I am a long time follower of Jesus Christ who is still learning what it means to live by the indwelling Life of Christ.
I'm in Him as Savior and He's in me as Lord.
Galatians 2:20, & John ch 14-17 give greater insight into our Mutual Indwelling and absolute need to depend on Jesus for everything pertaining to life. I am a simple lay person, husband, father & grandfather.
I have been married to my wife Ann since 1984. We have three grown sons, two daughter-in-laws and 2 granddaughters with 2 more grandchildren on the way. And I must say being a grandparent is one of the greatest blessings of life.
In the flesh I tend to be a control freak & perfectionist with a creative side.
Thus my tendency is to always trying to improve whatever I am doing.
In the flesh I chose the simplicity of tasks over people.
I also have always enjoyed challenging myself physically and now do that primarily through running and basic weight lifting.

Thanks for this video! Have you ever had the tabs/sockets move in after they were out during the installation process? We had them properly out and then we noticed three have gone in.. we’re trying to figure out now how to move them back, trying to uninstall but the tension is hard to get the rods out. If we manage to start over… Any idea how we can prevent from the tabs going in again? (When we started they were out but as we moved onto other rods they started moving in)
How are the HFS in terms of lateral movement? I'm thinking of using them to play tennis besides using them for everyday wear. Great video btw!
Unfortunately, the HFS is no longer available because they have replaced it with the HFS II. The HFS was my favorite Xero shoe and had more of the barefoot feel. The HFS II has a much stiffer sole and not as grippy- in fact I was wearing the HFS II the other day and was crossing a wet slick wooden bridge and they slipped right out from under me and I went wheels up. 😞 As far as for Tennis I would think they would hold up, but I honestly don't regularly play any sports that require the side to side movement (except a very occasional Pickle Ball), so I just don't know how they would hold up over the long run. The Prio is a little heavier and a little more robust over all and may be better for Tennis, but that is just a guess. Sorry, I couldn't be of more help.
Thank you for such a wonderful message. Spoke to me a lot.
Thank you brother, I appreciate it. I hope you are well. I just downloaded you Receiving and walking in Christ video and look forward to listening to it soon. God Bless my brother!
how are you feeling now? it's been 7 months since your health update.
Thanks for asking. Overall pretty good, but after weaning myself off the Flecainide for the last 7 months I did start just start taking it again 4 days ago as my breathing had been feeling more labored again. I still stay super active, but I just haven't felt quite right since having Covid 14 months ago- just really weird. We have also been super busy with life (7 Grand Children now) and Ann had another stress fracture and I'm fighting a hamstring strain from lifting so no new adventures planned at the moment, but we would like to do a major hike for our 40th anniversary next year. Maybe something around the Grand Tetons if we can both get and stay healthy and if we can make some time for it. Best wishes.
Are the hfs and prio s the same width would you say? (Did you get the same size for both?)
Very close. I think the HFS is just a hair narrower. There is just a little more sole and material with the Prios and that may be why they appear a little wider. I wear 10's in both sneakers. I always like the Prios, but after getting the HFS they have become my preferred sneaker. Just a better overall fit for me.
Good morning! I don't know how similar the trampolines are but If you can stop the video at 39 seconds you can see the blue tab location. It is just after the corner where the edge begins to become straight. If that makes sense. We did one rod at the 8 locations on either side of the four round corners. Then we did the next set of 8 rods to the right of the first 8 rods. Then we did the third set of 8 rods to the left of the first 8 rods, and then continued to follow the same routine. Hard to explain with words. Let me know if you have a follow up question. I hope this helps!
G’day mate! I need a help please. I’m trying assemble 098 model, old second hand, no tags no stickers on the mat and I don’t know how to find the first rod position, can you help me please?
I just replied in the comments section, but not sure if you got notified.
So sorry I just saw your question. I believe we did one at each corner. And then we did one more next to each of the first 4 rods in each corner and then we just kept repeating the process doing one more at each corner until we got them all in place.
Did you do the rods in any particular order? I’m trying to just do them one at a time beside each other but it is not working very well.
