    Great engagement. Simple fact of the matter is you CAN use an iPhone to shoot. Don't think they ever told anyone user their setup except they show what's possible. I know it's your opinion that "the point is to be minimal", but shot on iPhone simply means an iPhone was the camera. I have rigged up my phone sometimes because it's easier to shoot that way and I didn't have the funds to have a good video camera yet.

      Not really, red and other cameras physically require a lens. The iPhone already has a lens, and slapping a lens on top of it ruins the measurements of the lens.

  • @edward_rivas
    @edward_rivas 20 дней назад

    Bro, you can get nice results too by just adding a filter, a good third party app and knowing the best angles. In some cases you can use negative and positive fill. They rig it up in cinema mode to make it seem as good as a Red or Arri.

    • @Matthew_Chung
      @Matthew_Chung 20 дней назад

      Of course, you can use filters. I'm just saying that an external lens is a bit overkill

  • @VlogCity
    @VlogCity 21 день назад

    You're totally right. It's always cool seeing what they can do with the expensive gear, but when you add on extra glass, perfect lighting, etc, it takes away from the real world implications. Not to mention, an old 2010 Canon Rebel would look just as good with the same attachments and lighting.

    • @Matthew_Chung

  • @Matthew_Chung

    To clarify some of the comments: The iPhone is not what makes it cringy. What makes it is the not so smart financial decision to rig out a phone when you can go for a mirrorless or compact cinema setup. Of course, the iPhone is impressive, no doubt. Just kinda beats the whole point of a "phone camera" Hopefully this clears up.

    It's increasingly common to hear "Oh but they're using this expensive light and all this expensive gear and this expensive rig..." Yes they are because they would have use it anyway regardless of whether or not they used the iPhone. The idea is that when the iPhone is used in a professional setting, it can be used as a professional camera. You don't have to, but it's something you can do. Most of this commentary comes from people who already have a camera, some of us don't have a camera that can shoot 4K HDR 422 10-bit LOG. Point a camera that is less expensive (Body and lens) than the iPhone 16 Pro ($999) and can offer the same (or better) results. New up-and-coming filmmakers, remember; getting the job done supersedes the gear you use.

    You dont know what you are talking about. They don't use anything less for an Arri camera in terms of support gear. Infact , they didnt use any cinema glass or any lens for the apple event that was shot on an iphone if u check the BTS. They could have done that , but they didnt -. The whole point is to showcase how it stacks up to a cinema camera in a high production environment , They use the same "90% of support that actually does the majority of the work " for the Arri cameras as well . They don't use anything + for the iphone that they wouldn't use in any high production shoot. This is a high production shoot showcase , ofc they will use high production equipment , but you are comparing it to a low budget " i grabbed my iphone and went to the market w it to shoot something " . This was never the point. Also for ppl who does not have a second camera body but have spare cine glass, you can easily throw your iphone on a gimbal w a DOF adapter and some cine glass now as your B camera for a concert or interview . W apple log you can color match it very well to a Sony. You glance over these facts , this is not MADE to use in a high production environment , They are just showing that it does work there as well.

      @@Matthew_Chung sure but that is not the point the point is to showcase capability in a high production. Also as iv mentioned if you have glass but need a second body for an interview or a concert it’s literally capable enough to match with your main camera which is a game changer. @@poti732 I don't see whats game changing about it. You could record log on iPhones and other phones using third party software before, and most serious people will use the Blackmagic app instead of the native one anyways. You can go and grab any other device and make the same shots and hone your skills without swallowing the marketing hype and overspending on something that's pretending to be some kind of novelty. If they were serious about filmmaking and not just moving units, they wouldn't have neglected Final Cut for half a decade and gave us more control over the iPhone camera. But for now, the most control you have is with picture profiles, which are still way too basic and aren't even available for video.

    • @Eyeofkamau
      @Eyeofkamau 21 день назад

      @@poti732 no it’s not capable enough to match. The sensor is tiny and the camera has all sorts of noise reduction and artificial sharpening (both at which are extremely heavy) that make the image noticeable less appealing than a dedicated camera’s sensor. And the roll off is not nice at all. It’s something to use in a worse-case-scenario. I would 100% shoot an interview with 1 camera at two different angles to fake a 2-cam set up before I rig up an iphone as a B cam. I think Any “high production” that uses an iphone is doing so more as an experiment.

