Our Homesteading Adventure: Building a Self-Sufficient Lifestyle... Together 🌱🌻🍁❄️
Philip dreamed of a place that he could build a self sufficient life. A little piece of land where he could hunt, work the land and build a home he could be proud of. His dream began to become reality when he purchased the first 40 acres of Kowalski Mountain in 2016.
I met Philip online in 2018. I grew up on a small, hobby farm. While I loved the outdoor lifestyle, I was stuck in my urban life, far from my roots and the lifestyle I loved.
It’s hard to deny that Philip and I were meant for each other. We make a great team! We seem to be able to accomplish more than the average couple in record time. Since our Kentucky dream is built in short workcations, our ability to get things done is a huge asset.
This is our journey, the victories and the challenges . Thanks for joining us.

I didn't see poor Roxie getting fed.
lol. She gets wet food at night. Cats in the morning
Great HONEST review....no cuts or BS. Thanks!
Yes! I was rooting for it to work!
Hi! Just found your video and hoping you can answer a question about your mixer. I’m thinking thinking that cookie paddles would be enough for making cake batter. It seems that they do an excellent job of creaming butter and sugar and if I need a little more air in my batter, I can just turn up the speed. What do you think?
Well I have both, but personally I’d use what I have.
Hello! Love this idea, and I plan to try it soon! I would be interested in your seed starting soil recipe.
I hope you like it. I just use a standard potting mix for my seed starts. 3 parts soil to one part water.
I have one and used it 😮the first time with no instructions on a widemouth jar, and it worked fine. She shook the powder substance around in the jar and then tried to seal it while shaking.??? Place your jar on the counter, put the lid on, and press the button. it works much better when you’re not moving the jar around.
That’s been a common thought. Though I didn’t find it work much better without movement.
If I'm outside and have a minute to look around, I can do NSEW, but if I'm driving...nope. I'm not Lewis and Clark. Tell me where to turn at the McDonald's on the corner.
Yes, I have to orient myself.
Wow! What fun!❤❤❤
It was!
I highly recommend you looking into wild lettuce. It's a pain reliever. It's poor man's opium, but not addictive.
I think we have it…. Need to check
If I have a recipe saved in Recipe Keeper, and then want to print the recipe out because it's easier to use while cooking, how do I print?
When the recipe is open there is a print option at the bottom of the screen in the middle. Push the printer icon. Hope that helps.
Love it!
Thanks!!😊
Thank you!
Always a pleasure! Appreciate you always watching!
I have 8 pots with one plant each. I have about 10 good size ones on the vine. Having to water twice a day due to the heat. I also live in an RV on our 5 acres. 😊
That’s great! Mine aren’t doing much this year. I saw a flower, but that’s it so far. Nice to meet you
@@KowalskiMountain well I hope they pick up for you. Good to meet you too.
@stacyw3250 me too… I’m completely out of sponges
My delicata squas is growing well except for one plant. It's wilting. Like somethings eating it. 😏
I forget which one mine is…. Fingers crossed
Our beets did not grow well either. I think it has to do with the heat. They like it cool.
I think so too
How do I add my own categories and courses to the app?
When you have a recipe open in edit mode, go to the tab where you can select category or course. Push the add new button at the bottom of the list. Hope that helps.
It’s all looking so beautiful!
Thank you 😊
I hope your doing well and thank you
We are! Tired but well. Appreciate you watching!
I love using mills for this reason. Try some minced fresh ginger sometime, and finish with cinnamon after it’s completed cooking. Nutmeg, star anise, cloves, allspice all work well also. God bless. 😇
Those are some great ideas! Thank you 😊
Any thoughts for a small pastry shop kitchen aid commercial 8qrt or Bosch universal?
My sister has the larger kitchen aid and is pleased with it. She annually makes monster cookies which is a huge batch…. I personally don’t have experience to compare.
I love that you are using materials that normally go to landfills. This is terrific and i will be trying this method. Thank you for sharing!!
Ahhh thanks! I’ll be able to use mine next year too… appreciate you watching
My understanding is that both the bread paddle and the metal drive are not dishwasher safe. There is a company out there I don’t remember what it’s called that makes a dishwasher safe bread paddle for the Bosch. I found that the mixer doesn’t work well with Small batches either, and I actually have bought and am in the midst of restoring a Hobart KitchenAid mixer. For your information, your KitchenAid may need to be taken apart and regreased, quite often when they start to struggle that’s why. It’s not hard to do there is a channel on RUclips called Mr. Mixer and he goes through the steps how to do that.
y would u shake a powdery content......ugh
Didn’t seem concerning
I do keep my vinegar bottles and also those nice thick gallon jugs that Arizona Tea comes in. When I need to use the hose on a hot day, I don't waste the hot water, I fill the jugs with the hot water until the hose water cools down enough for whatever I'm doing. Then, later in the day or in the morning, I use the water in the jugs to water my plants. It's convenient to mix up liquid fertilizer in the jugs, too. Also, another way to use the jugs without a bottom is to use them like a cloche to keep slugs and birds off seedlings. Just take the cap off. It will also protect new transplants from the harsh sun, or warm up the ground when it's cool outside.
We save heavy bottles too. Philip Does the same, collecting the water while it fills up. We use it to water animals, fill the ice machine. Appreciate you watching!
I live in western Kentucky and I love it here.❤
Oh wow…. Hello neighbor… nice to meet you. Appreciate you watching!
You most likely figure out the two different sizes. Lg & small. Taking one size off from the main cap.
I had the caps right. It just doesn’t work well.
OMG! Check out the sealer by vidavac. You can thank me later :)
Thank you for the review. I was wondering how this process ended up working.
My pleasure! I’m sold!
Can't wait to see what the girls think of it.
@tanyabrillhart6608 hopefully they will see it running. Kaitlyn will miss that… but the girls have time
Love luffa veggie, kindly what fertilizer and when to add I just got to babies I am in zone 7 NC.
I use fish fertilizer. The directions say it’s used every two weeks. Honestly I just add it when I think they need it.
Setting goals & write it down in small bits, to get it done- was the Best idea, to me :)
Great tip! I’m trying to block my time more too!
Hi do know if you can still purchase this machine and where do you get it?