Just wanted to say thank you for posting this. My husband and I had given up (literally--I called for an pro installation), but I decided to give it ONE more try after watching this video. I ended up finishing all the rods (76 of them!) by myself. Canceled the professional installation. :) Thank you!!
That is absolutely awesome! That was our whole reason for making the video! So glad it helped!
I have a bad case of this. I basically have had to diagnose periformis syndrome for myself. Two doctors came up with other diagnoses. So for a month I was doing all kinds of exercises and stretches to no avail I found you on youtube. I not as limber as you. I can barely get in that position but I have gotten a little better. Is that the only exercise that you do? I have been walking a lot and am not sure if that aggravates it more or not. If you have any other advise, it would be greatly appreciated
I am so sorry, I thought I had replied to your message, but it doesn't look like I did. Hopefully you have resolved your problem. I have come to realize how complicated the body is and how connected everything is and how different root issues can cause similar symptoms in different people and yet need totally different resolutions. Saying all of that here are some links I found that may be of some help- ruclips.net/video/SK-cVqxSiIE/видео.html blog.nasm.org/fitness/piriformis-is-it-really-tight-really Best wishes for good health.
Great video. Would you say the HFS is more breathable than the Prio? I live in Southern California, and so keeping my feet cool is probably my #1 concern when it comes to comfort.
Thank you! I would say they are more breathable, but not super breathable. They have a thin inner lining and the holes are not real big. I live in North Carolina, so the summers get pretty hot and I run hot and the HFS are ok. As a comparison I run in the Altra Escalante Racer's and they are much more breathable. Of course this kind of thing is really subjective, but if your #1 concern is breathability, I'm not sure I would pick the HFS.
@@FennMichaelAllen Thanks! That is very helpful. I'm not familiar with the Altra Escalante Racer; would you say it's overall as good of a shoe as the HFS? Or is the HFS an overall better shoe aside from it being less breathable?
@@MayTheSchwartzBeWithYou The HFS is my go to everyday shoe. Both have the wide toe box and zero drop which I really like, but the HFS has a much more minimal stack height and grounded feeling which I like for all day wear. I also like the HFS better for lifting weights- especially on leg day- I just feel so much more connected to the ground. I use the Altra's for a little more cushion for running- I tried using the Prio's for running before the HFS had come out, but I got a metatarsal stress fracture because I tried to transition too fast to a minimalist running shoe and so I've just played it safe with more cushion just for running. But, now I don't like much cushion for all day wear and I wear some style of Xero shoe when I'm not running.
@@FennMichaelAllen Thanks! That is super helpful.
Would be great if I could even get on the floor in pain I’m in. Not to mention getting back up. No way my leg even bends that way with the pain
Oh no, I am so sorry! So hard to deal with. I definitely had some days early on where I was in a similar situation. Another possible version that may be easier to do. If you can sit with both feet on the ground and then try and lift the foot of your bad leg and cross it over your opposite leg and then you would be in a very similar position. Then follow the same protocol in the video of pressing down on your bad legs knee with you hand and press up into your hand with that knee to resist the hand for a three count. Then release and do it again for 20 reps. Do this throughout the day 3-4 times and see if you get some relief. Another option is standing up hold onto a counter or something similar with the hand on the side opposite of you bad leg. Try and lift the foot of you bad leg up to just above the knee on your opposite leg and then try to squat back a little and attempt the same resist and release technique. If you can't get your foot above the opposite knee, just get it as high as you can and try the exercise as best as you can. I hope this makes some sense. Hard for me to explain just using words. I hope and pray the best for your recovery! God Bless!
Started building mine yesterday, was seriously struggling to get the rods into the housing with three of us so gave up halfway thru. Watched your video this morning and did the rest in about 10 mins on my own using your technique so thanks very much for posting it.
That is great to hear! So glad it helped! Nice trampoline once it is set up. Happy jumping!
I started with the those same water shows from Under Armor for $20. Those were awesome. Then I got those minimalist shows zero drop wide to box from New Balance. But they don't make those anymore, so now I'm using the HFS and I love them. Even lighter than my new balance with the same feeling overall. I love it.
