In this video I dive into a forgotten ARG (Alternate Reality Game) that took place in the run up to Fallout 4's release. It's fun (and important) to take a look at the history of game releases, particularly in the run up to Starfield. I also look at the interaction between fans and developers in terms of making games a success. #fallout4 #fallout #falloutlore #alternaterealitygame #videogamehis...

Fallout New Vegas Lore: The Strip (Part 4)
I was okay until you mentioned him getting lost and Vilja guiding him out. *Then* I wept.
That bit affected me on first hearing of the story, and has definitely been a comment I've seen from many people here too <3
It's actually a misconception that voodoo is evil or "dark magic". It's just a religion, same as any other, and it's been unfairly demonized for ages
I've actually had the burned bodies in the tribal village respawn alive after I came back to it several weeks after clearing out the cazadores. They don't have any dialogue, kind of like the generically named "new Vegas citizen" NPCs.
Vilja sounds like Serrana in terms of reactivity to things around them and the player's actions. It is no secret or hottake that many players of Skyrim loved Serrana. I assume Vilja was that for some Oblivion players.
100% I believe so!
i was actually apart of this whole thing back in the day, we had a IRC chat dedicated to figuring it all out. i think im even in the doc as TheHobbit. It was a really fun time for sure. They eventually pulled the plug on it because real life got in the way and they couldn't keep it going. If anyone finds that google doc send it my way, i wanna save it. Edit: watched a little later and saw you covered the doc lol. Wild that i found your channel a couple days ago and now i stubbled across a video about an event i took part in. IIRC from what the creators explained to us after the fact (prob not in the docs anywhere) It was in Montreal, the end goal would be to name a new overseer and use the powers associated to decommission VK-13 or 12 (we never got a clear picture on who was bad or good or neither). I believe they also explained the idea was VK-12 was made as a vault management/overseer assistant, and VK-13 forked off him after the war for unknown reasons, and has been trying to "Leave" as it were. Where as VK-12 was just trying to complete his functions.
Just got off my night shift and this is my go to video 😂 great vid bro keep it up( you also gained a new sub )
Love this! It's what I myself mostly use YT for as well - I stick on some fave lore video and chill, and then can sleep more easily!
Hell yeah
This is pretty incredible.
Why am I crying 😭
Absolutely brilliant piece of work.
Thank you, I appreciate that :)
I don't know why, but you sound just like an asian Conner McGregor!
Amusing! I'm Scottish, so maybe that's what my specific area of Scotland sounds like haha
Chim is probably the most bizarre and pointless lore additions. It basically is: you become aware that you are only an entity within a god's dream and are "fictional". If you accept this fact, you become independent of the dreamer. If you don't, you cease to exist. I may have that backwards. It is a said by some to be a way of explaining console commands. So, if you only played the console versions of these games, this makes no sense. Although, it is never clarified if the "dream" that Elder Scrolls takes place within is like the typical definition of a dream or is something poetic and/or symbolic. I tend to dismiss this because it is like the "reality is a simulation theory" where anything can be used to support or dismiss the validity of the theory since it is purely philosophical/conceptual. I like to think it is like the protagonists of Lovecraft's stories becoming aware of eldritch truths and going insane and sound like rambling nonsense when attempting to explain it to anyone.
Bizarre it most definitely is! But, ya know, I kinda love stuff that's a bit mind bending. I love watching videos about whether we, ourselves, are in a simulation. Only risk there is it can sometimes trigger a mini existential crisis!
Could you imagine if the Institute got a hold of the GEK.... Due to the fact that it got into the hands of Doctor Madison Lee, The lone Wanderer's Father and the Brotherhood of Steel... The capabilities of the GEK were limited. I think if the Institute got ahold of it, things would have been differently... In the events of fallout, 4, they explicitly talk about they don't want anything to do with the Commonwealth or the wasteland, because it's well a wasteland, there's no fixing it there really isn't.... Unless you have a Terra forming device. A device capable of Tera forming entire planets if used correctly... The GEK...😐😐😐 The Institute has the level of technology to use it at its highest capacity. If they had access to it, they probably could have saved the world
I mean it's possible! But they also had some questionable morals too, so ya never know... but yeah it would be interesting to see what they'd have done with one!