    The 28 Years Later "shot on iPhone" feels like it should be disqualified. Yes it's shot on iPhone, but really only for the sensor and maybe because it can shoot LOG. A quicker faster setup is to use a reverse umbrella with a diffuser on. Yes, not quite as soft, but much quicker to set up and takes up less space, which sometimes is another limitation. I would always use two lights anyway to get a bit more light on the talent.

    I like the idea of having the monitor on the camera left side for the A.C to have a look at the menu system, as opposed to having a small gap at the back where the screen is flipped out between the15mm rods and the Vmount battery. If you are shoulder mounted on the right side, you can easily use the touch screen settings, but these days DP's will always have an external monitor hooked up to the mirrorless body. I'm not 100% sold on the idea of the 4 Dtap splitters via the V mount. I mean most IDX batteries have 2 Dtaps ports on either side with USB connection too. I think for Steadicam Rigs this will be good to keep the camera top heavy, but for handheld use, I'd rather have it stripped down without the cage and chuck it on a RS4 Pro with wireless focus. Thanks for sharing nonetheless champ.

    I totally agree that having a good "middle zoom" is essential to anybody's kit and should probably be the first lens to consider when gearing up. I guess my "go to" lens would by my Sony 20-70mm f/4. It seems to be permanently attached to my FX30 even though it's a full frame lens. ( Before I got the 20-70mm my "go to" lens was the Sony 18-105mm f/4.) I also have a Sigma 24mm f/1.4 prime, but I've mostly use that lens for stills with my 𝛼7II. Other lenses I bring for video shoots are the Sony 10-20mm f/4 and the Sony 70-200mm f/4 macro. All the Sony lenses are "G" glass. So far, nothing but positive feedback from my clients concerning this lens package.

    People have to be real with themselves and realize it’s the way they perceive the reviews that holds them back. It’s not the reviews, so the reviewers shouldn’t be blamed. I don’t hear any reviews about how you have to buy an fx30 because the gh5 isn’t good enough, or to buy this and buy that. They are just reviewing the gear. I do agree with the sentiment of this though, well said overall

    I feel like a lot of the complaints or "Cons" as you stated, are not really cons, but rather, lack of research on your end. It's clear that this is not a product for you. But that does not make it a bad product. I for one, appreciate a heavier camera. You may not, and if you do not, then do not add more weight by using a cineback.

    • @Matthew_Chung
      @Matthew_Chung Месяц назад

      @MarcoCastro Of course, it may sound like that as things like vanity plate are a small nitpick. However, if you do watch other reviews, they do go over similar complaints. The cineback is more about looks than functionality. We rig the camera to add functionality and more ergonomics to ease the use. Everyone rigs differently to suite their needs So no one has the same rig. For example: we add more weight to elimanate micro jitters and balance the grip to have one hand handheld swings. We add hotshoes to mount a monitor for a biggere screen to add luts or false color also to get to assess focus and to easily derig. We add a zoom f3 to get xlr audio with 32bit float audio backup We add mounts for bigger batteries to power up the whole system from a single swappable giant battery We add top and side handles to improve stability of operating handhels and get those low angles shots and mice attachments The cineback is more for show and offer a clean starting point, but its more like adult lego sets where you can mix in other brands and redesign it as you see fit. Personally i would look at the parts and make a list Then starting making my own design until i get my optimal rig

    My dude, you're filming INSIDE a soft box. All of the walls and ceiling are white. Yes, expose for the space, not the face. But once that is done, just point your light anywhere towards the ceiling from the corner to a few feet in front of your subject. Watch your monitor and adjust the angle until you get the look you want.

    Cage + Rod system are usually made to support LWS standard, measured from center of optical sensor to the rod. Using Cineback means that you have to buy adjustable type of lens and matte box supports or additional adapters. However, the biggest downside is difficulty to swap between the rig and gimbal. Everything is bolted down instead of using quick release.

    • @Matthew_Chung
      @Matthew_Chung Месяц назад

      @ETFootprints Definitely! I only have played with the standard, but I'm aware ARRI has different sizes of rod systems.
