An Eye for an Eye. Literally? | Torah Portion: Mishpatim
Why do the vast majority of Yeshua’s followers see the Torah-God’s Law-in a negative light? Maybe it’s due to themes like we have in our current Torah portion. Themes that seem completely unrelatable to lives that are so far removed from our world and worldview. For instance, this week’s reading begins with the laws of slavery. SLAVERY? Are you joking? Why do we need laws about slavery? Is the Torah promoting slavery??? And what’s up with this whole “eye for an eye” thing? Didn’t Yeshua overturn that in the Sermon on the Mount? Well, if you’ve ever been confused by things like this, then you won’t want to miss this week’s 5 Minute Torah.

Should We Fear God? | Torah Portion: Yitro
Просмотров 4477 месяцев назад
Fear is a powerful motivator. But when it comes to fear of God, there are many different perspectives. We all have our ideas of what the fear of God is and isn’t. But what do the Scriptures, themselves, have to say about it and is there a fear to conquer fear? Let’s take a look at this concept in this week’s 5 Minute Torah. I like your interpretation however I am left with the question of why God chose to use unclean animals to get his point across to Peter. I have heard that it was so that Peter could feel comfortable eating with Gentiles. However I keep thinking there must be something more to it because using the unclean animals in the dream does open up debate as to whether or not Peter had to continue to adhere to the dietary laws regarding meat. I myself agree that the Torah has not been done away with as Yeshua said, “I did not come to abolish the law”, however reasons for The Father using unclean meat to demonstrate his point is still confusing to me.

    The Apostles may have decided not to hold Gentiles to the law, but Yeshua never said such a thing (Matt.5:17-19), and in John 6:65-66 Yeshua tells people they must follow the law of the father and many stop following him because of it (Matt. 22:14 many will be called but few chosen…. Many other verses back up the need to follow the law). Follow the words of Yeshua if you claim to follow Yeshua. Moses took a mixed multitude into the desert, those that were not sons of Jacob still had to follow the law when it was received. The original covenant was with Abraham, who did not encourage gentiles to be good Noahide, but rather to follow the one true G-d. This is not a debate. There is ONE G-d and His law reigns, whether we like it or not. The one true king of the universe WAS, IS, and WILL BE. He is unchanging. If you love G-D, do your best to follow his law and stop looking for shortcuts.

    Your analysis of "The Gates of Hell" passage of the New Testament is correct. The keys of His Church were given directly by Jesus to Peter, the 1st Pope...& Jesus changed Simon's name to Peter, i.e. "the Rock" upon which today's Catholic Church, 2,000 years later, still holds as the Promise Jesus gave to The World to be enacted physically by Peter & The Catholic Church.

    So perhaps we can say it was the "over zealousness" of the Jewish teachers, who made up VOLUMES of ridiculous and arbitrary "oral laws" to impose on believers... like the ones Yeshua castigated them for: the traditions of men / elders. Our Creator is not into micro- management every aspect of our lives like that. As for the tzitzit, God did NOT say it was only for the males... which He was perfectly capable of doing if that is what He intended... like 3 times a year all your MALES appear before Me. He also did not state specifically the design or colors other than the unknown blue cord. And He did not specifically state the way to attach them to our clothing. ALL TRADITIONAL MAN MADE REGULATIONS... which Yeshua spoke against... thereby making Gods laws of none effect.

