Throwback to 2017 when I went to Miami and went diving with sharks for the first time in Jupiter Florida. Swimming up close with sharks was always a big dream of mine and I got to do it here for the first time. I remember getting back on the boat and thinking that I was ready for the next phase of my life. DISCLAIMER: The footage contains a scene where the camera man (not me) touched the sharks...

South Asian wedding entrance with an NFL twist. This was at our mendhi event in Chicago, so my friends and I decided to rep Baltimore the only way we knew how to. And yes, I know I butchered the Ray Lewis dance, but the hype was just too real (and the surface way too slippery and untested) at the moment for me to do anything but jump around Shout out to all my friends and family who helped me m...

As a new grad student, this was very helpful! Is there a way to upload a protocol PDF and have it "covert" to text so I could edit it?
Is your realisation in any way connected to the video?
Hello , Can international students get into the fully funded MD-PHD program??
Is this all there is 🥲
Nope definitely not. There's a lot more. but this was a pretty consistent routine as someone working in a lab that does cell culture.
My daughter is in HS and would be interested doing CS and then go to med school, my question is you able to take all pre med required courses when you were Perusing CS ? Or you have to spend extra yrs to take those courses to get pre req courses finish TIA
They don't know it yet but I farted. Lol 😊😅😂❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤.
Thank you so much for sharing your journey! After years of indecisiveness, I finally decided to go down the MD-PhD path, and watching your videos brings serenity to my mind and heart as it reinforces that it is what I want to do. Thank you so much! Keep it up! May your life be filled with success!
glad to hear it! Feel free to reach out if you need anything.
Hey where are you doing MD/PhD? Are u international student or local
Can you talk about how you go about your studies in Bioengineering phd part of your MD-PhD? How soon did you do the literature review for your thesis? Did you wait until you have taken the coursework?
I'll get into my PhD in the next video of this series! That will be a bit more organized too since I started this channel during my PhD!
Bro 😂😂. Seems the program has been brutal. Congratulations. Have you heard of Lecturio? Is it a good material for step 1?
Hmmm the video won't let me like the video
Hmmmm, this won't let me like your video
Honestly. This is one of the best breakdowns of personal statement I've seen in some time. Thanks so much!
Very informative video! How did you accumulate potential interview questions?
I am hopeful that my life's journey takes me towards this career path. But i must ask, with repects to my first step; my associates degree. Is Public Health ok to start with or which program would you recommend?
sorry can you clarify? are you asking if it's okay to get an associates degree in public health? regardless, it doesn't really matter what you get your degree in as long as you find it interesting, you succeed at it (e.g. get good grades), and check off the premed requirements. In other words you can major in public health, sociology, film, etc. as long as you take your bio/chem/physicics/math courses as well.
@worldwildmed Apologies, I intended to say, "Is an Associates Degree in Public Health a good first step towards something that can lead to Med School?"
Hey, great channel. First year mdphd Would love to get some advice on time/task management systems Have a good one !
Thanks for posting this video! Helped me with deciding if I should use benchling. For your differentiation experiments, do you have a protocol that you import every time for your replicate experiments that you check off as you go through the actual work?
yes exactly. I have a template and everytiem I set up a new batch, I import it in. It's a 10 day schedule, so I can set the start date. From that point on, I know exactly what I need to do on each day and can check it off accordingly. Does that help?
@@worldwildmed yes, thank you very much!
What about international students, are they eligiple to apply
Can it be for international students

I'm already medical doctor but I'll be starting my PhD in Biomedical Engineering this fall. Any advice for me on how to prepare?😂
that's awesome! What made you decide to start a PhD? Advice wise... I can only compare it to first two years of medical school and what I hear from my peers in clinic but it's definitely very different. A lot more independent thinking and flexibility in terms of workstyle/creative control, which I really enjoy. Some of the earlier courses for us had plenty of differential equations so be sure to review that if it's been a while!
@@worldwildmed I realized that I needed engineering skills to combine with my biomedical skills to find solutions to intractable health challenges. I will likely focus on Tissue/immunoengineering or immunomodulation.
Worldwildmed-howdy?. bravo,that's professional recording! catch ya later~ 👌
i really appreciate your videos!!! please post more :)
How many times do you passage the cells in a week?
I do this about once or twice a week. It just depends how many experiments I am planning. I work with Induced pluripotent stem cells and they are usually ready to passage about every 4 to 5 days

Salam bro! Nice vid
Love the content man, keep it up!
Interesting video. Just curious, since you are in Baltimore do you know any NIH profs (not personally, their research) working on this area of research/any of the Big Alzheimer's labs? Applying for irta and it is very hard to narrow down which labs to contact.
when you say area of research do you mean blood-brain barrier specifically?
bbb and/or neurological diseases@@worldwildmed
Salam brother, good to see you back, while am really not well versed when it comes to basic sciences research, its good to see you on the grind! glad to see you back uploading
Walaikumasalam. Thank you!