Good to hear I'm not the only crazy one out there. :-) The HFS are still my go to shoe for everyday living. I will run on the Treadmill with them once in awhile, but after the stress fracture I've gone to Altra's for most of my running miles- still zero drop and wide toe box, but a little more cushion.
awesome video Sir. Truly inspirational and informative . I am planning to do it in Jun23. Looking fwd to your part3 vid :)
Thank you for the kind words! That was our goal- trying to provide people with some helpful information. That is so exciting!! You will love the beauty and the challenge! Have a great time! The part 3 video has been out for awhile- ruclips.net/video/cLIy4y7Yjx8/видео.html Hopefully it can provide you some more insights. Probably the biggest things I would change is- 1- NOT use a bladder, but use 4 soft flasks that I can access and fill up easier. 2- I would probably have 1 bottle of electrolyte fluid to 3 bottles of water and take an occasional gel to get additional electrolytes as needed. When it gets hot at the bottom of the canyon, it can be more difficult to digest a lot of carbs. Best wishes for a safe and wonderful adventure!!
Proud to call you my dad and brother in Christ!
I recommend the book Stolen Focus, it might resonate with some your current thinking. Thanks for sharing.
Interesting. I think I've heard of he author, but not the book. I will check it out, but it sounds right on point! Thanks for the recommendation!
I know you said 20 reps. But you didn’t mention how many times a day you should do this exercise?
I would do the exercise at least once in the AM and once in the PM- so at least Twice a day. I don't think it would be a bad idea to do it mid day also and any time it might flair up during the day. I hope it helps!
@@FennMichaelAllen TY SIR
The greatest of these is love.
Going to try ty
Great video !
Thank you! It was a great adventure!
Great series of videos! I just completed R2R (north to south) in 11 hours. Like you, I am 60. My original goal was to do south to north on day 2, but due to cramping that night I decided to shuttle back instead. I will try again next year after spending time working on improvements to nutrition, salt and training. I think I under ate and took too little salt during my hike. My water reservoir had only straight water, and my water bottles had the electrolytes. But I only drank one packets worth. I probably consumed 1000 calories. Going down was not an issue for me since I live in Seattle, and I have access to good training hikes, except for the heat. Thanks for sharing!
Wow you crushed it!! That is awesome! Yeah, there are so many variables to figure out and each of us is different. I think I had too many food calories in combination with my Tailwind calories and not enough straight water. I do know the electrolytes are vital for a hike like R2R and especially if it's hot. Great accomplishment and great to hear you are going back for another try. It is an amazing place and wonderful challenge and that's why it is so intriguing!
Your S rim to N rim hike was extraordinary. I have much respect for what you did physically in 11 hours. I'm post 72 and I've visited the canyon several times but never hiked the trails. We stayed on the rim. A point of interest that I heard you mention your wife from Titusville PA; my father's family had a homestead there and raised family back to the late 1800's and 1900's. The "Hard" family by name originally from Hebron NY. Enjoyed your great adventure. Be safe and enjoy life. 👍❤️
Thanks Robert! It is a beautiful and extraordinary place and the views are amazing even from the rim! Small world when you find a connection to Titusville. Pretty Cool! I finally got a response from my in-laws last night regarding the Hard name and it was not a name they were familiar with. Thanks for your comment, stay safe and keep exploring! God Bless!
@@FennMichaelAllen thanks for the reply. In the Titusville cemetery I have a great grandfather grave at the Canon symbol. Near the back of the cemetery I think. I've been there one time. Gilbert Hard, PA regiment Union Troops in Civil War.
I'll have to check it out if we ever get there again. I've been there one time. My boy's really loved Civil War History and my wife made them Union Uniforms to play dress up in when they were kids.
You really should publish more videos 😊🙏🏻
Thank you!! That is my goal. I was able to listen to your message given at KCRC church on July 10, 2022 and appreciated your thoughts, insights and your spirit. I agree that it is best to share out of what God is speaking into our life and experience. Let us keep abiding that He might bear fruit through us. In Him, Fenn
Very nice. The Christian life is Jesus living his life through us. So true
Yes! It took me a long, long time to learn that the Christian life is not about me striving, but about surrendering to His life in me. Simple, but costly to our flesh.
