of the sides as well. Or at least cut into the bottom at the back and make sure it's dry. Get some 40grit flap wheels for a 4.5" and 7" grinder and go to town. Where abouts are you located? There are lots of good videos and info out there.