    Hi Darren, my name is Mel Sorensen and I believe I connected with you years ago when you were in Arkansas. I think it was on Facebook and I rarely get on FB anymore. I followed FFOZ when they were still in CO many years ago. When they started Torah Club and we had the teachings in the loose leaf binders, my wife and I started reading through TC and it changed our lives. Over time we built a group of friends who met in our home for Erev Shabblat and had several years of wonderful fellowship. Our Shabbat group outgrew our home and we found a church in the area where the pastor was willing to allow us to use his building on Friday nights and welcome Shabbat. Our group grew until we had some people begin to object to the teaching of FFOZ as being legalism and against the teachings of the church. I tried to maintain peace within the group for some time. Then a local pastor began attending our Shabbat meetings and unfortunately he furthered the division in the group. We had one group that wanted to study Torah and another group that saw the teachings as being against the church. After some time as I got to be about 70 years old and had some health problems, I was unable to continue leading the group. As a result the group disbanded. I have spent several years now, since 2013, being isolated and have tried to study Torah and observe Shabbat by myself. I failed to mention that the division between the church and the teahings of FFOZ caused my wife to turn against their teachings. I am almost 80 years old now and at the beginning of the new Torah cycle I found out about the Torah Club online groups and joined one for men only. It has become the highlight of my week. The leader of the group said he and his wife are virtual members of Shalom Macon and he also mentioned your teachings. I am going to try to watch the Shabbat service and was pleased to learn about your teachings online. As a side note, my wife recently reconnected with a lady who used to be a part of our Shabbat group and through her found out about another couple who was also a part of our group who is holding a Bible study at the restaurant that they own. They are trying to study Torah but don't have the Torah Club material. I have all but the first volume of TC in the loose leaf binders thqt FFOZ had when they first began TC. Since I now have the complete set of TC in the hardback volumes from supporting FFOZ for years, my wife asked if I would be willing to give the loose leaf volumes to the couple doing the Torah study at the restaurant. Of course I agreed. So tomorrow night, God willing, we are going to attend their study and take some of the TC binders to them. I am hoping this will be the rbeginning of restoring fellowship with some of our people again. Sorry for the lengthy post but I was just excited to see you and your excellent teaching online and I just wanted to touch base with you. Blessings and peace in the name of Messiah Yeshua, Sar Shalom.

    I have a question about the restitution issue with regard to commercial enterprises. I have recently had to seek compensation from a very large national company that cost me over 10k in negligence / dereliction of duty. There have been lies and shoulder slopping on their part. The case is now with a government office. Many others have been in a similar position. Are you saying that I should have not sought redress, rather just let them get away with it and do it time and again? I'm interested to hear your view.

    I believe that I was created in the image of The Creator. Because of that, I believe He has fingernails. My fear, is that I'm only dust attached to any micro dirt under His fingernails. All He Has to do, is lightly blow me away. And I'm gone from His sight forever. This is my fear of My Creator. His Son, Yeshua Ha'Mashiach warned us. That in that day, many will come to Him. Yeshua said many will be told. Depart from Me, I never knew you. This is my second fear. Because apparently I haven't fully fulfilled the written Torah. Not the oral tradition.

    • @EmetHaTorah
      @EmetHaTorah 7 месяцев назад

      The anxiety over Yeshua saying “depart from me for I never knew you” should only be rational if you have rejected intimacy with him and refuse to obey. Otherwise, it’s an irrational fear planted by the yetzer hara. May HaShem allow you to hear His loving voice.

    Yes we should fear God. For too long I was looking for fear that was awe inspiring, which I do not think is wrong, but it is rather one sided. I realized to fear God, and revere Him in a healthy way has helped me keep the narrow path. Maybe human tendency is to only want to see one side, the 'better' side, or the 'nicer' side of God!? It seems to be a hard concept to grasp that God is both, rewarding and punishing, that He is a God all merciful and compassionate and also the God of vengeance Who unleashes His wrath.... Thank you for your teachings and for always inspiring us to inquire more of HaShem and of how our relating to Him is balanced! Shabbat Shalom!

    I hope I would choose to reside in heaven. This world just gets darker and darker. But I know Adonia has a plan and whatever that plan is I'm on the side of my God and King. He created us for such a time as this.

      He does have a plan! We just need to understand what that plan is and walk in it faithfully. Thanks for the feedback! Blessings! Hope you come back to the channel for the weekly posts! Blessings!