Very blessed
I loved this, and I don't see a "fail" here. You both did fantastic! An R3 is very ambitious. I just ran my 9th R2R in 8yrs on my 59th birthday, and I've done 4 Rim2Rivers in the last 2 years....there's no way I'd go for an R3!!! I hope you'll go back for another crack at it, go at a better time of the year, and take a lot less gear and stuff/food. It's a lot of fun to do it light and fast. April/May and Mid-Aug thru Oct 15th are great weather windows for doing R2R and R3's. Never in June or July, because it's just too dangerous due to the heat. You would probably both like Naked Running Bands for a faster crossing (and your other runs at home). It's so much nicer to run and hike without a pack on your back. There are other electrolyte products that you might get better results from. We use Liquid I.V. and to that, we add 2 magnesium lysinate pills, broken in half. We also add a vitamin B complex pill to the first 21oz soft flask of the day. We use GU Roctane, both with and without caffeine. We don't use bars or other solid food, because it just sits in the stomach like a brick, doesn't digest, and brings on nausea. Our go-to has been peeled tangerines....they are heaven. Our back up plan is a bottle of 5hr energy drink, per person. We don't always us it, but it's a miracle when you start feeling wrecked. We have videos posted to the channel if you want to see how we run in the canyon.
Thank you Todd! Wow you are crushing it! That is really impressive! You have a ton of experience in the canyon! We would love to run it too, but I would have to do a ton of work on what I consider technical trails and down hill running. I would also have to let go of some of my need to try and be ready for every possible scenario and learn to pack light. You are right the heat really makes everything that much more challenging. I will look into the Naked Running Band and the Liquid IV and other supplements. I just learned a lot about magnesium after getting admitted to the hospital with some weird heart palpitations and finding out that my magnesium was so low they couldn't measure it. I had magnesium in my diet, but I am now taking a magnesium supplement. Yeah, I think you are right on the bars. I think the last time I did the hike I did use a lot more gels. Ann, used a lot more REAL food and fruit, but we didn't try tangerines and I've never tried the 5hr energy- sounds pretty powerful as a back up plan. We will check out your video and maybe we will add that to our bucket list. See you on the trail!
Hey Todd. Finally responding after being out of town, running a marathon, having family visit and fighting recurring bouts of chest tightness, labored breathing and insomnia after having Covid for the 2nd time 10 weeks ago. I have been taking Magnesium and my last two lab results show my levels are back to normal. Because of my roller coaster ride with the recurring bouts of Covid symptoms I have been looking for answers and Vitamin D3 seems to be a possible solution. So thanks for the suggestion. It could be a coincidence, but I increased my D3 from 1,000 to 5,000 IU daily and the next day my symptoms were greatly reduced????? I'm a little nervous about taking it up to the 15,000 IU, but I will try to look into a little more. I have the D3 with K2 in my cart for purchase. Regarding the Vibram Five Fingers- I have yet to try them, but may get a pair. I have come along way as I wear Xero shoes as my daily shoes all day long and I mostly run in Altras for the last 5 years after wearing traditional running shoes with hard plastic custom orthotics for 30 years. Of course I tried to transition to fast and got a 2nd metatarsal stress fracture when I first started moving to wide toe box, minimalist shoes- That is why I started running in the Altra's for a little more cushion when running. I recently bought Toe socks and those have been another step in the right direction. It is amazing how much more my toes are spread out and how much stronger and healthier my feet are- I can only imagine how strong your feet must be. I watched your video of your 5th R2R with your daughter- impressive and you guy's really travel light and don't seem to take in that many calories. And so happy you were able to beat cancer!! Now I know in part why you are so dialed in on nutrition. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and input! We shall see about giving the R2R2R another go. We think we may be done with running Marathons, so maybe we can focus more on trail running and give it another try.
