Great information! I am a full-time rdg specialist, and I have a busy family. Last year I had 7 in-person students for tutoring (I have no idea how I did that). This school year, I scaled back to 3 students in-person, and I'm looking to add a few online students.

I'm not quite sure I understand the model - do you mean you charge a fixed price per month, regardless of the number of classes actually taken that month? How do you keep track of the exact number of classes students have had to keep an eye on whether they're taking those breaks off? How does this work for students who join part way through the year or want to take whole summers off etc (particularly if they change their mind of this part way through the year, if you had already set your monthly fee based on them only taking nine months of classes but suddenly they plan to continue all summer too)? I recently switched to monthly billing at it's been amazing for me - but that's for a fixed number of sessions per month (using a class credit system). They can flexibly schedule those sessions on my booking calendar and reschedule them within the month if they need to (e.g. due to taking a holiday). If they miss a session or cancel under 24 hours notice then they lose that class credit, as per my policies.

A lot of people have a hard time asking for what they are worth. Dan Kennedy says to say the highest price you can say without laughing. I literally had a friend practicing saying a higher price than they were comfortable with in the mirror the other day. Left him there and told him not to leave until he could do it.

Without giving real numbers for a variety of reasons (including maybe legal ones), I offer a discount with a package. It’s something like this (these are CERTAINLY not real numbers!!!): - I charge $1000 USD per half hour. However, if you buy a package of 10 half-hour lessons, it’s only $750 USD. 10 x $750 = $7500 total - I found a sweet spot by trial and error between “Whoa! Too high! I can’t afford it” and “What a cheap price! Sign me up now!” I kept ratcheting up the price until people started saying No a lot and then I backed off. I hope this helps someone.