I realize that I did not emphasize that the money you get from a fellowship can obviously help pay for research materials that will help you complete the research that you need to do. I was trying to emphasize that it doesn't really increase your own stipend or personal benefits, but I feel like I undersold the benefits that it provides to your own research on the lab . Just wanted to clarify that in case it wasn't clear.
Thank you!
how did you study for your MCAT along with doing a cs degree. And also isn't having a high gpa challenging as a cs student and also leaves with you less time to do extracuriculars. I also want to get my undergrad in cs and hopefully get into med school but if not I can still do my masters in cs and get a good job.
Hey great questions and I think you're right about the GPA issue. I did a BA at the University of Rochester instead of a BS which allowed me to be more flexible with my course selection and I was able to avoid some of the big GPA killers.. You can still do ECs it just depends on your specific situations.
I took the time during my winter break of my senior year to study for the MCAT
I’ve seen your videos throughout the years and applaud you. Keep up all that you do. I have lived in the DMV for the past 6 years and have been wrestling with wether I should drop my stable career in cs/systems engineering as well as comfortable lifestyle to pursue an md/phd for years now. It eats at me from time to time and videos like yours don’t help (in a good way). Specifically biomedical engineering. I’ve had this burning passion since childhood to join biomedical research to assist the disabled community. I always thought this path was the dream and ideal path. Not sure if I’ll regret it or avoiding a headache. Keep it up man. Very happy and proud for you
Were there any subjects in pre med you had to take like biochemistry during your computer science days
yeah i took them all... i kinda had to since i combined bio and computer science
At what age did you start your MD/PhD journey? I am currently 25, and I would love to do an MD/PhD in the future, but I have some obligations to fulfill and the soonest I can start unfortunately is at 31 years old. Do you have any advice on applying as an older MD/PhD candidate? Also, nice squat form; Clarence Kennedy would be proud!
I started at age 24 and am now 30 with 3 years left. I know people who started much later in late 20s or in their 30s. as far as advice, i think from what ive seen, older candidates tend to have diverse and interesting background and it's best to showcase those elements of yourself. in other words, it's not a flaw and don't think of it as time away from school and things that would make you a good candidate but rather recognize it as time spent maturing and exploring elements in life (such as hobbies, work, etc) that programs can appreciate.
What age did you start?
24
Thank you for the pancake example!
i got it from the dean of uFlorida actually from when i interviewed there
Would you mind making a video on your stats?
What exactly are you looking for? Also it might not be as relevant now considering i applied back in 2017
I had a 32 MCAT and a 3.8 science GPA , 3.75ish overall if I remember correctly
Super beneficial video! JazakAllah khair👏
Hi! I'm interested in applying md/phd and I'm actually interested in doing research similar to what you're doing. What other schools did you apply to?
I applied all over the country. Do you mean the computational aspect or my actual research focus, which is the blood-brain barrier? Other programs with similar research that I can think of (in the BBB/drug delivery space) would be U wisconsin, U Minnesota, U Florida, Rutgers. Also some of the big name schools (UPenn/MIT). Does that help?

If you don’t mind me asking, what are your plans after graduation? Or what are your plans after residency, do you plan on doing an 80/20 split? Or maybe going to industry? Great video btw, I’m married as well thinking about pursuing a MD-PhD in BME
80 20 split if I can. Residency in neurology or genetics. Not sure yet I haven't done my clinical rotations yet so it's hard to say. Thank you! Hope you found it helpful@
Love to see from you again my man!
Great video, thanks for sharing! I'd love to know how you budget and plan for traveling/weekend trips as a student. Can you do a video on that?
Sure thing! I was looking for video ideas and this is super helpful!
Very cool explanation! I'm currently using notion, but the free plan does not allow me to download my labbook as a PDF, which really annoys me, so I'm considering switching to Benchling. Thanks for showing us how you use it!
Yeah I was giong to use notion first but that was a problem for me as well. Benchling you can download your notes as a pdf although it's probably not the best format
@@worldwildmed I only really want it in pdf so i can give a "printable" version to my supervisor, so it works for me! Although I'm still "considering" (aka i haven't had time to decide/switch to another ELN rip)
Please, could you tell me if your degree was Computer Science BS or BA? To double major such different requirements, I am wondering if you chose the BA route instead of BS? I know both are great paths and a great number of industries couldn’t care less for which one a candidate has if they are well versed with full-ended knowledge, but I’ve seen a lot of posts about STEM industries prefering a BS for their positions. My son was accepted in direct admit Engineering CS BS programs, but as he is in the pre-med track also (including BSMD offers), those programs are encouraging him to change his degree to CS BA because “it would be nearly impossible to finish all requirements in 4 years”. This thinking was not his plan and I was wondering if you could share more information about your path here. Thanks in advance!
Hi sorry for the late response. I think BA is probably better if it gives you more flexibility. I've worked contract gigs and received recruiting offers based off my degree. No one cares if its a BA or BS as long as you can work done from what I've seen. I don't think anyone will really care about the BA/BS if you have a portfolio or resume that shows you can get it done. and then obviously for medical school, it's better to have the flexibility when possible to avoid GPA killers or balance schedule with easier classes when possible. Hope that helps. just my two cents.
Hey! i find your channel really helpful. If you have time could you make a video on how you transitioned into medschool from undergrad? if you took any gap years or worked with your cs degree for some time before applying to med school?
Yep i can do that
Is this for US? Thank you very much!
yes i am located in the US