@@FennMichaelAllen So sorry to hear you've had a 2nd go-round with Covid! What a pain in the rearend. I started taking 15,000iu of D3 with K2, right after cancer, so that's been 8yrs now. I've had no ill effects. My immune system is such that I haven't had a cold or flu since 2015. I did finally get Covid, in Jan '22, when that wave of Delta went through. I felt a little rough for 2 days, and woke up on the morning of day 3, feeling 90%. Went back to running my half in the local mountains, 3 days later, right on schedule. So I missed no training. 5,000iu is not enough. Something that works well for me, when I start to feel like I'm coming down with something, or co-workers are starting to get sick; I start taking 50mg of zinc, daily, until I feel like I'm not "getting something." I will also eat a ton of fresh garlic, cooked in scrambled eggs, because that seems to kill the spicyness of the garlic for some reason. So I'll have 6 or 7 cloves at a time, a couple times a day. I did this when I started getting symptoms of Covid, along with taking Dayquil and Nyquil in order to help keep it from dumping into my lungs, and as I said, it was a 2 day affair, and I was back at it. Yes, we go very light in the canyon. It took a few years to dial that in, and I/we still get a little wound up the evening before, and starting thinking, "Maybe we should bring a few bars, or a couple more of this and that." We try hard to put a stop to that, because we know how it goes. We just ran it a month ago, and only took 10 tangerines instead of 13, and that worked out fine. We took no bars. Just the GU Roctanes, with and w/o caffeine, 4 or 5 liquid I.V.'s, and a 5hr energy drink, each. There was no water at 3mi or 1.5mi, so we filled our 21oz Camelbak soft flasks at Indian, and I carried a 17oz with just water in it. That worked out perfect, and we emptied them about 400yds from the top, and hit the last bit hard. Sounds like you're making good progress with the shoes, and the toe socks are a big deal. Neither of us can stand regular ankle socks because of how they squeeze the toe area. It actually hurts to wear them. Keep up the great work, and I hope you get back to the Canyon. I'm running there again on Oct 16th.
You are a beast!! Hope you have another great adventure! I will look into the Vit D3 more and I've ordered some 5 fingers. Although I transitioned to the more minimal shoes I continued to wear socks that limited the spread of my toes, so I certainly didn't get all the benefit. I like the much simplified hydration and nutrition plan!
@@FennMichaelAllen I recommend a very slow transition into being able to run "for real" in the FF's. I think it takes a long time, especially as we get older. Also, I think it's important to remember that [running] shoes are a tool, and we should select the correct tool for the job we're doing, just like other tools we might use. IMO, the FF's are great for learning correct running form, and strengthening all of the long dormant, atrophied tissue in the lower legs and feet, including the arches. They are not a fast shoe, so IMO, they are not great for "real" racing. They're also not great for trail running where the trail is hard packed, like concrete, and strewn with all sort of rock, both imbedded in the trail, and loose, like marbles. Can you run on a trail like that in FF's? Of course, and I try to do it year round. However, there gets to be a point, about August/Sept, where I have to stop wearing them on the local trails. The trails are so dry and hard, and the rock so loose, and scattered everywhere. It can be miserable. Our runs at the GC, whether R2R, or R2River, are literally on the ragged edge of what's fun in FF's. We wear them there for the fun of it, and for bragging rights, but we would be much faster, and have a lot more fun, if we were in something like a Trail Glove, or the New Balance Minimus 10V1's that I wear.
I did the SK to NK July29th, 2022 solo. I had a very similar experience as you. I intended to do a R2R2R and was happy with the R2R. I bonked out at Manzanita and the ascent became grueling. To note, I had blistered my right big toe on the descent of SK. Once I reached the NK Trailhead I then hiked on to the North Lodge and stayed overnite. Next day I shuttled back to the south rim. Although I did not achieve the R2R2R, I still felt it was a great accomplishment. Now, with that experience, I am going back and giving it another try Oct13, 2022. BA to NK, overnite on the North Rim and Oct14 I will hike NK to BA. I will surely attempt it. Watched both your videos. Enjoyed reliving my experience through your videos. I am 61 yrs. old. Keep up the good work.
