I love learning SD songs! This iconic song will challenge the best of us, that's for sure! Larry is an inspiration to all guitarists! Keep jamming Bro!

Steely Dan, have no peers.
Thiago espirito santo baixo, daniel santiago na guitarra e o batera eu n consigo ver 😢
Great job!!
What a lovely man and what a fabulous musician. I say musician, as these Dan guitarists didn't reproduce solos in the studio - they wrote them. Donald and Walter knew who to choose !
I saw Larry Carlton play in Vegas a few years ago. It was like I died and went to heaven. It was the most wonderful experience that I've ever going to concerts! It was a small venue. The sax player from Joe Bonamassa's band sat in that night. It was truly like watch Art being perform in front of your eyes. Thanks Larry!!!
Would love to see this live. Next time in Atlanta I will be there
Who is the vocalist?
Glad to know that L C Still has His love for music❤ thanks for this ❤ revisted May 52024
Larry is "Mr. 335," but he's also "Mr. Smooth." His solo in the unedited version of "Hill Street Blues" is one of his best in my book, strangely enough. A lot of that sound is the ES-335. He was one of the masters of this incredible studio instrument. As for this solo, there isn't a single solo on a Steely Dan song that isn't entirely unique, beautifully voiced and actually "sing-able." Parks, Randall, Baxter, Dias, Becker, Carlton, Graydon, and yes, even Mark Knopfler... All are/were outstanding in their field.
Serious sound issues with the bass in and out. Someone needs fired 😂
The overdrive on bass man..
The test tube...and the scale...!
Is there gas in the car!!!
This goes out to my old friend Donna Blount
Creo que ese solo partió aguas en la música jazz - rock o.como de llame la música de Dteely.Dan
Awesome... love it!
Da Best
Wish l had his superb talent...😊😊...go Larry, your the best man👍👍😉😊
Just WOW!
Larry nailed it !
I’ve seen Jimmy Page and Jeff Beck hit sour notes too…The human factor….😂
still, to me, the best guitar solo ever crafted in pop music
Joy,, Joy! 😁👌👍
“Good on ya, mate”❗️
Toto's Steve Lukather: "I realized it was okay to play a bad note when I saw Larry Carlton six years ago. He broke his E string, and everybody was like 'Oh, no." Then he took his clippers and clipped off the B and G strings and played a killer solo!"
Sad to see such a great musician in decline.
Genius!
It blows my damn mind that he just came up with that solo on the spot. The reason it stands astride most other guitar solos ever made is that it's basically a series of extremely distinctive statements, with zero "guitar cliches".
I'd love to hear this cat do this solo live
H7. Great!
Larry Carlton is one of the greatest pure guitarists of all time. Sadly, he was never a highlighted star of a big name band and spent most of his career as an unheralded studio musician.
The emotion of his solos matches the story of the lyrics. Like the perfect match of soundtrack and film. Absolutely beautiful and timeless.
I dream of one day being able to "flub" as good as Larry.
Roger Troutman is smiling from above.
THAT EDITING IS TIME LA PSE
"Is there gas in the car? Yes, there's gas in the car." Thanks for sharing this fun insight into a wonderful musician.
I listen carefully to savor that lyric every time I listen to this song.
Brilliant.
THX!!!!
stil good.......................................................................................................................................
I'd say you nailed it, Larry - great job!!!
WOW!
And remember, here he has aged about 45 years since he first wrote and performed that solo. And it still sounds fresh.
as a Total "Dan" fan I just had to enjoy and smile.......sounds great
14:01 those guys up front with michael league had no idea what they were doing..
Is there gas in the car? Yes there’s gas in the car!
Did I read somewhere or am I mistaken, that on the record they used the first take that he played?
Greatest jazz rock guitar solo of all time ... thanks for posting
He was stiff in the beginning but he definitely loosened up after the solo and sounded more like Larry Carlton. I know that feeling.