@@KowalskiMountain Thanks for the quick reply I have also emailed them to see if they ship to Australia. I will phone Bosch Australia Monday to see if it is available via them. But also search the world to see where I can ship it from
@@KowalskiMountain Also do you know what country it is made in?
I have emailed my contact, I will let you know.
@@jondoe5536my contact got back to me. The Universal Plus Mixer is Engineered in Germany and manufactured in Slovenia
I love it. The time you took to make something so lovely.
Ahhhhh thanks 😊
Beautiful!
Thank you! 😊
Great ideas! Thanks for sharing this!
Thanks! Appreciate you watching! 😊
I guess i never really thought about everything involved in soap making. I thought it would be fun to do but the use of lye has me second guessing doing this. I will need to learn a lot more about this process. Thank you for the vidio
Lye can be intimidating… but as long as you are careful it can be safely worked with. I’m quit anal about lye safety and I’ve had no problems… education is the key… learn as much as you can.
Couple thoughts. 1. I absolutely adore that you left Faith's phone call in the video. 2. Do you have any kind of shade to make soap in the warmer months. It'll begin to get difficult comfort wise for you, and the warmer temps will make your temps more difficult to manage. 3. Your soaps are awesome.
lol…. Glad you liked my happy interruption… consider it foreshadowing for the upcoming video. 😉 I do have some shade…. Filming outside is always a balance of lighting…. So far it’s not horrible. But I do think cold weather saved my soaps a few times 😂
We are planting our first Kentucky garden this year after moving from south central Florida this winter. We are so excited to see what the growing season has in-store for us.
Ohhhh awesome. We made our permanent move in September. We’ve planted a huge garden too! Welcome to KY
I’m currently growing loofah in three different containers, here in zone 6b. Thank you for sharing your video! 🙂☀️
Ohhh wonderful! I just transplanted mine yesterday…. Hopefully they will be fruitful this year, I’m completely out! Enjoy! You might like this video too ruclips.net/video/7ZdIzRvAwE8/видео.htmlsi=jNXC9csK8rejChYN
@@KowalskiMountain thank you so much! I checked mine this evening, all are still small but doing well. 🙂❤️
I've got an even easier hack for brown sugar. I never make it. If a recipe calls for a cup of br. sugar I add a cup of white and a tsp of molassas. It's quicker that way.
No need to mix. … never considered that
Loved your tips! 😊
Thank you…. Loved being a part of the collaboration. Appreciate you hosting!
I'm sure you've realized by now but those chickens are not Bresse. If they are they are hybrids, not purebred by any stretch of the imagination. I am sorry you were led on and - what I would consider scammed. My heart goes out to you friend.
They are Bresse… they were culled by a breeder for their imperfect coloring.
I'm with Roxie... I'ma stay far, far away.
But you love the bees? 😳
@@KowalskiMountain noooooooooohhhhh...I love what the bees make. So keep em happy. Keep em alive. Keep em making the liquid gold cause THAT'S what mama's after. 😁
@tanyabrillhart6608 😂
Seeing how this works with the need is pretty interesting. Thank you for showing us this
Love it! ❤️ thanks for watching
Be nice mister
😊
This just came across my feed and yesterday I saw how Australia and NZ were killing all bees and pollinators! It made my blood boil. I have thousands of bees around my property. They love horehound. Should I put out boxes? If I do, I wouldn’t know what to do with them, but for the love of God and mankind I feel like we need to do all we can to help fight against the evil in the world.
You can put out swarm traps. Well baited the bees will move in. We started beekeeping when Philip found a wild hive in a tree… we jumped in feet first! I have a video about swarms on my channel and a blog post kowalskimountain.com/swarm-season-for-honey-bees-in-florida/
I have this post too kowalskimountain.com/does-lemongrass-attract-bees/

My sister planted chocolate bell peppers for me. Her alzheimer mother in law turned off the grow lights several times. Killed them all.
Oh no! That’s sad…. 😢
& I can’t wait to see those purple odd-ball peppers! ❤
Hopefully I’ll be patient enough to let them mature!