Yeah, it is not an easy hike and blister can be a huge challenge, because you feel it every step and you had to take a ton of steps with a blister to finish the hike. Well done! You are right, it is a big accomplishment, I just feel bad because Ann was having a perfect day and I messed it up for her. Thankfully, she completely understood. That is awesome you are giving it another go. Let us know how you do. The beauty and challenge are what makes it such an epic hike. On a side note, I was talking to another runner this past weekend and they said they always had trouble with blisters until they switched to toe socks and now they have no issues. I hope you have a successful hike!!
Great video! This is on my bucket list. Hope to do it someday. New follower here. Crow ✌️
Thanks Crow! It is definitely worth it! It looks like you are a lot more experienced with hiking then we are. We will check out your channel. We primarily run, but we may be moving towards more hiking. We have a marathon this coming Sunday and that may be out last. We shall see how it goes. See you on the trails.
Really enjoyed your message. I agree that living in vital relationship with Jesus and his body is the way to be fruitful while abiding. Thanks
Amen and Thank you! Yes, we need Him to live the Christian life and the Body of Christ play's a vital role in encouraging and supporting us in living out that reality.
Even though it takes up more room, I’ve found that having fresh fruit such as grapes, apple, mandarins, etc. are so much easier to eat when it’s hot and you are hiking. The cliff bars and other bars are just too dry and tough to eat in those conditions I’ve found.
That makes sense and that's more the route my wife followed and it worked for her. Yeah, I think it was also too many calories and carbs to take in during such a hot hike and my stomach just couldn't handle it. Thanks for the insight!
Awesome hike on North rim! How many times have you hiked the Grand Canyon? How awesome to make the hike. So beautiful all the sites!❤
I have only done the South Rim to North Rim hike twice. I have never hiked from the North Rim back to the South Rim. I also have done a few different day hikes from the South Rim down into the Canyon. I have only briefly visited the North Rim on my two cross hikes and have not had an opportunity to explore the many trails on the North Rim. It offers a unique beauty and peacefulness that the South Rim doesn't have. But, the whole canyon is such a beautiful and unique place and I enjoy it every time I visit! I hope you can see it in person some day. As you know pictures and videos never do it justice.

You must be in great shape to do these hikes. I wish I could do these hikes again.
We try! We both enjoy working out daily and we're currently training for a Marathon so we did have a solid foundation of running & lifting for me and running & swimming for Ann to add the hike specific training on top of. Fortunately we both enjoy physical challenges and we are trying to enjoy our health while we have it. It sure is an amazing place.
Park looks great and the trail looks very user-friendly, will go there on my next trip to SC, I have hiked Table Rock mountain in SC several times, trail grade at Stone Mountain looks similar to the grade at Grand Canyon. How much elevation did you get in your 20 miles of hiking?
Hey Fran. This Stone Mountain is actually in North Carolina. There was a little discrepancy between my Garmin and Strava data, but it looks like right at 4,400 EG for the 20 mile hike. The only down side to this location is that there are a lot of steps, especially going down the mountain in the clock-wise direction in which we traveled. Which is not ideal training for the more rugged down hill in the Grand Canyon. But, it was only a little more than an hour from our house and there were facilities and water available at the top and bottom of the loop. And the hike up the mountain was great training for going up the north rim.
Thanks for the videos, watched all 3. I am a self-proclaimed Grand Canyon addict, have done 6 R2R crossings since 2017 plus a rim-to-river-to-rim, planning another (maybe even an R2R2R!) for my 50th later this year. This May I took 6 friends, all their first R2R, and the thoughts I gave them in preparation very much align with your planning and after-action. One thought in particular about hydration, what seems to have worked for me. When I get up the morning of the R2R I drink at least a liter of water before starting the hike, then I like to drink 2 more liters in the first 3 hours or so (on the way down). That seems to get me started well. I carry 3 L in the water bladder of my backpack and a 0.5 L Gatorade to start. I drink the Gatorade relatively early, then refill with Liquid IV, in part because I tend to get sick of plain water by the second half. While hiking I try to make sure I drink a couple good gulps every mile, and I eat even a little every hour or so. Not a magic formula by any means, but the regular intake and variation between plain water & water with Liquid IV seems to work for me. And yes, the heat in the Grand Canyon is very different...this coming from a SoCal native...
