    Is the self-contained approach really that unusual? It always seemed like the intended way to go about it to me. I made a spreadsheet that would let me manually simulate various combinations and just started playing around with it. I eventually learned enough that if I needed to, I could quickly figure out how to convert 4 of any kind of arcosphere to any other kind... right in time to run out of stuff to make with them. I don't remember needing to use nearly so many belts for it. There are definitely more compact designs that might take a couple more arcospheres to set up, but they allow for a lot more direct feeding, which shortens the cycle time significantly.

      That's a good question - I haven't spoken to enough people to be sure, but I do know that all 4 of us went for a balancing system as our first thought. You're the second person who's commented to say that the self contained system was their method of choice though, so you're certainly not alone! The balancing system certainly "feels" easier in my brain, but that doesn't mean everyone will think the same way!

    Two questions about Spaceships. 1. Does the Acrolink 'cheat' work when the ship moves? (not gotten that far to test) 2. How bad is it making actual Factory spaceships and not just cargo ones??

      Yes, if you place an arcolink chest in a spaceship, it'll be associated with the surface the ship is landed on (you can't place them on a moving ship), and if the ship moves to another surface, the chest will remain coded to the first surface. I went over it in the arcolink video here ruclips.net/video/x92KTxEZXB0/видео.html but I haven't made a proper Tutorio of it yet. You mean a spaceship which processes the resources as it flies? That's a lovely idea, but we've not made anything like that ... yet!

      @@LaurencePlays i checked out your channel and i couldnt find any tutorial or anything similar regarding trains and more specifically how train signals and chain train signals work, i personally find it sorta confusing where i can make a train work but i cant explain it to others, i also cannot figure out how to make a double headed train go back and forth in a single rail track, could you consider doing something on this?

My quick answer for chain vs normal signals is that for a junction, you use chains on the way in, and inside the junction. You use normal signals on the exit and between junctions. I don't tend to use double headed trains all that much, but the main thing to remember is that if you have a signal on one side of the track you MUST have one on the other side, or it becomes a single direction track in that area.

    Despite having several hundred hours in factorio, after coming back from a long break, I ALWAYS forget about the BLUE chests. Why won't this log-net fill my reactors? Oh, because i haven't unlocked blue chests.... Several other factory games i play have bots, but they dont separate the whole 'request' option to a whole seperate research tab. Thanks for reminding me lol

      I sometimes forget about them too! I mostly use the red chests to feed the construction bots and use logistics bots to bring stuff to me directly; I don't use them much for general transport.

      You can do circuits, you just need faith in yourself 🙂 There are lots of ways the problem can be solved - as you've seen - so just pick the one that makes the most sense to you!

      @@LaurencePlays for some reason my brain shuts down the minute I do any circuiting. Give me core processing and I’ll give you 10 solid outputs, 3 fluid outputs, 1 input, and I’ll make a nice tillable, beaconed, sorted and optimized blueprint. But a simple decider combinator scares me lol

      @@aridianknight3576 It's probably a familiarity thing - spend some more time messing around with them and you'll get used to it! Perhaps check out my circuits tutorio video - that starts from simple stuff with a cable going from a tank to a pump and works up to more complex examples, hopefully slowly enough to keep you comfortable 🙂

      @@LaurencePlays yeahhh I’ve mastered the simple “turn pump/inserted off when X” but it’s the intermediate stuff. I’m at the point where I’m transitioning from belt based to train based, the ground base is just getting too unwieldy and bot reliant. So I’m gonna check out your LTN video to get a handle on what’s involved.

      @@aridianknight3576 Oooh, good plan - anything that means more trains and fewer bots has to be good 😀 I recommend making sure you're comfortable with circuits before you get to spaceships though - there's so much you can do with them if you can twist your mind into making the circuits for you!

    Has you considered the pyramids placement within your thinking? The pyramids MAY have been placed that way (for science) & not 'ruins' or subsided over time like that portray.

      We have not! We think we have enough information from what we've done so far, however that's something to consider if we realise there's something missing. The locations on the galaxy map would be hard to plot accurately, but it could be interesting to see which pyramids are where.

    17:12 - thanks for the compliments on the setup :) - the reason I didn't remove a drill is that the size of the beacon + the 2 underground belts needed to pass the sulphuric acid through is greater than the size of a drill, I could've moved everything along one to compensate, but it honestly didn't seem worth it!

      You wouldn't need the pipe, the acid could be carried through the adjacent row of drills since they're all touching and in a perfect grid. You'd just be swapping a drill for a beacon. But, it doesn't matter because Melon isn't the bottleneck on production at the moment. 🙂

    The train on the lower right arm of the junction is not blocked off from the rest of the junction properly. The top train is stopped by it.