@shadesofslay Indeed... Especially with their superiority complex they tend to abandon people... Lets say they do save the world. What comes after? I think a dictatorship or something similar.
Sherigorath would be over the moon to meet someone like the Joker.
I cant imagine a more “hell yeah” video yet tbh
It was strange seeing my words in print, but surreal hearing them in that great Scottish accent. You've done a wonderful job of relaying some of the magic I felt while helping to bring Vilja to life.
Charles! Great to see you here! I'm glad you found some value in my retelling of this amazing story :) I can only imagine what it must have been like to live it! Thank you for stopping by to leave a comment - having someone from the tale itself stop by is a surreal moment for me!
Fallouft 3 and 4 are not canon
🤷🏻♂️
Nah i get it. I blew up like 3 different PCs modding oblivion back in the day.
I never quite got to that stage but things ran quite hot sometimes 😂
@@shadesofslay I couldn't help myself, there was just so much content on the Nexus....surely another lil mod won't hurt? As a treat. Years later my niece and nephew blew up my pc by filling it with Minecraft mods.... I couldn't even be mad.
@ Modding: The Next Generation 😜
With Snuff being one of my all-time favourite Discworld novels, this is incredibly interesting and endearing context.
Adds to it a lot doesn’t it? 🙂
I REALLY REALLY REALLY hope that they make Yes Man the antagonist for season 2 of the Fallout TV show. With Dave Foley back to do the voice, he could be so menacing if handled correctly! It would be a missed opportunity if they excluded him for some other route. I think House would still need to be in there, but just having Yes Man rolling around, unsure if he's obsequious or plotting against the protagonist, could just be so much fun!
I’d love to see Yes Man in it as well! I know some folk aren’t so sure about the show, but I enjoyed it. If anything felt contradictory I just compartmentalised it I suppose.
To me it's strange how the cabot family lives. I mean, they are surrounded by devastation and they live like nothing happened at all, they could have rebuilt the entire commonwealth and their house is the only one that remains sauber
This is a good point. They really didn’t make much effort to help anyone else did they!
I completely forgot Mr House was born in 2020. He'd be watching brainrot videos on his mum's ipad by now.
A lot of the objects flying around on their own or enemies getting stuck in the ground can easily be explained by the goofy collision physics of the game. Those Sunset Sarsaparilla crates are extremely light weight and often fly off the shelves if even slightly tapped by another object.
Lorenzo vs The Master but then Mr. House comes in from the side with a thousand steel chairs and a fuckin WW2 era bomber
i downloaded a single companion mod for Skyrim he came um.... Fully equipped and unsheathed and i was so horrified and scarred i haven't tried a companion mod since.
I found Reaper Man in my dads office and read it and enjoyed it deeply, but never got around to explorong more of Pratchetts work..had no idea he was a fan of Oblivion/TES lol
All the immortals I've met turned out to be quite mortal
Immortal doesn't always mean invulnerable.
Dont want to spread negativity or anything but maybe move away from your mic a bit because me personally i pick up on youtubers that make mouth noises easily and i find it a bit annoying, dont know the best way to word this better sorry about that but nice video man 👍
I'll see what I can do... the type of mic I use, it has to be quite close. I'm also reticent to make too many changes just yet - but I probably will eventually. Anyway I'll see if I can mitigate it! What sorta noises can you hear? I don't really hear anything myself when listening back... just so I know what to look out for!
@ hard to describe really id say “clicking” noises idk its really quit though so wouldn’t worry too much about it I know theres many youtubers who straight up lip smack at full volume and the comments section only talks about it 😂
@ I’ll see why I can do to mitigate it!!
You sir should make a Fallout London video.
I have a playthrough on-going at the moment, I'm trying to get to know the game first but I definitely would love to cover it :)
Seeing centaur for the first time changed something in me.
Honestly with how Moira in Fallout 3 can survive a nuke detonated a hundred feet away from her, I’d be inclined to add her to this list 😂
Greatb point!!