That's awesome! You've been crushing it! And so cool to share the beauty and experience with others! Good luck on your 50th year plan- sounds like it will be another amazing adventure. Sounds like a great hydration and nutrition plan. I like the idea of drinking a good amount before starting the hike. Your water in the hydration pack and a smaller electrolyte drink is exactly what I'm leaning towards for the next adventure. I could see how you could get tired of just drinking water and I think the combination approach would help with that. I will have to try Liquid IV. I've heard of it, but never tested it. Yeah, the dry heat makes you less aware of how much you are sweating. Thanks for sharing your insights, keep enjoying the adventures and stay safe!
Nice video, videos of various places along N Rim and Grand Canyon Lodge brought back memories, did you stay overnight at the North Rim, had lodging arranged in advance or had luck getting last-minute lodging. If i remember correctly your R2R was originally a R2R2R
Thank you! Ahh.. Good! Yes we stayed at the North Rim, but we did NOT have a reservation. They said we got their last room so we were very fortunate. We thought about booking a room in case we couldn't make it back to the south rim, but we didn't want to have the temptation to stay there prevent us from returning to the south rim. So very thankful we could get a room. And it did allow Ann the opportunity to see the North Rim facilities and additional views that she wouldn't have seen if we had just turned around.
Good planning and prep we watched part 2 first looking for part 3
Awesome! I hope it was helpful in some way. I just need to do some basic editing and hopefully I can get it uploaded this week. We have been out of town visiting family.
Great job on the hike and video, we have watched many R2R videos yours ranks about the best one we have seen for awesome shots and talking along the way. I have hiked 6 R2Rs all in my 70s. both directions from all the trails.SK is the only trail that is all up or all down, real bummer hiking up NK when you switch back up and see the Redwall bridge and realize all the elevation you lose getting to the bridge only to have to gain it all back, from the bridge the switchbacks seem endless before Supai tunnel is finally seen. With my wife we are headed back in October and hope for cooler weather by then. A lot of my crossings have been at night to beat the heat, all have been alone with exception of the first NK BA with my 2 youngest daughters on May 17, 2019. Again I want to say how much we enjoyed your video
Thank you so much! We just want to be a resource to help others who want to try the adventure. Wow!! That is amazing and impressive!! Great motivation for Ann and I to keep at it! And so true about the Redwall Bridge and Supai Tunnel! Never thought about doing an all-nighter but that would help a lot with the heat and the head lamps these days are awesome! Congrats on all of your hikes and so fun to do with your loved ones. My 1st Rim 2 Rim was with my son and a best friend and his son on May 20th, 2019- we just missed you. We had rain, snow and sun but never too hot. In fact we had to hike from the NR Trailhead to the Lodge and it was darn right cold. I hope you have a great hike in October! Thanks for watching and for sharing some of you story.
This book, and Handbook to Happiness by Charles Solomon are two books that have been recommended to me. I just ordered them both and look forward to reading them. Thank you for your review, brother. Hope you're doing well!
I am not familiar with that book or Charles Solomon, so I just looked up a YT video and he was talking about Galatians 2:20 and the Exchanged Life. So I will definitely check him out. I spent too much of my life striving to live the Christian life by my own power instead of surrendering to Him by faith who wants to live His life through me! He is the Christian life! Thanks for leaving the encouraging comment, brother and God Bless! Let me know what you think of the books.
Faith is deeper than positive thinking. Faith is quickened by the Holy Spirit while positive thing is mind base.
Amen! Faith is how we enter into the Reality of who God is and what He says is true, despite our feelings or circumstances. As Tozer said faith is like the eye- it does not see itself, only that which it sets its gaze on!
Thanks for the video, I was trying to decide between the prio and HFS
Great! I hope it helped!
If you didn't catch it- the Stone Mountain area was BEAUTIFUL! :-)
Beautiful trail, wish I has some of these near me. Happy super belated bday to your wife!