    I guess later tonight, I'll be finding out if in my Space Exploration game if I can place my rail blueprints from the map and if this mod will send the train out to lay all my new track while I'm off doing other work in my factory. If so that will be a big help, I spend alot of time laying rails when I could be doing more useful work and I hadn't found a way to automate this task unlike other tasks.       🤯That's a really good idea! Yeah, using the map view to place a mass of blueprints and then sending the FARL train out to build them is a fantastic use case; I feel silly for not thinking of it 😀 Not sure if it'll work from the nav sat, but at least if you set it running with yourself in the train, you can carry on working on other things while you ride around. Great idea!

      @@LaurencePlays I just tried it and it doesn't seem to work like that. 😬😔. If you drive it to the blueprint it will ask you to automatically build the blueprint but when it reaches the end it stops and doesn't seek out more rail blueprints to finish. Sad, was a great idea lol.

    As most planets have 'lost' their biter-population, it wouldn't be cheating to disable pollution. I wonder how much (if any) UPS could be recovered, given the size and number of surfaces?

      That's an interesting idea - I gave it a try to see what difference it would make and I maybe gained 1 or 2 UPS. It's not making a lot of difference, I'm afraid!

    regarding expansion wouldn't it be better to set up outposts on other planets for basic resources like Iron/Copper than endlessly expanding on Nauvis? Like finding a 0 threat rich planet ,find 20+M patches and ship back finished ingots/Plates by the rocket loads? Regarding Polished data things i like the chemical gel recipe better as it gives me a use for all the stone i get as a byproduct from core mining and crushing of SE material that otherwise goes to landfill.

      Potentially! I'ts been a good couple of years since I've played just SE, but with our current K2SE run, we're doing all the processing of mundane resources centrally on Nauvis because it's once place to bring everything together, and with spaceships and elevators, logistics is cheap. We do have top-up supplies of stone and iron ore coming from other planets, but again being brought to Nauvis because doing it centrally is easier. In SE, there's a big tradeoff between what's easiest logistically (ie, making transport efficient) and what's easiest to manage (ie, doing everything in one place so you can pass byproducts and ingredients around) and deciding how you want to balance those two is one of the biggest differentiators between different people's factories. Your way certainly isn't wrong, but it also isn't the only option.

      If you're still in early game vanilla, this series might be a little overwhelming! I would probably recommend that you start from the beginning, rather than this close to the end too. It's up to you - if you want to see what heavily modded Factorio looks like, this could be a good introduction to it! In vanilla, at least, you can never eliminate the biters, you can only push them back!

    25:10 - there were at least 3 dead batteries (or whatever non-scrap items) because the other belt was also only running on one side. The ends of the scrap belts feeding the recycling machines had also filled up with various junk. I would estimate around 20-30 items total got into that initial scrap warehouse

      That makes sense - I didn't think it could have jammed from a single item! I wonder what caused it - especially with Regular's uranium; could it all be from bot crashes?

      @@LaurencePlays There was the batteries being taken out of at least one of the lower trains that were being fed into the initial warehouse. Not sure how the uranium got there though, that could have been a bot crash. But I thought they were smarter about that kind of thing...

I just got cryonite done in my latest k2se, about to go do vulc, i like the idea of doing stuff around calidus orbit though and making a sun base. I was gonna be line to spaceships cause ive never really played with them and use them for everything right off the bat like you guys but now im thinking i definitely will cause ill need them to deliver everything to the sun XD

      Are you talking about the solar efficiencies? It's definitely only about 2% difference between different suns - I did the Maths in the video! I think building a Calidus main base is an interesting idea, but it's not one I'd encourage early on because although it'll make power easier, it'll make other things harder, especially early on. Making a bee-line for spaceships is also a nice idea, and one we did, however it took a bit longer to get to them than I expected and using delivery cannons for everything until then ... well, it worked but it felt a bit slow! Not sure I'd recommend it...

      Or perhaps off the level of supply of naquitite in the space port. That does make sense, although in theory the red panels should be cheaper and easier to produce, we've just had a shortage of purple panels to make red panels! I like the idea though; having the system build different things based on what we have a good supply of makes a lot of sense.

      @@tempy2440 Module city is already a low priority (at least for the vitastuff, which is the one we're short of), so I don't think it needs any further cutbacks. It's also more interesting for the panels because there's two valid outputs and you can use one or the other in the same situation, depending on your resource supply.

      The big advantage is that you can load/unload the spaceship really really quickly... The disadvantage is that you can't fit anything like as much "stuff" on your spaceship for any given level of structural integrity. Oh, and if you're not careful, you'll occasionally get trains cut in half by a departing spaceship! Oh, and the other big advantage is that it looks really cool 😀

      The middle belt was added to just take clean scrap from material science because it was making so much of it. In theory, that shouldn't be used by anything else, but yes - you're right, theory is just theory and at some point, someone's going to put a 3-3 balancer on that scrap bus and break everything! Putting in a filter would be relatively easy. I'll add it to the list 🙂

      That would be horrifically expensive, and also a pain to balance... That's pretty much what we have on Taras for the imersite and it ... sort of works, but imersite is lower throughput. No, I don't think belts would be better - the system at full load uses something like 8 purple belts of vulcanite ore, and I don't want to run that much beltage all the way from the mines!