Well, FO4 has poltergeists dropping cars off bridges in the distance... ;-)
Believe me, there's an epic urban legends ep on the way for that...!
The beef is imported from Skyrim haha
Ok sure. But why zero cows in a cows paradise? Even if they did import it, that explains where the beef comes from, not the absence of a species more suited to cyrodiil than Skyrim! Man I love this thing, I’ve never been so invested in a question about cows
@ haha. They migrated out of cyrodiil just before the events of oblivion. Like animals before a quake, they sensed the dark magic brewing and vamoosed. So the empire had to rely on imports during the oblivion crisis.
@@korbensemaganis That's some good material!
I dont know how many of these you read. But ill tell you something, I found this video due to youtubes recommendations (i frequent lore videos and bethesda content) and i enjoyed this one a lot, i went and watched your New vegas video the most recent one about the same topic. and it was also very good. I see the large time gap between your recent videos and the fallout 3 And i have to say your videos have immensely improved, these recent videos are great on their own and a huge jump in quality from the older content i skimmed, i hope you see your own growth and keep making more
I read everything and at this stage I can still manage to respond to everything - that’ll get harder if the channel grows a lot more of course! So I’m glad you sent this now so I did get a chance to see it easily! I appreciate you taking the time to tell me you noticed this - yep, I had a combo of some minor health issues and also thought I might take some time to recalculate what I was doing… and it does seem to have worked, on my return - which I’m immensely pleased about! I do think life is all about growth and change and adapting, so yeah it’s been a bit of a journey so far and will continue to be! To me the audience is the most important thing - that, and my authentic love for this stuff. No hustle, just content - and making sure it gets better and better! Thank you for this, I really appreciate it. ❤️
This is as beautiful as the actual game and it's everlastingly magical music. Absolutely gorgeous stuff 😊 Bloody love the Hogfather 🥰
Really appreciate your comment, thank you 🙂
You forgot Desmond Lockhart 🤙
Love that character but I kinda put him in the ghoul category (and they're so common) - but, his story is interesting, so I probably could have included it!
@shadesofslay understandable, him and his adversary are basically a ghoul and RoboBrain Keep up the vids always enjoy this content 🤙
@@ethandolinski5921 Both super interesting tho of course!
What about Gary clones? I expect them to have a normal lifespan, but they just keep coming.

This made me so happy and so so sad at the same time. I LOVE the discworld and Oblivion and how I didn't know about this is beyond me. Thank you so very much for this. I have Sir Terry's biography but I still haven't been able to read it due to it making me so damn sad we no longer have his light. His characters live in my head and I am overjoyed that he found Oblivion and he enjoyed it so much. I was heartbroken when he started to forget his characters and he decided to leave us. Such a terrible thing to happen to such a geniously creative mind.
You’re very welcome. I think for a lot of people who didn’t know this (and have a love for oblivion) it adds another layer of connection to someone they’ve admired ❤️
Tumbleweed Ranch is actually a Nightkin. If you find him, he'll offer to sell you a tumbleweed for the low price of all your caps. Refusal triggers combat. Accepting makes you broke. Alas, you can't actually take a tumbleweed with you.
I distinctly remember a guard pulling me aside into dialogue and warning me to not encourage Glarthirs paranoia and to leave well alone.
Pratchett sounded like such a beautiful person & soul ❤ I knew he died in 2015, but it's only now that I see how much losing him really affected me. Like a loss of showing my appreciation for the man before I truly understood his worth, my own ignorance pains me to admit
Oblivion is one of my favorite games and this helped take me back to the good old days where the gaming community was much smaller. This era of Bethesda games were so vast, ambitious and buggy, it was always hard to tell what was intended, what wasn't, and what was leftover from development. Would love some more. Thanks.
Much more on the way :)
Another incredible video, king
Thank you <3
I also remember finding evidence that Glarthir was indeed being plotted against although I don't remember what it was. The game however does not allow you to solve the issue without a murder spree which really devaluates the quest, causing me to never even start it.
Even now, Terry Pratchett surprises me with his brilliance. Truly the GOAT.