Yes, very nice to have so close. Fun way to run while enjoying the outdoors. Thanks- I will let her know.
thanks for sharing.
Hope it was helpful! They finally got a hole in the bottom of them, so I got a new pair!
@@FennMichaelAllen how many miles did you get out of them before the hole came around?
@@tebhernandez I only ran about 200-250 miles in them- mostly short running form work runs and warmups before lifting on the Treadmill. The rest of the wear came from just over 2 years of everyday, all day use of which I am estimating at around 2,000 to 2,500 of additional miles. So total mileage of 2,200 to 2,750 miles. They are a different sole from the Prio's which I think might actually last the promised 5,000 miles. I run between 40-70 miles a week, but I wear Altra's for most of the running, because they have more cushioning. The main benefit of the Xero's is improving my overall foot strength all day long. I tried using the Xero Prio's for running when I was first transitioning to a zero drop & wide toe box shoes , but I ended up with a metatarsal stress fracture in one of my feet, because I transitioned to fast from elevated heel and cushioned running shoes along with custom made hard plastic orthotics that I had used for 30 years. It was no fault of the Xero's- just extremely weak feet that were not ready for all the stress of zero drop and little cushion.
@@FennMichaelAllen Wow thanks for all the info! Im slowly getting into running, so I figured I would just start off "barefoot" I figure these will last me from my walking phase to running. Any advice for a beginning runner?
Hey Tony- sorry about the slow response I just saw your message. This is all new to me and I guess I don't always get notified of new messages???? I may be a little late, but I was in my mid 50's when I tried to transition to minimalist running and I ended up with a Stress Fracture in my second metatarsal which sidelined me for like 6-8 weeks. My mistake was going from a traditional running shoe with hard custom made orthotics that I had used for 30 years to running in water shoes and Xero Prio's. It was too much, too fast. If I was to do it again I would start with a natural foot shaped shoe with more cushion and zero heel to toe drop and take it slow. Even that change can really challenge the Achilles and Calves. The biggest challenge to running is staying injury free. So I would start slow and intermix some running days and some walking or other cardio days. Also, because running only uses muscles in one plane of motion, it is important to do exercises that work the Glute Medius- like side planks and other side to side movement exercises. I tried to just run for years and would get hurt quite often, until I started doing exercises to supplement my running and I have done a lot better. The other problem I've had to overcome is past leg injuries from basketball- many bad ankle sprains and a pulled hamstring muscle that happened playing sandlot football with my kids and their friends which I never had repaired. Our bodies are great at adapting to these injuries in the short term, but then you pick up a weird compensatory running form that ultimately causes injuries. So I would make good running form your first objective. If you can have someone film you from the front, the side and the back you can get an idea of what your running form looks like- many times it is surprisingly bad. I have mirrors in front of and to the side of my treadmill that I use to check my form from time to time. I recommend a forefoot to whole foot landing form which allows your leg to act as a shock absorber instead of heel landing which typically causes many people knee issues. I could go on an on all day, but I hope this helps some. I plan to do more running videos covering some of these issues in the near future. Hope this helps some!

Thank you ! I read this book in the mid 90’s. Liberating truth 👌
Thanks for your encouraging video. Several years ago I, just by random chance, stumbled across this book as I was searching the internet for something completely unrelated. I ordered it and quickly read it. I found Gilham's overview of the way it REALLY works to be fascinating, but it wasn't until I started rereading it a couple of weeks ago that the truths contained in his book really sunk into my mind and heart. I no longer wrestle over whether I'm really saved or not. I now understand how the sin that dwells within me operates. I've been set free thanks to Gilham's clear explanation of who I really am in Christ. Glad I'm not the only one who's discovered this book!
I just started reading a book by him called the victorious life. It’s wonderful! Thanks for sharing!
Great to hear and thanks for the comment! I'm reading his book- Victory in Christ- it looks like Chapter 2 is from his talk- The Life That Wins. Great insights and reminder that all we need, we already possess in Christ. I pray that the Lord continues to open our eyes to this truth and that His love and life would flow in and through us to others in a life changing way. God bless my friend!
